MEDICAL CARD SCHEME
Michael Ahern T.D. welcomes the Government decision to set a
new income threshold for medical cards in respect of persons aged
70 and over. These thresholds mean that a couple with a gross
weekly income of 73,000 per annum that is 1,400 a week or a
single person in receipt of 36,500 per annum or 700 a week will
continue to have a full medical card.
In addition savings of up to 72,000 for a couple and 36,000 for
a single person are not counted in assessing means.
It is important to note also that in addition those with incomes
above the threshold experiencing difficulty in meeting their med-
ical needs will be eligible to apply for a medical card under the
HSE discretionary Medical Card Scheme.
The HSE will write to all medical card holders aged 70 and over,
informing them of the new arrangements. Only people who have
an income above the limits will be asked to reply to the HSE, that
means that existing card holders will not have to undergo a means
test unless their income is above the limits and they want to apply
under the discretionary Medical Card Scheme.
For someone who will turn 70 after 1st January 2009 the procedure
is that they will have to apply for the card in the normal way and
will get a medical card if their income is below the 700 (single)
1,400 (couple) threshold.
Where one member of the couple is aged 70 and the other member
is under 70 both qualify for a medical card if their income is below
the 1,400 a week threshold.
Deputy Ahern welcomed the speedy response of the Government
to the concerns expressed at Fianna Fail Parliamentary Party level
and from the public throughout the Country.

CLUB AGM.
The club will hold its AGM on Wednesday November the 5th at
the hall of the holy family church at 8.00pm.
All members are asked to attend and bring along their licence
application form along with 50 euro to cover their licence and club

Any new members either as active cyclists or as volunteers at club

The members of Inch For ige Club will host a community event
on Thursday 16th October 2008 in the Inch community Hall to
raise awareness of their fundraising drive for street children of
Calcutta. The Purpose of the event is to bolster community sup-
port for their final big fundraiser - a
race night on the 14th November. The
club have 10 organisations to sponsor
10 races. This will cover the cost of
running the event and allow the mem-
bers maximum potential to reach
their target of 45,000
The members of Inch For ige Club
have been engaged in a number of
initiatives to raise funds to travel to
Calcutta and work with young people
in cooperation with the Hope
Inch For ige Club Caroline Lucey
Foundation. The group organised and Robert Coleman, PRO
bag packing, a BBQ, a Christmas
swim, a fashion show, a chocolate sale, a table quiz and a disco.
For ige District Council in (area) Cork also donated the proceeds
from their drama week. In total the group have raised over
20,000 to date.
Inch For ige Club need to raise a further 25,000 in order to send
12 members to Calcutta to work with communities in areas such
as art, music, sport and most importantly bear witness to the help
Hope provides on the ground with the street children.
Community members can get involved by attending the event on
the 14th November by purchasing standard race entry tickets from
For ige members. These will be charged at slightly above adult
entry price at 10 per head. If anyone can assist in bulk buying
tickets for a social night with colleagues, friends or family this
would greatly assist For ige.
Local businesses and organisations can purchase adverts in a
booklet accompanying the race card on the night. These will be
presented to Race Goers on the 14th as they enter the track.
One of the 10 Races will include a special bumper draw for a huge
Prize. Tickets can be purchased only for this race. There will be
720 tickets available for this and one ticket will take the huge
prize. The members of Inch For ige Club will officially unveil the
race night and speak to anyone interested in sponsoring a race or
attending the event. Representatives from the Hope Foundation
and Eimear Foley from For ige, National Youth Development
Organisation will be at the event to answer any questions about the
initiative.
Also showing their support will be Joe Deane and Record break-
ing Cork Ladies All Ireland Football Champions.

