Raymond sets a world record!

Makes the worlds finest suiting of 11.6 microns

The Raymond Super 240s suit length

Raymond Ltd, the leader in textiles and apparel in India and world’s largest integrated producer
of worsted suiting fabric has once again achieved a rare feat and a historical milestone – the
creation of the world’s finest worsted suiting fabric from the finest wool ever produced in the
world – the Super 240s fabric made of 11.6 micron wool.

This fabric has been crafted out of the finest wool grade available in the world - Super 240s
wool which is a mere 11.6 microns in diameter (a micron is a millionth of a metre) or
approximately one-fifth the diameter of human hair! At 11.6 microns, Super 240s wool is half
that of the standard wool grade for worsted suiting fabric which is 22.5 microns! Super 240s
wool has been created out of the ‘record bale’ of the finest wool in the world, procured by
Raymond in a recent auction beating bidders from the world foremost fashion houses.

With the introduction of Super 240s worsted fabric, Raymond becomes the not only first Indian
textile company to produce a suit length of such fineness but also the worlds first - ahead of
companies from Europe and Japan.

A tradition of excellence

Established in 1925, Raymond has always been an innovator and pioneer right since its
inception - from being the first in 1959 to introduce a poly-wool blend in India to being a pioneer
in the development of superfine worsted suiting fabrics in the Super 200s wool category.

Over the last ten years, Raymond has consistently built its technological expertise and the
capability to produce the world’s finest fabric. In 2004, Raymond launched a limited edition of the
Super 220s collection, which is made from 12.7 microns of wool, which was an upgrade to the
2003 launch of Super 210s collection (13.2 microns wool) and the 2002 launch of Super 200s
(13.5 microns of wool). Raymond currently produces over 20,000 patterns - from superfine wool
fabric to wool rich blends across different wool grades to various innovative blends with
polyester, linen and exotic fibres like Vicuuna,Passhmina,Guanaco, cashmere, angora, mohair
and bamboo. It was this capability that gave Raymond the confidence to participate in the bid for
the ‘record’ bale of ultra-fine wool.
This ‘record’ bale of wool, tested at 11.6 micron in diameter and comes from a breed of
Australian Merino Sheep - the Saxon merino reared in Queensland and Southern Australia
renowned, for their fine fleece. Raymond successfully outbid several buyers from Italy, Japan
and Korea to procure this bale.

World Class Technology

Procuring the wool was a just a small part of the process. Few companies in the world have the
expertise to convert this rare wool into fabric. Producing the Super 240s fabric involves special
care at every stage of manufacturing. It involves skilled manpower and careful handling of this
extremely delicate fibre right from combing the bales of wool to spinning this delicate fibre into
fine gossamer yarn, to weaving the yarn into a flawless fabric and lastly finishing the fabric into
an exquisite piece of art that truly feels like heaven.

The Super 240s worsted suiting fabric will be available under ‘The Chairman’s Collection’, a
range of international, supersoft and light fabrics with unparalleled comfort and luxury. Only fifty
two pieces of these valuable suit lengths are created making it a rare and prized possession for
the owner of this masterpiece.
