Arabian Peninsula:
Good trade location – with 2 other continents [water – Mediterranean
Sea]
Most of peninsula = desert
Bottom strip = fertile land (southern region)
Bedouins:
- First people to live on this land
- Nomadic Herders:
o Nomads: they travelled from place to place, don’t settle in one
place
o Herders: raise animals (breed them), then eat them
o Travelled in desert in search of food/water
o Because land was hard & scarce, the Bedouins learned to adapt,
survive, and become tough:
Became good warriors (to protect their resources from
other Bedouins)
Became loyal/trustworthy of their families/clans
Courageous (because harsh climate, they had to be, to
survive)
o Once they found fertile soil in south, began settling there:
Main activites of bedouins in south:
1. Farming
2. Trading
3. Fishing
Arabs:
- from Arabian peninsula
- monotheistic (believed in Allah)
Mecca:
- city in Arabian Peninsula where Muhammad was born
Muhammad:
Muslims believe Muhammad is prophet of god sent to
them to create a closer relationship to god.