Clashmore ACT
Clashmore branch of Aid Cancer Treatment are holding their 21st
annual Church Gate Collection in Dungarvan town, Friary, St.
Marys, Abbeyside, Ballinroad, Garranbane on week / end 8th - 9th
November.
Proceeds go towards Cork University Hospital, this year we also
donated 10,000 to the South East Radiotherapy Trust (SERT)
towards funding transport for patients travelling from Dungarvan
and all the West Waterford area for radiotherapy in Cork.
All Collectors give their time voluntarily.
Death of Neilie Guiry
With deep sadness we received news of the death in Florida USA
during the past week of Neilie Guiry. A native of Ardsallagh
Clashmore like so many of his generation Neilie emigrated at a
young age and lived the greater part of his long life in New York
before moving to Florida where he spent the final years of his life.
Predeceased by his sister Rita Keogh Shanacoole just a few
months ago, Neilie is survived by his wife Mary, son Michael his
sisters Bree Fenton Youghal and Christina O Connor Limerick his
brother Michael Florida, his nieces nephews cousins including
Gracie Cunningham all his relatives and friends.
Family and friends have travelled to New York for Neilie’s funer-
al, this past weekend. Ar dheis de go raibh a hanam.
Rings Singles Tournament
All "Ring players" will welcome news of a Singles tournament
which will commence shortly at the Rising Sun Clashmore .The
tournament will run right through to Christmas, will have a cash
prizes for 1st , 2nd and 3rd winners will share the spoils.

The season celebration of mass in homes throughout the parish,
the Autumn Stations has commences here in the parish of
Clashmore and Piltown. This is a wonderful custom and by host-
ing the stations in your home you are helping keep this tradition

stations this autumn or you are interest in hosting them in your
home for the first time please contact our parish priest Fr O

Cash prizes to be won in our Table Quiz
Clashmore parents association will host a fundraising Table Quiz
at the Decies Bar Clashmore on Friday November 7th, we are
looking for tables of teams of four to take part and play for prizes
of 1st 100 2nd 60 and 3rd 40.
Teams taking part will register at 8.00pm and the quiz will com-
mence at 8.30pm we hope every all families and local organisa-
tions will support us. All proceeds go towards Clashmore School
Building Project and we would really appreciated your support!
Season ends with a blitz
The season came to an end for all our young players Clashmore -
Kinsalebeg Ladies football players last week with a blitz in the
field for under 8’s and under 10’s. Over 30 young players took part
and we concluded with the medal presentation. Our thanks to
Declan Prendergast who came along to present the players with
their medals and each player also received crisps and Capri sun
which were very kindly sponsored by Coonans Quick Pick.
We have come along way this year, and all our players made
steady progress right throughout the season, we participated in
blitz in Dungarvan Ardmore, and Rathgormac. A special thanks to
our Trainers Yvonne, Brid, Helena, Margaret and Ciara who made
it all possible. Well done all and see you all back here again in the
spring

Death of Sean Hennessy
With deep sadness we write of the death Sean Hennessy Ardmore,
Sean died peacefully at Waterford Regional Hospital on Friday
October 17th. Reposing at Egan’s funeral home Youghal Sean’s
removal took place to St. Declan Church Ardmore on Sunday
evening and following requiem mass on Monday Sean was laid to
rest in Holy Cross Cemetery Monea.
Sean is survived by his family Mary, Peggy Bridget Joan Kay
Geraldine Richard Michael John Thomas Pat and Declan and a
wide circle of relatives and friends to whom we extend our deep-
est sympathy May he rest in peace.
Clashmore/Kinsalebeg Juvenile GAA
Under 11 Football
We played De La Salle in the QuarterFinal on Sunday Oct 19th.
This was a close, tough, exciting match and we were unfortunate
to be down by two points at the final whistle.
Indoors Hurling
Its that time of year again when all outside games are almost fin-
ished and our indoor hurling begins this coming week on
Thursday and Friday. Beginners started last week on Friday
evening and it was great to see the large number of players inter-
ested in playing. Any parent interested in helping in this activity
should contact the club officers.
Munster Go Game
This event took place on this past Sunday in terrible weather con-
ditions. All players received a football and t-shirt and were given
refreshments on the day. The club would like to thank the referees
for all their help.

