Cheque From Youghal Deep The launch of the Fun Dog Walk at Glenbower Woods Killeagh
Sea Fishing Club was held last week and received a great reception. The Fun Dog
Walk will be in aid of the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind and will
be held on Sept. 13th at 2pm at Glenbower Woods. It will be sure
to be great day out for all the family.

Up-Turned Dingy
Youghal RNLI Lifeboat launched to a report of an up turned dingy
on Tuesday 24th August at 22.52 pm just off Green Hole in
Youghal. The Lifeboat arrived on scene at 22.53. The Youghal
Coastguard unit lit the scene with their search lights from
Lighthouse hill. It was soon established that there no casualties on
board or in the water. They secured a tow at 23.55 pm, brought the
dingy along side the Lifeboat Station where they handed it over to
the Coastguard at 12.06 am. They Lifeboat was rehoused, refu-
elled and ready for service at 12.35 am

August 2009. Eleanor was the first Clerical Officer appointed to
Youghal Community Hospital. She commenced on a part-time

Youghal Town Council has signed a contract Cobh-based
Cornerstone Construction Ltd. to restore the collapsed section of
the town walls near Raheen Park. Town Clerk Liam Ryan says the
work will commence

Betty Hennessy, daughters and grandchildren, was presented with

and took an interest in every child. Any new staff that came to the
school she was always very helpful. She will be missed by the
community and I will miss her very much,” she said.

A Junior Tennis 'End of Summer' Tournament was held on
Saturday 22nd August and the winners of the 10-12 year olds indi-
vidual doubles tournament were Claire Keniry & Holly Twomey.
Alex Ledingham & Muiris de Paor were the winners of the 13+
tournament & second were Aoife McCarthy & Sarah Donoghue.
Great DVDs were given to the prizewinners and everyone enjoyed
drinks & bars. A Mini Tennis 'End of Summer' Fun Hour was also
held on this day and the 6-9 year olds played fun games and every-
one received drinks and bars.
On last Saturday 29th August the joint winners of the 10-12 year
old group were Laura Donoghue & Calvin Leahy and Aoife
McCarthy & Úna Brosnan. Prizes were sweets and chocolate and
drinks & bars were given to everyone. A Mini Fun Hour was also
held last Saturday and the young players enjoyed great games,
drinks and bars.
Junior Tennis Tournaments and Mini Tennis Fun Hours have run
throughout the duration of the summer and all money raised goes
into the Junior Committee's fund for a table tennis unit for the
club. Junior Tennis Tournaments will continue for the forthcoming
months from 10.30-12 for ages 10+ at €2 with prizes,drinks and
bars incl. Mini Tennis Tournaments will also continue for the next
few months from 12.30-1.30 for ages 6-9 at €2 with prizes,drinks
and bars incl. also. Please come along.

Adult Coaching; An adult coaching session with professional
coach, Ger Flynn, begins on Friday 25th September. The session
consists of three lessons, which will take place on three consecu-
tive Fridays: 25th September, 2nd October and 9th October.. Ger
was very popular for coaching in June and we are delighted that
she found time for us in her busy coaching schedule. Coaching
will cater for two levels: beginner/improver and intermediate.
Registration for coaching takes place every Thursday at the tennis
club from 7.30pm-8.30pm. With just over two weeks left to reg-
ister members are urged to do so asap. Non members are also wel-
come to attend this coaching session. Final date for registration is
Thursday 17th September. All participants must be fully paid up

Ladies Tournament; Apologies ladies for the misprint in the last
Youghal News. Friday 18th September is the correct date for the
tournament play-offs, prize-giving ceremony, fun tournament and
social evening; a busy evening for the ladies. There are approxi-
mately 20 ladies taking part in the singles and doubles tourna-
ments, with many taking part in both. Participants were required
to have a minimum of two games played by last Friday. All games
must be played before September 18th. A reminder to those who
have not paid the €5 entry fee per tournament to do so asap please.

at 7.30pm. This is a mixed doubles event and is open to all levels,
members and non members.
Junior Tennis; Junior tennis takes place every Saturday morning
from 10.30am-12pm. This is for 10-18year olds. All are welcome
to attend.

