ASBO for Thief

In the last newsletter sent out
residents were informed of a
drastic rise in the amount of
pedal cycles stolen in the
Cheadle area since March. Of
the numerous thefts one male
was identified as being the main
culprit. This led to his arrest and
subsequently the male involved
(pictured) was given a criminal
ASBO. The conditions of this
ASBO stipulate that the male is
not permitted to be in
possession of a pedal cycle and
that he can’t enter the area Wimslow Road. If this male is

Safer Plate Vehicle Crime

Scheme
Officers from the West
Neighbourhood Policing Team
have been involved in the ‘safer
plate scheme’, which has
currently taken place at
Sainsbury’s in Heald Green. The
scheme involves switching the
phillips head screws used on
most registration plates with a
flat head screw that can only be
screwed one way. This scheme
is being utilised across Stockport
in order to reduce theft of
registration plates. If you are
interested then please look out
for future dates and times in the
Cheadle and Heald Green areas.
There has been a significant
reduction in the number of vehicle
crime reports in the Cheadle area
Operation Gotham
Update
since the high number of incidents
in June and July. Contributing
factors to this reduction have been
the arrest and conviction of a prolific
offender, target-hardening

and high visible patrols in vulnerable
areas. Whenever leaving your
vehicle make sure you have locked
it and left no valuables on display. If
you have no valuables in your
vehicle then you can leave your
glove compartment open to show

Oak Road
Update
In the last couple of months there
has been issues on Oak Road
regarding older youths harassing
and intimidating residents. As a
result of this one youth has been
arrested and given conditions to not
enter Oak Road. Due to this, other
members of this group have taken it
upon themselves to cause problems
on the road. These individuals are
known to Cheadle officers and will
be dealt with in the near future. If
you have problems yourself in the
area or witness anything untoward
on Oak Road then contact us on
872 5050 so we can take action
against these youths.
Quad Bikes,
Mini Moto’s and
Off-Road Bikes
Operation Gotham
commenced on Monday 11th
October 2010. The operation
is based around Burglary and
with the onset of Dark Nights
this has historically coincided
with an increase in the
number of burglary victims
hence why this operation has
been implemented. The
Stockport West has suffered
an average of 151 counts of
Burglary between Oct-Dec
2007-2009 with the peak time
identified as 18:00hrs to
21:00hrs. There is also a
spike around 15:00hrs during
the time parents are
collecting their children from
school. Potential streets and
roads identified by previous
years data have had
Operation Treacle
Operation Treacle was again run
this year over the period of
Halloween and bonfire night to
tackle the expected rise in calls
related to youths with fireworks.
The operation, which is run
every year, is a partnership
based approach targeting anti-
social behaviour, criminal
damage and harm reduction
during the period. I am pleased
to inform you that there were
very few firework incidents in the
Cheadle area over the period,
with Halloween being busier than
bonfire night. Any firework issues
then please make the West NPT
aware by ringing the 872 5050
number.

over the last couple of months.
There have been numerous
reports especially around the
Hilda Ave, Brookfield Road,
Whitegates Road and Bruntwood
Park areas. We urge residents to
call us, on the number on page
4, whenever any of these
vehicles are been driven around
the area causing annoyance or
not being used in the proper
manner. We would also
gratefully appreciate any
potential names of drivers,
addresses and vehicle
registration marks if applicable.
These vehicles in question can
be seized and destroyed by
ourselves, which is what
happened early this year in
Adswood.
Police Surgeries
Police surgeries are held so
that local residents can bring
their problems and local
issues to local officers. This
allows residents to meet a
local officer for the area and
have a face-to-face meeting.
Surgeries will soon take
place in the new Co-op in
Cheadle with dates TBA.
