How To: Set Up a Zebra Printer

Purpose: Explains how to set up a Zebra printer, configure the static IP address and make the
printer available to an end user.

Systems Used: Zebra Printers

Overview: When setting up a Zebra Printer, make sure to have a USB connection available
between the printer and your PC as well as having an Ethernet connection to your company’s
network.
In the configuration process, Zebra Partners recommend that you use a static IP address and not the
DHCP out of the box configuration.
NOTE: You will need to register as a customer on Zebra’s website to download utilities and update
software.

REGISTER AS A CUSTOMER ON ZEBRA’S WEBSITE


Step Action

1. Log into the Zebra website, https://www.zebra.com/us/en.html, and click the down arrow next to
Login.

If this is your first


time on the site,
click Register.

NOTE: If you already have a Zebra account, skip to Step 10.

2. Enter a Username and Password and click Register.

NOTE: Your username will be your email address.

3. Enter your email address in


both fields then click
Submit.

4. Click OK in the notification


box then go to your Inbox to
get the confirmation email
from Zebra.

5. Click on the link in the email to verify that you provided a valid address.

6. Click Next.

7. Complete all required fields


on the registration form then
click Submit at the bottom of
the page.

8. Select the radio button for I


need to download files
related to printers then click
Submit.

9. Click OK.

You will receive a confirmation


email that you can now use
the username and password
you just created to download
utilities and updates.
DOWNLOAD PRINTER DRIVERS
10. Log back into Zebra’s website and enter your
Username and Password.

Click Sign In.

11. Click the Support & Downloads link.

12. Click the link for Printers.

13. Scroll down the page to locate and


click the hyperlink for your specific
printer model.

14. Click the link for


Drivers.
15. Click the Download link for
the Zebra Setup Utilities
that corresponds to your
operating system.

16. Click Accept And Begin Download Now.

17. Select Save as… to designate where the file will be saved.

18. Navigate to where you saved the


file.

Double click the file name.

19. Click Run.


20. Click Next.

21. Check the I accept the terms…


box then click Next.

22. Click Next.

23. Click Next.


24. Click Next.

25. Click the I have read the


information above checkbox.

Click Next.

26. Click the Run Zebra Setup Utilities now checkbox.

Click Finish.

27. In the Wizard box, select the USB radio


button.

Click Next.
28. Connect the printer to your PC using a USB connection.

Connect the printer using an Ethernet cable to your network.

Turn the printer on.

29. Once the printer is connected and turned


on, click Finish.

CONFIGURE PRINTER CONNECTIVITY


30. The Zebra Setup Utilities opens.

Highlight the printer you are setting up


then click Configure Printer Connectivity.

31. Click the radio button for the appropriate


Connectivity type.

Click Next.
32. Click the radio button for Internal Print Server.

Click Next.

33. Click the Static radio button.

Enter a Hostname (optional).

Enter the IP Settings for the printer.

NOTE: Your Network Administrator can provide


this information. Make a note of these settings
because you may need them when installing the
printer locally on your PC.

Click Next.

34. Click Next.


35. Click the Printer radio button.

Click Finish.

Wait a few seconds then turn off the printer.

Turn the printer back on. Once it fully reboots,


the printer will be configured with a static IP
address (vs. a dynamic IP address).

SET UP THE PRINTER LOCALLY ON YOUR PC


36. If the Windows updates on your PC are
the latest, the printer will install
automatically once connected to your
PC. You can then skip to Step 44.

If you do not see the dialog box to the


right, then you will need to manually
set up the printer locally.

37. Click the Windows icon on the lower left corner of your
screen.

Click Devices and Printers.


38. Click Add a printer.

39. Click Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth


printer.

40. Click The printer that I want isn’t listed.


41. Click the Add a printer using a
TCP/IP address or hostname radio
button.

Click Next.

42. Enter the Hostname or IP address used


during the printer setup, then click Next.

43. Scroll down the list of


Manufacturers on the left side of
the dialog box and highlight
ZDesigner.

If the driver options do not display


on the right side of the screen, click
Windows Update.

Otherwise, select the driver


corresponding to the printer model.

Click Next, and continue to click


Next through the remaining setup
screens.

The printer will be available for you to use once you click Finish.
ADJUST MEDIA SIZE AND SETTINGS
44. Click the Windows icon in the botton left corner of the screen and click Devices and Printers (see
Step 1).
45. Highlight the printer you just
installed.

46. Right click on the printer and select Printer


Properties.

47. Click Preferences….


48. Enter the Width and Height of your media stock.

Click OK.

49. Click the Advanced Setup tab.

Click the Use printer settings checkbox.

Click Apply.

Click OK.

50. Send a test document to the printer to ensure it is printing properly.