YOUGHAL BOWLING CLUB
Bowling continued on Tuesday last at Arus. With a very good
attendance, the club was delighted to welcome some new mem-
bers and visitors. There was a draw for teams and the competition
was intense. The eventual winners were :- Sheila Kenneally, Carol
Mullally, Rita Ryall and John Fitzgerald. All four members were
bowling excellently and on the day were unbeatable. Next
Tuesday 1st September is the start of the new season. This a very
opportune time for new members to join as the more serious com-
petitions shall not be starting just yet. The first two Tuesdays are
free for potential members. If after, they want to join, tell a com-
mittee member and it will be processed from there. Anybody
coming for the first time is advised to be there at 2pm.
This will allow for a practise mat to be laid out and a competent
club member made available for tuition. All members are advised
that the annual membership of €5 is now due and should be paid
immediately.
KGK COMMUNITY HALL
Time to keep you posted on new and exciting ventures for the
KGK Community Sports Hall. Firstly, we are delighted and very
grateful to the Tallow Credit Union for their sponsorship. There
will be a photo shoot with all committee members on Friday 11th
September when Tallow Credit Union will be presenting the
cheque within the hall. Secondly, we now have a joint venture with
the Shamrocks GAA Club as there will be a percentage of the lotto
going towards the hall. We do hope you will continue to support
this lotto as it is vital income for the running of the club and now
also for the running costs of the hall. Your subscriptions are as
always very much appreciated.
We are now very pleased to inform you that phase 2 of the hall will
be underway within the next few weeks, after a unanimous deci-
sion by committee members to give the go ahead. There will be a
stage, lighting bar with lights, sound system and curtain surround
to help with acoustics all which can be neatly stored away so the
hall can be left as a sports facility. Well done to all involved who
worked very hard to ensure this project would be to a profession-
al standard and realising the huge benefit it will be to our commu-
nity.

Hall Renovation Concludes

Things are looking up in Gortroe as roof repairs and other works
are all but complete at the community hall. Gortroe Hall Ltd, the
company established to satisfy funding acquirement has just
received €49,000 grant aid from South and East Cork Area
Development Ltd (SECAD). The money is the first instalment of
€93,000 allocated by SECAD towards the restortation project.
"Without SECAD we simply could not have repaired the hall. We
are very grateful to them and indeed to all who supported us," says
Gortroe Hall Ltd's chairman Kieran Mariga.
The restoration is the latest chapter in a story of tremendous
endurance and a commitment to a historic structure by a vibrant,
self-assured community. The hall is owned by the Church, and
dates back hundreds of years. It's previous, dilapidated roof was a
galvanise structure apparently constructed from huts dismantled at
Pilmore during the Famine. Incredibly, it remained in fine fettle
until about two years ago when "it began to leak and the hall
became quite damp," explains Kieran.
Church organisations cannot access government funding and so
Gortroe Hall Ltd was formed and acquired the structure on a 35-
year lease from the Church. The 12-member company approached
SECAD with a roof repair problem but negotiations soon revolved

The foundation has raised this vast
sum of money through a number
of events. The Annual 10K road
race and walk, held on the last
Sunday of May, is the primary
fundraising event with over 1,000
participants this year. For the past
two years, races have also been
organised in both New York and Melbourne. The Youghal Tennis
Club has held both Junior and Senior Tournaments and the
Youghal Golf Club organise the Ladies Singles Competition as
their main fundraising event. The Youghal Choral Society have
held Music for a Summer's Evening at St. Mary's Collegiate
Church and Youghal United organised the first Emer Casey
Memorial Tournament this summer. Christmas Carols in aid of the
Foundation took place in the atrium, Matheson Ormsby Prentice
Solicitors Dublin and proceeds from Dublin Solicitors Bar
Association Table Quiz were also dontated to the Foundation.
Emer’s friends and associates have managed a plethora of events
including coffee mornings, cake sales, wedding favours, cycling
events and seasonal fayres. A special mention to our friends in
Enable Ireland who organised a very successful coffee morning
which raised the magnificent total of €1,503. In addition, a very
well supported Puccini Evening has been promoted by Julie Casey
at The Signet Library in Edinburgh for the past three years. The
schools too have played their part in this extraordinary endeavour

