Indonesia is an agrarian country, and agricultural sector has contributed a

substantial amount of income and notably in the employment side where agricultural
sector provides approximately 40% of jobs for people in Indonesia helping Indonesia able
to avoid world economic crisis lately triggered by banking collapse in the USA. Despite
the world economic crisis, the economy of Indonesia was still managed to grow prudently
at approximately 4.5% in 2009 and in 2010 the economic growth is estimated to rise to
6.5% the performance of the Indonesian agricultural sectors can still be improved by
reducing losses due to pests and in this context is weeds. In the tropic losses due to weeds
is greater than that of animal pests or diseases. Weeds are always there, in the field
inflicting damages to crops, while animal pests and diseases may attack at a particular
time only.
A considerable research has been carried out; however reduction of losses due to
weeds is only meager. In this opportunity WSSI is inviting researches, experts as well as
practitioners in the fields, agrochemical companies marketing pesticides to come and
share their experience by presenting papers or posters to formulate Integrated Weed
Management to support a Sustainable Agricultural Systems in Indonesia.
Experiences from many locations or even other countries will be useful to provide new
way of seeing things and formulating problems more accurately.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To carry out agenda of working programs drawn out by WSSI

2. To exchange of information in agricultural research activities related to weed
management.

AIMS

1. To develop scientific knowledge and their applications, in the field of weed science and other
scientific diciplines related to weed management
2. To develop WSSI organisation particularly in the role of the organisation in the development of
agriculture in Indonesia.
3. To collete the contribution of weed science in supporting the improvement of agricultural
production in Indonesia.
PARTICIPANTS

1. Practitioners in agricultural sectors including plantations, food crop, horticulture productions,

as well as pastures and forestry including national parks.
2. Producers of production factors including machineries, fertilizer
3. Researchers, at universities, research institutes and sudents.
4. Agrochemical companies, and government institutes regulating the availability of pesticides.
5. Government departments and institutes related to crop protections

LANGUAGE : Engslish and Indonesian language may be used in the seminar

APPRECIATION OF PRESTIGE: International Seminar of HIGI I invites ladies and

gentlemen to present manuscripts orally or in the form of posters. Manuscripts and
posters will be selected based on the abstract sent to the organizing committee and the
results will be announced before October 15, 2010. Abstract of no more than 300 words
must be sent to the Organizing Committee at the latest on October 8, 2010, by E-mail, or
faximail with the full manuscript should be received by the organizing commitee before
20th October 2010. Selected manuscripts will be published in the Journal of Tropical
Weeds and Invasive Plants as the formal journal of our WSSI. Other papers may be
published in a proceedings. Manuscripts having a high quality suitable for publication in
an internationl journal will be highly appreciated The best six of selected manuscripts
with such quality will receive an appreciated prestige in the form of Rp. 2.000.000 ,-
price money each, with free registratin fee. While the next 50 best manuscripts will be
exempted from paying registration fee only.

GUIDANCE FOR ABSTRACT, MANUSCRIPT AND POSTER WRITINGS

A. ABSTRACT
Abstract shall be written following this instructions. Abstract not more than 300 words
must be written both in English and Indonesian langages, with Times New Romans
Title , 12 ft bold centralized is written in English and Indonesian languages; beginning with
capital letter for every nouns and verbs, scientific name is written without authors.
Authors and address, 10 ft bold centralized. Author name (s) and institutions and addresses
must be written clearly including post code. Author address for communication must be
specified to include phone, facsimile, and E-mail.
Teks, 12 ft, single space clean left and right margin.

B. MANUSCRIPTS

The manuscript is written with the total maximum page of 15 , consisting of (1) Title (2)
Abstract, (3) Introduction, (4) Materials and methods, (5) Results and Discussion, (6)
Conclusion, (7) Acknowledgement (if any ), and (8) List of Literature.
Manuscript is written in Microsoft Words on HVS size A4 (21 cm x 29,7 cm), with
Times New Roman font, at 12 point , single space, with left and right, top and bottom margins
at 2.5 cm.. Tables, graphs and photos are attached on separate sheet and labeled with clear
legend and at the back are given a written note of authors and title of manuscript, using 2B
pencil. Herbicide names at the first mentioned is written complete including active ingredient as
well as formulation, chemical, common and commercial names. Thereafter only common
names followed by the rate used in kg ai/ha. The name of weeds, plants, other organisms at the
first mentioned must be written following binomial nomenclature complete with the name of
 authors, following Scientific Style and Format: CBE Manual for Authors, Editors, ad
Publishers. Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, MA.1994. In Italic, thereafter the name of
Genus is abbreviated using the first letter of the genus unless there 2 names of Genus having
the same initials (example: Paspalum conjugatum, thereafter is sufficient to write as P.
Conjugatum, unless Paspalum conjugatum and Pinus merkusii.)
Manuscript may be written in English or Indonesian languages. In the manuscript
literatures cited must be written as author(s) followed by the year of publication in the bracket.
If there are two authors, use “&”, if more than 2 authors use “et.al” following the first author.
List of literature at the end of the manuscript is written alphabetically from the first author’
names. In the list of literature all names of authors must be written complete.

Technical report, research notes, review and feature may be written with free title to
accommodate logical arguments must be written with clarity.

For the selected manuscript the author must provide the organizing committee with full
manuscript in MS word stored in a disc or CDROM.

Manuscript presentation .
Oral presentation is approximately 20 minutes using LCD. Presenter should contact the
organizing Committee a day before the commencement of the session.

C. POSTER PRESENTATION
Posters should be constructed at 80 cm x 120 cm, with minimum 20 point, or point that
facilitate easier rapid reading. Posters are to be presented during poster session in the first day
and kept until the end of the session.
PAYMENT OF REGISTRATION FEE:
Payment may be made through bank transfer to account at BNI Cabang Perguruan Tinggi
Negeri an. HIGI no. 260520090 and a photocopied transfer note is sent to the Organizing
Committee or may be paid directly to the Organizing Committee. Payment may be made before
25th October 2010.