Under 16 Football to do so in the future in Kinsalebeg
We played The Nire on Monday October 20th in Division 2 of the Coonan’s had been a source of great employment for locals, both
Western under 16-football quarterfinal. We were lucky to come on a permanent and part time basis - and they provide a great serv-
out on top in what was a tough match with The Nire fighting until ice in our local community, we would like to thank them for that
the very end. and hope their business will continue to prosper in Kinsalebeg.
Piltown Ambush Commemoration
We are on target for the official unveiling on November 2nd 2008
of our plaque to commemorate the Piltown ambush, which took
place on November 1st 1920.

We are presently fundraising to make up the shortfall from our Last Saturday saw the launch of an exciting new venture for two

YOUGHAL INDOOR BOWLS
The Autumn league came to a successful conclusion on Tuesday
21st October. After six rounds it was very close at the top of the
table. The seventh round produced a clear winner, with team No
5 finishing on 19 points ; the runner up was team No 8 on 17
points.
The winning team was :- Rose Russel O’Donovan, Celia
O’Sullivan, Jean Need and Skip, Michael Shiels.
The second team was :-John McGrath, Carol Mullally, Joe Martin
and Skip, Lily Bulman.
Congratulations to both teams and commiserations to the other six
teams teams who competed in a very sporting manner. Although
the club runs many internal competitions during the year, it is
essentially a social
indoor bowling club and there is still an amount of " fun bowling
" promoted during the year.

Tickets are now on sale -and selling fast- for a fundraising dance
featuring legendary Irish country star Louise Morrissey at the
Walter Raleigh Hotel, Youghal. The concert, on Friday November
7th hopes to raise money towards the missionary work Fr. John
Keane, a Youghal priest working amongst the extreme poor people
in Ecuador.
Fr. Keane arrived in Ecuador in 2006 and works with the St. James
the Apostle Society in the largely urban setting of the Good
Shepherd Parish, La Libertad. "It’s a vast area, where thousand of
people live side by side in cane shacks," he explains. "There is no
work, no money, health facilities and worse of all, nowhere to
grow crops for self-sufficiency "
Against this grinding poverty, the priest has organized several
relief programs. A fortnightly ration distribution scheme attempts

Youghal remain unbeaten in the division 2 AIL league after a
superb performance against Young Munster on Sunday 12th
October. Youghal dictated the game from the off putting crunch-
ing tackles in on the green Young Munster , with game play like
this it wasn t long before ball handling errors were made resulting
in the Youghal ladies gaining possession. Strong running Sarah
Hogan thundered through the centre before making a sleek long
pass to Deirdre Cronin who left Young Munster eating her dust as
she rocketed up the wing placing the ball in the corner leaving
Youghal 5 points clear.
Youghals confidence grew and with the support of a home crowd
the ladies dominated in the back line and with in sync playing
from deadly duo Tamar Jaywardene and Sarah (the hulk) Hogan
Young Munsters backline were drawn inwards giving Deirdre
Cronin space to do her damage, Kellie Faul went on to convert this
try bringing the score to 12-0 and the Youghal ladies hadn t even
got their second wind!

confident backs drop kicked it in the direction of forward Karen
O Mahoney whos hands held it firmly , with strong running up the
centre and diversion of tackles followed by fast and efficient ruck-
ing from Una Fitgerald who came on for the injured Catherine
Mason . Jennifer Barry knew the backs were eager and didn t hes-
itate in flying a pass out to Sarah O Shea who made a break out-
running Young Munsters second best backline gaining a well
deserved 5 pointer which was converted by Kellie Faul bringing
Youghals tally to 19-0. Within minutes of this score Youghals
Deirdre Cronin totted another 5 pointer on the board breezing up
the try-line with a lead of 24-0 the home ladies let the improving
Young Munster side gain some ground and with some ignorance
on repeatable knock ons on the referees part Young Munsters pack
bulldozed over for a try a try leaving the score at half time