activities organised by Pobalscoil na Trionoide and Glanmire
Community College and Ashton Community school organising
cake sales, carol singing and sponsored walks. The foundation is
indeed indebted to all those who have fundraised and to all the
numerous sponsors of events to date.
Upcoming Events
There are quite a number of fundraising events being held in the
final months of 2009, the first of which involves Team Youghal
who plan to compete in the inaugural Race Around Ireland to help
raise the profile of the foundation. This is a 1,350 mile cycle race
beginning on Sept 16th in Navan and covering various routes
throughout Ireland. Youghal features on the route and the race will
finish in Navan on Sunday Sept 20th.
Secondly, Youghal Golf Club will hold their annual Ladies Singles
Tournament on Wednesday Sept 16th with proceeds going to the
Emer Casey Foundation.
Thirdly, on Sunday October 25th, the inaugural London 5k Emer
Casey Foundation Run and Walk is being held in Brockwell Park
with the assistance of Herne Harriers Athletic Club. This will be
an Annual Event and it is hoped that Sonia O'Sullivan will be
available to take part. Towards the end of the year, Christmas
cards will be on sale in aid of the Foundation.
Finally, information evenings are currently being planned to raise
awareness of Ovarian Cancer. These sessions will be addressed by
members of the Discovary Consortium.
Disbursement of Funds
The Emer Casey Foundation currently funds two Post Graduate
researchers. These scientists who are based in Trinity College,
Dublin have joined the Discovary consortium and are researching
two very specific areas of ovarian cancer including early detection
of Ovarian Cancer. Due to the very generous financial support
received over the past three years, the foundation has decided to
fund a third researcher to help in this very important work. To date
€260,000 has been handed over to the Discovary Consortium and
a further €150,000 will be donated in the next 12 months.
A further donation of €25,000 is also being made by the Emer
Casey Foundation towards the purchase of a Solid V3 2nd
Generation Sequencer which the Discovary Consortium plans to
purchase in the coming months. This state of the art technology
will enable the researchers to fast track their data and yield accu-
rate and comprehensive results.
The Emer Casey Foundation has grown from strength to strength
and is constantly reviewing its role in the battle against ovarian
cancer. As the results of the research unfold, the foundation strives
to support its findings and ultimately to prevent the spread of this
horrid disease. The foundation wishes to thank each and every one
of you for your support and generosity without which it would not
be able to function.

