State of Oklahoma

Dear Friends,
Oklahoma has always had a rich history in aviation, and so it’s no surprise that the state ranks
4th in the country in the number of airports per capita. To help you plan your trip to or around Oklahoma,
the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission has produced this Oklahoma Airport Directory.
Inside you will find helpful information about Oklahoma’s public-use airports—information
that will ensure your safety and enhance your travel plans around the state.
You cannot overstate the importance of the aerospace industry to Oklahoma. Oklahoma
has 114 public-use airports. The more than 500 aerospace companies that call our state home create
approximately 150,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs—one-tenth of the Oklahoma workforce. Those
aerospace companies have a $5 billion payroll with an average salary of $55,000, which is well above the
Oklahoma average.
From the beginning, Oklahoma’s history has been entwined with aviation. Clyde Cessna built
his first airplane here in 1910. Paul and Tom Braniff started Braniff Airlines in Oklahoma in the 1920s.
Meanwhile, Charles Lindbergh established Waynoka, Oklahoma, as a major stop in the Transcontinental
Air Transport route, which was the predecessor to Trans World Airlines. Wiley Post, one of Oklahoma’s
most celebrated native sons, set the record for around-the-world flight in 1931.
I know this book will be an invaluable tool as you fly the blue Oklahoma skies. Fly safely, and
enjoy your time in Oklahoma!
Sincerely,
Brad Henry

OKLAHOMA AERONAUTICS COMMISSION
The Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission prepared this airport directory to provide you with
information about our public-use airports in the state. We hope this publication will make flying safer for
you in Oklahoma as well as more enjoyable.
Many staff hours are invested in the directory to ensure its completeness and accuracy;
however, constantly changing conditions require frequent updating and additions, which may be obtained
by visiting our Web site at www.aeronautics.ok.gov.
Due to these changing airport conditions, the Commission assumes no responsibility for any
action taken by a pilot on the basis of information contained in this directory. Some of the landing areas
are highlighted for clarification purposes and should not be interpreted as hard-surface runways. Pilots are
reminded that it is their responsibility to check all sources for current information. This includes the FAA
Notices to Airmen, FAA Airman’s Information Manual, and FAA Airport/Facility Directory.
The Commission welcomes any suggestions or concerns about information contained in the
directory. Please contact us using our general e-mail address, oac@oac.state.ok.us, or telephone, 406-604-
6900.
I want to especially encourage you to visit Oklahoma. We have many recreational areas and
resorts that are easily accessible by plane; a rich history full of aviation pioneers such as Wiley Post, Paul
and Tom Braniff, and Clyde Cessna, as well as a thriving aerospace industry with many opportunities for
economic development and employment.
