ETISALAT, As Project Engineer for Network Projects, responsible for managing


Dubai Region, construction and maintenance of Outside Plants of Dubai
UAE Branch, carried out by Contractors and Departmental
Labourers, assisted by a team of Engineers, Assistant
21 April 1998 till Engineers and Chief Supervisors (all graduate engineers).
Date Managed and advised on various contractual matters like
bid evaluation, contractor/ supplier selection, termination
of contracts and transition of works-in-progress, etc.
Achievements

♦ Led the Civil Works team through process optimization before and after ISO
certification and through major organizational restructuring with an aim to achieve
improved efficiency, reduced costs and implementation of project management culture.
♦ Led the team through preparing project reports, obtaining management approval,
implementing in the field and analysing the results thereof, a new more efficient and
effective process of provision of service to customer premises that resulted in reducing
line plant waiters to a large extent.
♦ Managed development of monitoring mechanisms of day-to-day progress and handling
of allocated works by means of Shared Databases. This helped moving towards a
paperless environment between offices located at different parts of the city, for record
keeping, analyzing workloads and redistributing accordingly, analyzing work
performance and efficiency of staff, automatic generation of various types of regular
Reports & Forms, etc.
♦ Working in a truly computerized atmosphere, using an Oracle based Database & a web-
based Document Management System for issue & authorization of estimates & BOQs,

booking of staff man-hours, entering of actual field measurements of completed works,
generation of measurement diaries for billing purposes, report on variations and related
claims, issue, return and reconciliation of materials, certifying measurements and
Contractors’ payments, etc.
♦ Developed shared MS Access Databses for the above purposes.
♦ Attained knowledge and applied the concept of Total Quality Management in the
section, improving the functioning as well as the quality orientation within the office and
on the work-sites.
♦ Guided staff through the succesful ISO Certification of the Access Network department
of Etisalat. Developed KPIs for the section, and the measuring tools for the dual purpose
of ISO Certification and for regular performance evaluation and proper management of
incentives-rewards system.
♦ Used analytical abilities and QA/QC expertise to evaluate contractors, project works,
engineering materials purchased by Etisalat, etc.
♦ Helped form Quality circles, and assisted them in learning the tools for successful
problem identification, analysis, exploring of alternatives, brainstorming and arriving at
feasible solutions.
♦ Used statistical anlysis tools to find possible correlation between the pricing quoted by
Etisalat contractors and specification changes.
♦ Managed training of staff in the concepts of Project Management and related QA/QC
and Safety aspects.
♦ Managed Planning and execution of larger projects using Microsoft project, and
monitored closely, deployment of manpower, machines & materials by the contractor to
ensure their timely completion.

 Water-proofing works for elevated & Overhead water tanks, concrete roofs, bathrooms
& other wet areas, basements & other underground structures, manholes, etc.
 Thermal insulation of metallic and concrete roofs.
 Installation of structural steel components, prefabricated wall panels, sandwiched roof
panels, GRC wall panels, Aluminium Curtain Walls,etc.
 All Electrical & Airconditioning works, Public Address Systems, CATV, Fire fighting

proper follow-up to ascertain their compliance, within their contractual obligations.
♦ Managed QA/AC aspects of all the works listed above, including site inspections,
sampling of materials for field testing as well as laboratory testing to ensure compliance
with local and international standards.
♦ Managed preparing & approval of work schedules and change-over activities, keeping
and circulation of all regular reports on the day-to-day activities, etc.
♦ Managed approval of submittals related to materials, suppliers, sub-contractors, mix-
design, shop drawings, method statements, etc.
♦ Managed checking of contractor’s monthly bills as per actual work on the site, as-built
drawings and variations, extension of time and other claims, etc. on completion of