PROVISIONAL DRIVERS

Provisional licence holders driving unaccompanied by a fully qualified
driver can expect to be prosecuted in the coming weeks, according to
Youghal gardai. Sergeant Orla Coughlan told listeners to Community
Radio Youghal that young males continue to dominate car accident statis-
tics, adding that the figures would also feature single females. Against that
background, she said, students returning to school would be on provision-
al licences and that the busier roads and shortening days coinciding with
this time of year heralded increased danger on the roads. "We will stop
unaccompanied drivers," she stated
Uninsured:
The sergeant stressed that Provisional drivers must display L' plates and
that an accompanying driver should be qualified by at least two years, be
below the legal alcohol limit and be drug-free. She said unaccompanied
Provisional licence holders are effectively not insured at all as, "it gives
the insurers an opt-out clause in the case of an accident." She also stressed
that "the speed limits are not a target" and that learner drivers should not
aspire to reach them. Again in reference to the impending winter months,
the garda asked that drivers be particularly alert for pedestrians and
cyclists who, in turn, should wear reflective clothing.
Drug driving:
Sergeant Coughlan said that the current increase in random breath testing
will continue for some time yet. Beyond alcohol detection, they are
intended to target criminals generally, she added. The sergeant explained
that while breath tests do not detect drug usage, if a garda suspected a
driver had used drugs he could demand a blood or urine sample. The min-
imum disqualification for drink or drug/driving now is one year, raised
from three months.
Tyres:
The sergeant drew attention the high rate of un-roadworthy tyres being
detected and warned that the winter weather will greatly exacerbate their
danger. Non-display of NCT discs has become increasingly prevalent
also, she said and gardai will impound such cars. "Proof of having applied
for the test should be carried with you," she added. Impounding is also
likely to result where car tax has expired by over two months.
Big increase in shoplifting:
Off the road, the past week had been relatively quiet, Sergeant Coughlan
reported, with a number of drug searches unearthing only a few minor
infringements. However, shoplifting has increased dramatically. She
urged shopkeepers to report suspicious activity and to "follow a customer
round the shop" if concerned enough.
The sergeant said that CCTV is very effective both for detection and
deterrent and urged shopkeepers to install it. "Even the dummy ones are
quite good at dissuading criminals," she added.
Retired gardai
Sergeant Coughlan concluded her report with several notices:

Despite poor weather conditions the third annual Youghal
Medieval brought visitors in their hundreds to Youghal's
Greenpark on Sunday 30th August 2009. Events were planned to
coincide with The Irish Walled Towns Network celebrations of

The 'Medieval Village' played host to performers, guests and fes-
tival goers dressed in Medieval costume who all 'braved the ele-
ments'. Celebrations kicked off at 12.00pm in the 'Medieval
Quarter' with the reknowned 'Freelance Knights of Redemption'
undertaking a full weaponry and fighting display. With archery
display performances and medieval cookery displays proving to

Speaking after the event, Catherine Desmond of the organising
committee spoke of the idea behind the event: "The goal is always
to create something unique - a real 'one-of-a-kind' event with a
very special blend of history, spectacle and fun for all the family.

The 'band stand' at Greenpark featured fine performances from
Comhaltas Youghal before weather conditions forced the perform-
ance of local band 'Rannach' to be cancelled. Community Radio
Youghal was of course also on hand to report on proceedings
throughout the afternoon.

were overcome in a tight semi final contest played at Paddy
Walshe Memorial Park in Castlemartyr. Now the locals will
have to adopt a “wait and see” policy whilst Lisgoold and
Cloyne contest the second semi final next week.

Originally this game was scheduled to be played on Captains Joe Deane, Stephen Dinneen and referee Ger Sweeney

What transpired in that eventual contest at Midleton in mid
May was in total contrast to what had gone before. Erin’s
Own who had recent experience in the county intermediate
grade were swept aside on a 3-10 to 0-3 score line.
Substitute Andy Walshe found the Erin’s Own net just
before half time, to set up a 1-5 to 0-2 lead, but the wind
would be in the faces of the Killeagh team in the second
period. As it emerged the expected rally by the opposition
never materialised as firstly Stephen Murphy and then Mark
Landers found the net to leave the issue conclusive at the
end of the hour.
Then it was to Castlemartyr last week and the 3-4 to 1-9 suc-
cess over Carrigtwohill.

“It was a game that we could very easily have lost. We were
nine points up at one stage and seemed to be coasting home,
but our lads seemed to get tired and Carrig’ roared back into
the match. They had a few chances in the end but missed
them, so we were lucky to survive. As a result afterwards in
the dressing room, we were all conscious that a big step up
is needed to win the final”.
Goals by Sean Long, Stephen Murphy and David Kelleher
were the decisive scores as Glenbower made it into the final
of a competition they have never won in their history.
“It would mean the world to us if we could come through

scored an eye catching 0-19 in beating Bride Rovers first in the Final from all at

6) over Cobh. Both sides then came out on the right side of
their respective tight quarter final encounters. Cloyne beat
Midleton 0-11 to 1-6, Lisgoold who haven’t played in the

1-9 to 0-10. Since then Lisgoold have been very much
focused on the junior ‘A’ hurling championship, where they
reached the semi final before losing a replay to Sarsfield’s.

