Tech Port Helps Develop Restricted Access to

Staff Writer
Entrepreneurs working out of the Tech Port
business incubator at the St. Mary’s County Re-
gional Airport have developed a reusable face-
mask frame that needs only a pair of rubber bands
to be affixed to the user’s face.
The project would allow the reuse of protective
face gear that is now in short supply due to the in-
crease in COVID-19 cases and the fact that most
of the production capacity for such gear is located
in China. Alec Dobbins demonstrates a prototype facemask

Senior Call Check Program

The St. Mary’s County Department of Aging & Human Services is proud to sup-
port a program through the Maryland Department of Aging (MDoA) called Mary-
land Senior Call Check. Maryland is the first state in the country to start a FREE,
opt-in, telephonic service to check on Maryland’s older residents across the state.
This program is for seniors living alone to check on them daily. This free service
will place an automated daily call to the participant at a regularly scheduled time. If
the call is not picked up after three attempts, the service will call an alternate person
on your behalf to check on you. If your alternate does not pick up or you do not have
an alternate, the local authorities will be contacted to perform a wellness check.
MDoA recommends all seniors use the program as a resource during the CO-
VID-19 global pandemic. Senior Call Check phone lines are open Monday-Friday
from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
• The verification and enrollment process can be completed within 24 hours Mon-
daySaturday. • MDoA will provide messages and updates regarding the COVID-19
outbreak.
For more information, call 1-866-50-CHECK (1-866-502-0560) or register online
at www.aging.maryland.gov.
