PATROL UPDATE IMPORTANT DATES: PATROL SKATING PARTY

The Orange team has started patrol
duties and will continue duties after
winter break. Look for the schedule
posted on the class web site. We had a
great time bowling this week during our
first reward trip.
Keep up the great work patrols!

There is a School Patrol Party for all
patrols over winter break. The cost is $5
which includes skate rental. Your patrol
ID is required for this private party. They
will be giving away great prizes. Hope to
see you there!

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
This week in math we did some fun
activities with fractions, which is the focus of
our current math unit. We practiced
comparing fractions using “fraction burgers”.
We also practiced finding fractions in an
activity using Skittles. We will continue
working with fractions after the break.
In our current IB planner, students are
focusing their inquiry on Agents of Change.
The central idea of this planner is that
individuals have made contributions through
language, science, and the arts. This week
students finished up their research and started
writing their rough drafts. Students are
expected to be working on their rough drafts
over the break.
In literacy, students finished their
poetry books. Students should have shared
their book with you. The poetry book will be
included in our portfolio. Because of the short
week, we did not have spelling words this
week.
Patrols had a great time bowling on
Tuesday. Students also created marshmallow
snowmen and enjoyed a movie in their
pajamas. Have a great holiday! See you in
2011!! 

WINTER BREAK HOMEWORK
Homework expectations over winter
break went home with students last
Friday, December 17. Students need
to write a rough draft for their Agents
of Change summative assessment
report over break. Look for more
information on the class website or in
the yellow inquiry folder students
brought home.
Students are also encouraged to use the
green bookmark they will receive next
week in class to visit some wonderful
academic links. Websites and directions
are clearly listed on the bookmark. Some
of these links include MCA practice,
Study Island, and Think Central.
