Your roll as an Activity day leader

(as found at LDS.org/ primary section/handbook 2)

Theme and Purposes of Primary

Primary is for children ages 18 months through 11 years. The Primary theme is “All thy children shall be taught of
the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children” (3 Nephi 22:13). The purposes of Primary are to help
children:

*Feel Heavenly Father’s love for them.

*Learn and understand the gospel of Jesus Christ.
*Feel and recognize the influence of the Holy Ghost.
*Prepare to make and keep sacred covenants.

Where practical, the Primary may hold activity days for boys and girls ages 8 through 11. Leaders and teachers use the
Faith in God guidebooks as resources for activity days, supporting the work children and parents do at home to fulfill
Faith in God requirements.

Activity days are held no more than twice each month. They may be held at the meetinghouse or in a home. As
leaders determine the frequency and location of activity days, they consider the time constraints of the children’s
families, travel distance and costs, children’s safety, and other local circumstances. Leaders ensure that activity days
follow the guidelines in 11.8.1 and in chapter 13.

The children’s Primary teachers conduct activity days unless the bishopric calls separate activity days leaders. Activities at the ward, stake, and
multistake levels bring Church members together as “fellow citizens with the saints” (Ephesians 2:19). In addition to providing fun and
entertainment, activities should build testimonies, strengthen families, and foster unity and personal growth. Activities strengthen members by giving
them a sense of belonging and mutual support. Activities should help members feel connected to others their age, to their leaders, and to their
families. Activities should also help members see how living the gospel brings “the joy of the saints” (Enos 1:3). Church activities should be planned
to fulfill gospel-centered purposes. In addition to the general purposes mentioned above, these include:

1-Participating in service projects that bless others and build community relationships.
2-Developing talents and appreciation for cultural arts.
3-Improving fitness and learning sportsmanship.
4-Gaining education and vocational training.
5-Celebrating special occasions and commemorating Church or local historical events.
6-Developing leadership skills.
7-Developing self-reliance.
8-Participating in missionary work, retention, activation, temple work, and family history work.

In the old handbook (the new one just came out) we were told to hold a group activity once a year. That is why most wards have a daddy/daughter and or a
mommy/daughter date. They are great for getting to know the parents and getting everyone to know each other! It is no longer in the new handbook. But you
could do it as your activity for the month.
we have usually planned a Daddy/daughter in the fall and a mommy/daughter in the spring. Those are our 2 big activities each year. We have always had
great success, and always get non-members to our activites. You will find that some wards have two leaders for all girls and some have leaders for each age
group 8,9,10,&11. It just depends on how many activity day girls you have per ward, or branch. You are always supposed to have 2 female leaders.

(my) Sample activity plan:

1- Pass out calendars to all girls-
you can do monthly or for as many months as you want-parents really need and use them-
2- call girls the night before to remind them (or have a girl be in charge of calling all the
girls

1-Prayer
2- Recite motto (which is found on front of Faith in God Book)
3-Work on Articles of faith (with songs or games) (10 to 15 min)
4- Activity (40min)
5- Fill out folders- Let girls put stickers on things they passed off (5 min)
6- Closing Prayer

7- (Leaders fill out their own folder to keep up/to date records)
**We keep records after every activity in our leader folder because
Faith in god books get lost or are not brought everytime. We give the
Girls each a folder to keep records of but they are kept in a folder bag that We
bring everytime to an activity.. Then when they are old enough to leave the class,
we pass the folder along To the parents or the next leader, that way everything is up
to date!

Please. Please, please go & meet each girl as they come into activity days on
their birthday. We give a small gift/treat and a calendar of when our activities days are. Bring a faith-in god book, and explain
the program if the primary has not

Welcome to Activity days.......

We are so “excited” to have you join us!

Activity days is an exciting time where leaders meet with you to help prepare you to enter the young
women’s program by teaching you the gospel and introducing you to skills that will help you become the
girl the lord has made you to be. We could not be more excited that you are going to be a part
of our group. We hope you will find wonderful
friendships with us.

Please mark your Calendar…..

We meet:

You should have received a Faith in God book from the Primary. If you have not, don’t worry, we have extras.
Please bring it with you each time we meet. We will be encouraging you to receive your Faith in God Award and
will help you track and pass off goals in your booklet. We are here to help you in any way that we can. Please call
us if you have any questions or concerns.
Love, Your Activity day leaders!