As there were noticeable sores and pains on Youghals 15 the girls
only want was a win and entering the second half with this frame
of mind, Youghal ladies went in guns blazing. With an improved
aggression from Youghals forwards and crucial tackles made
around the fringes by Ciara O Flaherty and Ger Lynch Young
Munster ladies held off a little letting the eager Karen O Mahoney
win a ball as it came off the oppositions hand speeding towards the
line through a gap in the defence eating yards followed by a
superbly timed pass , unlucky for the ladies though resulted in a
knock on. The scrum awarded was won by Youghals eager pack
letting the back-line work their magic and abracadabra another try
for Deirdre Cronin this was an impressive addition for the woman
of the match on the previous two outings, as Kellie Faul slotted
over another two pointer the lead was stretched to Youghal-31-
Young Munster-5.
Youghals fitness proved to be a lethal weapon in the second half
as Young Munster forwards couldn t contemplate a scrum without
a water break, not even this yawn worthy game plan could scup-
per the Youghal ladies, and throughout the final 15minutes they
ran the feet off the inexperienced Young Munster . Unlucky not to
put a score on the board was Tamar Jaywardene who put in a fierce
performance throughout the 80mins. Running the ball from her
own half the dodging skills from this talented fly half couldn t be
matched, however on retrieval of her shorts heading south her
speed couldn t be maintained and with the Young Munster ladies
in pursuit Ms Jaywardene was denied the opportunity ..this time!
Not content with just one try Sarah O Shea added to the board
with her second score of the game, great support running from the
backs put pressure on the defence, letting her in for gut wrenching
try for the Young Munster side, Kellie Faul toe poking another two
pointer bringing the final score to 38-5.
The black and amber ladies dominating throughout were unlucky
not to add more digits on the board and remaining top position on
the league board they are undoubtedly ones to note.

Youghal - 17pts / Clonakilty 3pts
Our under 20 s got their league campaign off to a winning start
when they hosted West Cork side Clonakilty at Frogmore recent-
ly. Youghal, who fielded a very young XV for this game, found it
very hard to get going in the early stages of the match and found
the new laws at ruck time hard to get on terms with. This enabled
visitors to keep Youghal pinned inside their own half for long peri-
ods. Clonakilty opened their account with a well struck penalty to
make the half time score; Clonakilty - 3pts, Youghal - Nil.
In the second half, the seasiders grew in confidence after some
good running and handling by David Hyde & Jason Lane. Youghal
continued to play some good rugby and after a deft kick ahead by
scrum half Stephen Kelly - Stephen got the touchdown for
Youghal s first try. Hooker Keith McCarthy kicked the extra points
from an acute angle for a well deserved 4pt lead.
Youghal continued to dominate play and it came as no surprise
when flanker Dessie O Brien scored a fine try near the corner
flag. Once again, Keith McCarthy kicked the conversion points to
put Youghal well on top.
With time running out, Keith slotted over a penalty kick to make
the final score 17pts to 3pts in Youghal s favour. Youghal had
some top class performances from David Hyde, Stephen Kelly,
Jason Lane, Daniel Mulcahy & Declan Coughlan which augers
well for their next game against Midleton.
Under 14 League:
Youghal 31pts / Dolphin 17pts
Youghal got their league season off to a good start when they trav-
elled to play city side Dolphin recently. The seasides were quick
to find their feet in this encounter with tries from Killian Ansbro
and Diarmuid O Flaherty, while James Morley scored a hat-trick
of tries. Liam McCarthy was in fine kicking form managing to
convert three tries. Dolphin had three very good tries of their own
but the seasides were good value for their win. Also to catch the
eye for Youghal were Elton Ruxton while James Morley did a lot
of good work around the field for the seasiders.