There was no winner of the lotto. The numbers were 29,33,35. The All the Best in The East Cork Final from all

Congratulations to our Junior A Footballers on reaching the Junior at

A football final. We were probably labelled with the favourites tag
but to be fair to Carrigtohill they really put it up to us and there
was never much to separate the sides during the duration of the
game. But goals win games and we got 3. Midways through the

Heritage Week
This as you know is Heritage Week in County Waterford and a
number of interesting events are taking place throughout the coun-
ty. Mention of the word 'heritage' immediately sends connotations
of historical events and buildings, but there is much more to our
heritage than that. Everything around us, from the various species
of birds and animals, both domestic and wild, flora and fauna, our
traditions, religion, cultures and even family heirlooms etc are all
parts of our heritage. So also are many of our recipes and cooking
habits as is the custom of 'white-washing'.
Some need preserving, some we need to be reminded of and some
we celebrate now and then - The Pattern Festival being a prime
example of rich heritage that many, many generations have given
to our tradition steeped parish.
Ardmore Heritage Day.
The weather played spoilsport in a big way for Ardmore Heritage
day and led to the cancellation of some of the guided walks -
Sunday was hardly a day for The Cliff Walk. However, James
Quain's lecture on Landlordism in Ardmore went ahead in An
Tobar and where a fine crowd attended and were enthralled by the
tales.
Ardmore Whale Watch. The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group
conducted a whale watch at Ram Head on Sunday last as part of
the Waterford Heritage Week. Approximately 50 people attended
the watch over the 3 hour period but nothing was spotted. The
Whale Watch Group have a number of sites around the country
which they monitor on a regular, monthly basis. Fin Whales, the
second biggest animal on the planet, have been the most common
species spotted from Ardmore, with sightings recorded several
times last year, but none so far this year. Porpoises too have been
spotted as have several species of Dolphin. So keep the eyes open
when you're on the The Cliff Walk and if you do spot something,
log on to The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group website.
Local Derby Victory. Ardmore ground out victory in a close and
very sporting Intermediate hurling championship game against
neighbours, Clashmore on Friday last week. Then last Friday we
beat Brickey Rangers to advance to the Western semi-finals.
Despite clocking up 20 points this was not an impressive showing
by our boys and they will have to improve the performance if they
are to advance.
On Saturday at Fraher Field, 5 pm, our Senior Footballers take on
county champions, Nire, in their final qualifier and we need a
draw here to be sure of qualification for the quarter finals,
although a narrow loss and other favourable results could also put
us through.
Wedding Bells.
Congratulations to popular local building contractor, Damien
Lenane and his bride Therese McCarthy who were wed at the
weekend and best wishes to Ardmore player, Paul Gleeson and
Jacqui Ferncombe, who tie the knot in Ardmore on Friday next.
Busy Summer.
Despite all the doom and gloom about the economy and the weath-
er etc. Ardmore still managed to have a pretty good summer.
Overall, the weather was mixed but we certainly got the best of it
and escaped much of the rain. Visitor-wise, the village was
extremely busy, with huge crowds coming every weekend and the
weekdays very busy as well.
This was probably due to a combination of factors; The Cliff
Hotel is certainly a major attraction and the Pattern Festival drew
huge numbers and overall the resort maintains a very high profile
across the entire media, local, national and international profiling
our assets from heritage to holidays, fine food and fair strands,
céad mile fáilte agus ceoil. One must also add the profile our
Intercounty hurlers give Ardmore, as invariably all match com-
mentators mention the 'beautiful sea-side resort'.
Barbeque at Round Tower Hotel. Well done to the Tidy Towns
sub-committee who organised the barbeque at The Round Tower
Hotel on Friday night. It really was a brilliant night with 'Samson'
