Recruitment Guide

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident (PR)

21 Years old and above

Completed National Service (For male applicants)

Minimum 4 GCE 'O' Levels credits* i.e. Grade 6 and above

Must have passed CMFAS module 5 and 9 (or its equivalents) and Health Insurance

Not an undischarged bankrupt

Medically fit to carry out the duties and responsibilities of a life planner

No adverse records or criminal proceeding been taken or pending etc.

Not involved in any act of dishonesty, moral turpitude (morally wicked) and any acts against the
public interest

Fit and proper to carry out financial advisory services

Exceptions

Candidates with less than 4 GCE 'O' levels

1) Examination must be taken before or during 1 980

2) Obtained qualifications of 2 or 3 GCE 'O' Level credit passes

3) Must pass Basic Competency Examination (BCE) administered by the


Singapore college of Insurance (Qualifying Test is equivalent to the BCE)

Candidates with ITE certificates

1) Only higher Nitec and Master Nitec certificates can be accepted for ITE graduates
ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
(4 GCE O-LEVEL PASSES OR "EQUIVALENT' FOR LIFE INSURANCE ADVISORS)

GCE 'O' Level


1) 4 GCE 'O' level passes (i.e. Grades I to 6) in any 4 subjects

2) Preceding 0-level qualifications:


-School certificate (in English, Malay or Chinese medium) with
credit passes (i.e. Grades I to 6) in any 4 subjects)

3) Candidate with less than 4 CCE 'O Level passes:


- Candidate must have sat for his GCE 'O' level examination
before and during the year 1 980
- Obtained qualifications of 2 or 3 GCE 'O' Level credit passes
- Candidate must pass the Basic Competency Examination
QT - Qualifying Test is equivalent to the BCE

Diplomas Not Accepted by LIA


i) Diplomas from Singapore Institute of Management
ii) Diploma5 from MDIS
iii) Diplomas from National Productivity Board (NPB) / PSB

Local ITE Certificates


1) Higher Nitec ( used to be Industrial Technician Certificate - ITC )
2) Master Nitec
Foreign Issued qualifications
1. All foreign diplomas / Degrees are subjected to insurer's approval.
Foreign degree5 are approved (Candidates from China are required to provide
translated transcripts and certificates certified by Singapore Supreme Court )
Degrees from Foreign Universities (previously all to be sent to LIA for evaluation but
generally accepted)

2. 4 'O' Level passes (i.e. Grades I to 6) in any 4 subjects, or preceding qualifications,


from:
a) Malaysia (SPM MCE)
b) Hong Kong (Certificate of Education, *School Certificate with Grades A, B or C)
(*NOT accepted: English Syllabus A)

c) United Kingdom:
E.g.: Associated Examining Board CCE
Univer5ity Of London GCE (with Grades A, B or C)

3. Full A-level Certificate with following criteria


i) 2 A-level passes (Grades A to E) and
ii) 2 A0-level passes (Grades I to 6)

4. Or preceding qualifications from:


i) Malaysia (STPM, HSC, with Grade R as equivalent to 0-Ievel pass)
ii) Hong Kong (HK GCE A-level, HK University GCE A-level)
iii) United Kingdom (British GCE A-level (E.g. Associated Examining Board GCE,
University of London GCE with grades A, B or C)
iv) Sikkim Manipal Univer5lty
v) Chinese Middle 3 certificate with passes in any 4 subjects
(* For certificates from China, the candidate need to provide transcripts and
translated copy of the certificate from the Supreme Court)
vi) Canadian Diploma (Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) grade 12/13)

5. London Chamber Of Commerce & Industry certificate (LCCI) with credit passes in
any 4 subjects at Third or Higher level

NOTE
i. The 4 pas5es may be obtained through more than 1 5itting of the examination

ii. The 4 passes mav compri5e subject5 from more than one type of approved
qualification (e.g. I LCCI Third-level pass in PR, 2 GCE O Level passes and I GCE A-
level pass)
iii. A GCE O-Level pass and a GCE A-level pa5s in the same subject are considered as 2
subjects passed

Actuarial
1) Institute of Actuaries, UK (Associate/Fellow)
2) Faculty of Actuaries, Scotland (Associate/Fellow)
3) Society Of Actuaries, US (Associate/Fellow)
4) Institute of Actuaries, Australia (Associate/Fellow)

Insurance
1) Chartered Insurance Institute, UK (Associate/Fe]low)
2) Australian & NZ Institute of Insurance and Finance (Senior Associate/Fellow)
3) Fellow Of Life Management Institute, US

Financial Advising
1) Chartered Life Underwriter, US or Singapore
2) Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC), US or Singapore
3) Certified Financial Planner, US or Singapore

ACADEMIC CERTIFICATES THAT WERE NOT ACCEPTED BY LIA


1) Qualifications from ITE, VITB, NPB, PSB. SIM, MDIS. SHATEC

2) Qualifications from commercial schools like:


- Thames
- Informatics
- Asia Pacific Management Institute
- Thames Management Centre
- Lasalle
- MIS Diploma in Sales & Marketing
- Diploma in Administrative Mgt (Awarded by Thames Mgt Centre,
Validated by University Of Oxford)
- Qualifications from trade associations / industry related training
institutes (e.g. Singapore Institute of Purchasing & Materials
Management, Singapore Productivity Association)
- Diploma in Industrial Relations from SILS