Community and Sports Hall
Knockanore, Glendine, Killwatermoy (KGK) Community and
Sports Hall is adjacent to Kockanore N.S. Nr Tallow in West
Waterford.
The Hall opened in September of this year and a variety of sport
and community clubs are being set up.
KGK Badminton club has had a period of settling in and a few
minor adjustments have been made to the origional schedule. Club
times are as follows:
Wednesday 8.30-9.30pm Adults all levels of ability
Friday 8-9pm Juniors (10+years) all levels of ability
Saturday 10-11am Juniors (8-10 years) all levels of ability
Club fees are E3 per session or E5 if more than one family mem-
ber
Important notice (please include in editions printing before 31st
October) The special Junior training session that had been sched-
uled for Saturday 1st Novemeber has been postponed. The Club
will be taking a break for the 31st Oct and 1st Nov but will com-
mence as normal the following week.

TWEENIE S CELEBRATE
THEIR 8TH BIRTHDAY
Tweenies celebrated its 8th Birthday on Friday 24th October with
a fancy dress party. The Tweenies playgroup meets each Tuesday
and Friday morning (10-12am) in the Methodist Church Hall in
Youghal and welcomes children up to school age with their par-
ents or guardians for a chance to play and meet with other fami-
lies. Tweenies currently has approximately 50 families registered
and would be delighted to see new members when it returns from

Fixtures fall foul to weather conditions! - October 25th, 2008
All the clubs fixtures have been postponed home and away due to
bad weather conditions making pitches unplayable.
Heartbreak for Youghal Juniors as they crash out of the league
cup at the quarter final stage!!! - October 22nd, 2008

Youghal United 1 - Carrigaline United 3 Ardrath Park Wed 22nd Oct
19:45.
It was a disapointing finish for the lads in the quarter final of the
league cup as they went down 3-1 to a Carrigaline team who play in
a division above them in the premier junior league.
The game was only minutes old when Damien Linehan in the
Youghal goal was called into action to tap over a header from a cor-
ner kick. Minutes later at the other end Tony Dempsey tried his luck
from long range only to see his effort to be picked up by the keeper.
Carrigaline did have the ball in the Youghal net after 10 minutes only
for the referee to blow for offside.
The next 20 mins saw Youghal press on and have a load of long
range chances but none really troubled the Carrigaline keeper. On
the rare occasion of a break away from the visitors they nearly took
the lead , good play down the right wing to the end line and a ball
pulled back across the square found the centre forward whos shot
was just wide.
Youghal finished the half very strong and had a number of good
chances to take the lead. The first falling to Tony Dempsey when
David Kenneally linked up with Anthony Daly who whipped in a
cross only for Tony’s contact to be slight and fell into the keepers
hands. But with the last kick of the half Barry McCarthy unleashed
a bullet from the edge of the box only for it to hammer back off the
upright with everyone beaten including the keeper. Half time 0-0.
Fives minutes into the second half Ian Scott won a free at the edge
of the box , Barry McCarthy stepped up only to fire over the bar.
Carrigaline took the lead on 57 mins when their forward ran the ball
down the right wing and before he knew it he was inside the box and
beat two defenders unchallenged , his effort deflected off a defend-
er and found its way to the back of the net. This rattled Youghal but
to their credit battled on to try and break the away team down. It
eventually came on 75 mins when Ian Scott was upended in the area
when trying to create some space to shoot , the referee pointed to the
spot without hesitation. Again, Barry McCarthy stepped up and shot
low to the right hand corner to level the game.
Both teams going for it now and Carrigaline were unlucky with a
header off a corner was saved by Damien. It seemed to be all the
away team piling on the pressue in the final minutes and they were
awarded when they found the net in the 91st minute. A free crossed
into the box caused all sorts of confusion and again the ball found
the net off a Youghal defender. Youghal pushed one more time but
could not break down the Carrigaline defence. Carrigaline in turn
sealed victory in the 93 minute with a penalty kick after the forward
was fouled in the box.
Youghal can take real heart out of this game remembering they were
playing a team in a division above them. They showed they could
compete with the best of them and lets hope they can take this form
into the league games.
Seniors, Casement Park - October 21st, 2008