providing the gig in the garden and entertaining all comers with
music and song, even after dark. Kids had a ball in the late night
bouncing castle and the food served was delicious. A lot of hard
work then by an enterprising crew of chefs, waiters and waitress-
es and a few managers as well! Thomas Healy, Connie and Glynn
Moloney, Gillian Dwyer, Paul Knight and Marion Power were the
main organisers of an event that is sure to be repeated.
Progressive 45. Last week, one of our newest players, Tess
Mansfield, joined up with Pat O'Connor to head the poll and this
week she teamed up with another veteran, Nell Foley, to again
sweep the boards with 9 games. Nora May O'Neill and Ann Baker
kept the women in control with an 8 game second place and John
Keevers and Gerry O'Brien, along with Willie and Brian Keane
shared third spot on 7 games.
Then this week she made it three wins in a row, Tess Mansfield
has swept the boards, this time with Nell Foley as partner again,
they clocked up 9 games to share top spot with Anne McCarthy
and Ann Halley. John Keevers and Gerry O'Brien were in third
spot. The earlier 9 pm start worked well as it gave us time for a
real rubber after the progressive, won again by James Foley,
Thomas Troy and Brian Keane. In hindsight, we'd have been bet-
ter off to go away home for ourselves!
Players are reminded that we will start at the earlier time of 9 pm
from now on.
Breavement.
We extend our sympathy to the Quain family on the death of
Marie Quain, who passed to her eternal reward last week. Marie,
who was one of our oldest citizens, was a wonderful individual
and was much loved by one and all. Ar dheis Dé go raimh sí.
Last week we said farewell to that wonderful 'mother of the
parish', Kitty Veale. Kitty, a native of Millstreet County Cork
came to Ardmore as District Nurse in 1956 and from then until her
retirement served the whole area, Ardmore, Grange, Clashmore,
Kinsalebeg and Aglish. She was held in the highest esteem by
everybody and was present through all the joys and tribulations
with every family. She was as her son Michael so aptly summed
up, nurse, mother, nana, counsellor to everyone. She was also a
great friend to Ardmore GAA Club, whose players she looked
after for years.
Fittingly, present and former staff members of Ardmore Health
Centre formed a Guard of Honour at her funeral and the Ardmore
GAA Club lined both sides of the Main Street and carried her cof-
fin shoulder high through the street.
We offer our sincere sympathy to her family Michael, Seamus,
Harry and Catherine and to their spouses and children. Ar dheis
Dé go raibh sí.
Back to School. It's that time of year again when our young peo-
ple pack away the summer fun and go about their various studies.
This weekend some of our youngsters took a mighty first step to
various universities throughout Ireland and indeed the UK. Many
may never really be resident in Ardmore again.
For some more, it's back to secondary school and a massive step
for those going away to Youghal or Dungarvan for the very first
time to start secondary school. Then there's the small ones who
toddle off to Grange or Ardmore school for the very first time. A
giant step and for some families a giant wrench as its their first
experience of separation. To them all we say best wishes and good
luck.
Macra na Feirme. Best of luck to William Keane, Foxhall, who
is off to Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar to represent Waterford in
The Young Farmer of the Year competition. William and the other
25 competitors, will be grilled on the theories and practicalities of
the whole range of modern farming, in this most prestigious of
events. Of course we hope William goes all the way, but in saying
that, we must be mindful of the fact that no Waterford representa-
tive has ever even reached the last six.
Camper Van Club. Ardmore GAA Club welcomed the Munster
Camper Van Club to it's grounds over the weekend and over 30
families had a most enjoyable weekend at the Club grounds,
where they were based. Group barbeques were the order of the
weekend and , despite heavy rain on Sunday morning, they still
managed the barbeque and outdoor breakfast. The group used the
Clubhouse by night where they had some music and a sing-song.

drama club for young people aged between 4 and 16
years of age.
Classes are held every Friday in the Youghal
Community Centre.

