Morning Star Fishermen Home Aquaponics Systems

Have you ever wished that you could be sure about the quality and
freshness of the food that you bring home from the supermarket? Do
you ever wonder how safe it is for your family? Why not start producing
some of your own food right at home?

Using an easy to operate aquaponics system, you can grow your own
nutritious vegetables and fish right in your backyard, balcony or patio.
There is no soil or dirt to mess with, no complicated filtering systems to
clean or look after, and no watering or fertilizing of garden plants. You
just feed your fish and watch them and your plants grow in a naturally
balanced, efficient and beautiful system.

The fish fertilize the water for the plants, and the plants grow right in the
water purifying the water for your fish - the natural way.

If you want to get serious about home food production, or want to start
producing a constant supply of organically grown fish and vegetables as
an innovative business, a school project, or as an outreach for a needy
community, we have a system that is just right for you.

With our efficient, space saving aquaponics systems you can have a
constant supply of fish and vegetables, safe and free of dangerous
pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, and you can harvest them minutes
before you eat them.

Aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture and hydroponics. The

plants are contained in “net pots” suspended by a sheet of styrofoam
floating on the surface of the fish culture water. The plants extract
nutrients from the fish culture water as it is circulated from the fish tank
through the plant beds.

Herbs, lettuce, salad greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and many other farm
vegetables and flowers and ornamentals can be grown in our
aquaponics systems. Plants grow faster and produce much heavier
cropping compared to inorganic hydroponics or conventional garden
methods.
THE FISH OF CHOICE

Tilapia, a fast growing fish that produces delicious white meat, is the fish
of choice. These are a hardy, disease resistant, warm-water fish that
have become a very popular menu item in restaurants and household
around the world.

Reaching 1 to 1-1/2 pounds by 9 to 18 months, these fish are much

better at converting feed into body mass than chickens, cows and any
other farm animal. In addition, Tilapia protein is highly digestible and
more readily broken down and absorbed than the protein in red meats
and poultry. Their meat contains all essential free fatty acids, and all
nine essential amino acids; therefore, it is an excellent choice for
meeting our daily protein needs.

Tilapia eat readily available pelleted commercial feed, as well as algae,

duckweed and some of the excess plant cuttings from the hydroponic
side of the operation. They will tolerate low oxygen and poor water
conditions that would kill most other fish, and still taste great.

Our systems are rated for anywhere from 12 to 50 fish, and 16

to 80 plants or more.
The capacity of each of these systems can be easily modified
by changing the size of the tanks and other components, to
meet you specific requirements.
The Basic Unit, the Home Unit and Backyard systems
presented below have a black polyethylene fish tank with no
window. Fish can only be viewed from above. At your
request, this tank can be exchanged with a 160 gal blue tank
with a viewing window. Add $350.00 to the price of the system.
Our aquaponics systems come complete with instructions on
how to set it up, net pots and planting material and a copy of
our Fundamentals of Raising Tilapia with Aquaponics manual.
Shipping and crating charges are not included in the price.