Casement Celtic 0 -5 Youghal United
This was another fine win for united who were in the scoring mood
again in this league game against Casement Celtic who never looked
like getting anything from this game. The away team settled into the
game much better and put pressure on the home goal which resulted
in the opener coming from Michael John Hennessy after 15 mins
and this was added to 10 minutes later when Sean kenneally put
united two up. The lads had other chance to increase their lead in the
first half but were out of luck on these occasions. Casement did man-
age to create some moves of their own but never looked like they
would come to anything.
The second half just got better for Youghal as they added three more
goals from Brendan O’Sullivan, Paul Moylan and Michael John
Hennessey, who got his second. A good display from United who
will get a lot of confidence from their last two games as they seem
to be finding the net with ease. Casement struggled in this game and
have done so since the start of the season.
Juniors, Glasheen Park, Sunday October 19th
October 21st, 2008 - Report: Gene Crotty
Glasheen 2- 2 Youghal United
Despite poor weather conditions with heavy wind and rain both
teams have to be given credit for a vey good game. Youghal fell
behind midway through the first half when Glasheen got the opener
after some good play. It did not take long to level the score when
Tony Dempsey was on hand to score and should have given United
the lead two minutes later when through on goal his shot was saved
by the keeper. It was not Dempsey’s day as just on the blow of half
time he had another chance to put united ahead but once again with
only the keeper to beat his shot came off the keeper to safety.
The rain at this stage was not helping either side and in a very even
game it was turned on its head with 15 minutes to go when Glasheen
were awarded a penalty which baffled the united players as to why
it was awarded. The resulting spot kick saw Glasheen go 2 - 1 ahead
but united composed themselves and David kenneally grabbed a
point from the game with a late goal. All the good work could have
been wiped out as Glasheen were unlucky when they had a shot
come back off the post in the last minute. If the lads had taken the
chances which fell to them they would have got all three points but
still will be happy with the one they got.
The juniors are back in action on this coming Wednesday when they
are at home to Carrigaline in the league cup quarter final at Ardrath
park kick off is at 7.45.
U14 Boys National Cup, Saturday October 18th
October 21st, 2008 - Report: Gene Crotty
Passage 2 - 5 Youghal United
United were always in control of this cup tie however they did have
to come from behind after Passage took the lead under 10 minutes.
Conner Coyne had them back in the game five minutes later and just
on the blow for half time David Twomey put them in front. The
away team had much of the second half and were inspired from an
outstanding display from Darren Walsh in midfield which passage
could not cope with. United wrapped up the game with three more
goals in the second half even though passage did get a late goal back.
U16 Boys, Crossbarry, Sunday October 19th
October 21st, 2008 - Report: Gene Crotty
Inishvilla 1 - 2 Youghal United
The boys got their league season off to the best possible start pick-
ing up all three points with a battling display in windy conditions.
United settled well and took an early lead when after seven minutes
a long clearance by keeper David Cashman found Alan keniry who
headed over the keeper. United inspired from this were well on top
for the first fifteen minutes - Villa got back into the game with 20
mins gone from what looked like an offside goal. However, the lads
knuckled done and took the lead again 5 mins later when after a
spectacular shot from the half way line with the wind behind him
Owen Keniry’s shot went over the stranded keeper. Youghal’s keep-
er David Cashman kept the score at 2-1 at the break when he made
a great save.
It was a great team effort but the defense has to take the credit in the
second half as Villa pushed forward and with the wind helping them
they had a lot of the ball but the united defense held firm. Villa
thought they had gotten back into the game when they looked to
have scored but to their dismay the referee gave a goal kick which
even surprised the travelling squad. As the game entered its final
moments Villa once again thought they were back in the game but
an outstanding save from Cashman in the Youghal goal rescued
Youghal again. This result should spur on the lads and give them
confidence as recent results in friendlies have not been good.