Clashmore/Kinsalebeg Juvenile GAA.
U-12 Football. The lads played Ardmore last Saturday week, in
the Semi Final. This was a great match with all the players and
subs playing their part. We finally overcame Ardmore and won by
six points in the end.
The players looked really well in their new set of jerseys which
were sponsored by Brendan O'Sullivan, Electrician. The club
would like to thank Brendan and Jane for their very kind generos-
ity
U-16 Hurling. Our hurling season ended on a poor note last
Saturday when we were well beaten by St. Pats in the Western
Final in Fraher Field.
While playing without a full panel due to holidays, and while we
had players injured, who must be complimented for still playing,
we held St. Pats well in the first half and were two points up at half
time.However, two unfortunate goals in the second half turned the
tide in St. Pats favour and they then went on to add to their score
to win well in the end. Congratulations to St. Pats on winning the
Western and County Finals .
Although we have no silver ware to show for the year, the lads
should be proud of contesting the two finals. This is a great
achievement for such a small club with very few lads in this group
and not many of them up on the age.
Our thanks must go to all the mentors who have given of their time
and have worked very hard with this set of lads during the last six
months.
U-16 Football. The championship is about to start and training
takes place every week from now on.
U-12 Football. The final of the football was played in Fraher Field
last Saturday week . It was a great achievement to reach the final
for our young lads and they put in a great effort throughout the full
match, but unfortunately we lost to a very strong physical Affane
side on the day. Thanks to Timmy O'Keeffe, who despite his busy
schedule, put in a lot of work with this side, as did all the mentors.
Our thanks also must go to all the parents for their support during
the year. Lets hope next year will have a better result.
Many of our players are taking part in different tournaments
presently so good luck to all.
The Tony Forristal Tournament. This is being played in Mt Sion
Waterford , Offaly and Galway are in the same group. Ryan
O'Sullivan and Paul O'Connor are playing in this set of matches.
The Sonny Walsh Tournament. This is being played at the new De
La Salle grounds Limerick, Kilkenny, Clare and Waterford are in
this group. . All matches are of 40 minutes duration. Edmond
O'Halloran is playing in this tournament.
U-15 Tournament. This is scheduled for Cork and Tadgh Burke
and Sean Daly are our representatives here.
U-16 Tournament. Darren Foley plays in the Tipperary Supporters
Club Tournament in Clonmel.
21st Birthday Greetings
This weekend we had three locals celebrating their 21st birthdays
congratulations friends Shannon O Brien and Gretta Fitzgearld
both of whom celebrated their birthdays with a joint celebration in
Dungarvan on Saturday night. On Saturday night Edmond Og
Ledingham celebrated his 21st birthday at the Decies Bar in
Clashmore with family and friends.
Congratulations and best wishes for a very happy birthday to each
of you and all the best for the future.

Death of John Bradley
News of the unexpected death on Saturday morning last of John
Bradley at his home in Rath Kinsalebeg shocked and saddened the
entire local community. A quite unasuming young man, John 's
death leaves a huge void in the family home and he will be dear-
ly missed by all his family and friends but by none more than his
broken hearted mother Kathleen. While still a child John was pre-
deceased by his dad Dan.
He is sadly mourned by his mother Kathleen his sisters Catherine
Niamh and Sinead, his brother Colm his nephews nieces relatives
and many dear friends and neighbours to all of you we tender our
deepest sympathy.
Reposing at Egan's Funeral Home Youghal John's removal took
place this Monday evening to St Bartholomew's church in
Kinsalebeg and following requiem mass on this Tuesday John will
be laid to rest in North Abbey Cemetery in Youghal. May he rest
in peace.
The voices we loved to listen to are silent
The choirs of angles must have been recruiting recently as two
local gentlemen both of whom were blessed with wonderful voic-
es were taken unexpectedly to their eternal reward, within hours
of each other. On Wednesday July 22nd with great sadness we
received news that Con Ryan of Tallow had died, followed by sad
news next day that Micheal O Neill had died suddenly at his home
in Muckridge Youghal. Both were men of exceptional talent and
throughout their lives performed at various events both locally and
nationally.
Con Ryan the butcher from Tallow was son of the great Tenor
Frank Ryan, Con was never afraid to sing a song or two as he went
about his regular deliveries as the people around Clashmore and
Piltown can fondly recall. Micheal O Neill the fuel merchant from
Youghal was a great supporter of the Voice of Clashmore over the
years and he too is dearly remembered by everyone on this side of
the Blackwater.
Con Ryan is survived by his wife Teresa his sons Paul, Kieran,
Frankie, Con and Aidan his daughters Eileen and Ber and a wide
circle of relatives and friends.
Micheal O Neill is survived by his wife Pat his sons Michael-John,
Aiden, Finbarr, Philip, and Sean his daughters Caroline, Bridget,
Ann and Siobhan and a wide circle of relatives and friends.
To both bereaved families we tender our deepest and heartfelt
sympathy.

Our U11's are having a great run in the Imokilly league they
played 2 games last week resulting in 2 wins for the girls. Great
effort is put in each week by Janette Power and Carmel Dempsey
in helping the girls train for this league. The U 11's train every
Monday & Thursday night @ 7pm
Scores in the Cobh game came from Erin Galvin, Aoife O'Neill,
Catriona O'Keeffe, Ciara Crowley. All the girls played very well.
U11's are in action again Tuesday against Sars and Thursday
against Castlyons.
Our U13's have also been in action over the last week, they played
2 games also, but were unlucky that the scores didn't come their
way. They played Castlelyons and then Sars.

U13 are in action against Carrigtwohill this Thursday. Training
every Monday night @ 6.30 Thank you must go to the U13's train-
er - Kelma McCarthy for all the effort that she has put in with the
girls.
U15's played a great game against Dungorney on Saturday morn-
ing, they had a strong breeze against them in the first half but still
in all put up a great fight against their opponents to come back and
make all the play in the 2nd half, the score ended with Youghal
being narrowly defeated by 4 points.
A huge thanks to Ken Bulman for all his hard work throughout the
year with the girls, training every Wednesday night @ 6.30 pm
All help is greatly appreciated and welcomed form the club when
training the Underage and all support is also welcomed by the girls
when they play their matches.

 Horgan Collection goes on display at Youghal Library
An important archive of historical photographs of Youghal and
surrounding areas has been donated to Cork County Library and
Arts Service and is being made accessible to the public for the first
time in Youghal Library.
This important collection of nearly nine hundred photographs was
made by various members of the Horgan family who for many
years ran a successful photographic business in Youghal and who
also operated one of the cinemas in the town. Reaching back to the
1890's, the Horgan Collection is a unique and invaluable collec-
tion of photographs which records the landscape, streetscape and
social history of Youghal into the twentieth century
Speaking to a very large gathering of people in Youghal Library at
the launch of the collection on Thursday evening, Cork County
Librarian, Ruth Flanagan thanked the members of the Horgan
family for their generosity in making the entire collection avail-
able to the public through the Library Service. She noted that the
Horgan collection is a priceless historical document that depicts
the town of Youghal, the Blackwater river, Ardmore and many
other areas and its importance for its representation of the social
and commercial life in the area, through vivid images of maritime,
agricultural, leisure and tourism activities.
Jim Horgan talked about the beginnings of the Horgan family
involvement in photography and film and showed a series of
images giving an overview of the extent of the collection. Frank
Mills, Liam and Michael Coveney also spoke about the maritime
heritage of Youghal and the Blackwater using photographs from
the collection to illustrate their talks.
In accepting this donation Cork County Council have preserved
and conserved all of the images in the collection. These images
have now been digitally recorded and will in due course be avail-
able for members of the public to view in Youghal Library
The collection is launched as part of National Heritage week cel-
ebrations. During the week a selection of photographic prints will
be on view as well as continuous slideshow of digitised images on
a public access computer.
