Chapter Hyperion Financial
Management New Features
This document describes the new features that are included in Hyperion Financial
Management Release 4.0. For information on installation, see the Hyperion Financial
Management Installation Guide. For information on late-breaking developments with
Hyperion Financial Management, refer to the Hyperion Financial Management Readme.
Hyperion Financial Management 4.0 introduces the following five major features:
● A new user interface, standardized for all Hyperion Business Performance Management
Suite products, providing superior end user navigation and taskflow
● Hyperion Smart View™ for Office, which includes a new spreadsheet add-in for Hyperion
Financial Management and Hyperion Planning, and a tighter integration with Microsoft
Office products
● Intercompany Transactions module to capture and match intercompany transactions at the
invoice level
● Web-based Task Automation module to automate and chain together Hyperion Financial
Management tasks such as Load/Extract and Consolidate
● Point of View filtered by security enables users to see only those elements of the Scenario,
Entity, ICP, Account and Custom 1...4 dimensions to which they have access. This feature
makes system navigation easier.
In addition, Hyperion Financial Management 4.0 presents administration and compliance
enhancements as well as Web usability enhancements such as a consolidation progress bar,
document attachment capability, expanded workspaces, and new features for Web Data Entry
forms.
Page Layout
The new home page is divided into three main areas:
● View Pane
The above example shows the home page as it is displayed for an Advanced user. The
Advanced user can switch between Advanced and Basic modes by using the menu option in the
masthead area. The Basic user can select from a choice of workspaces in the Project View, or
select tasks from a drop-down list. The masthead is the top level area that includes the
application name as well as the Hyperion logo and product name. The main window shows the
detail of the task or document that you selected from either the View Pane or the drop-down
list.
View Pane
The View Pane is displayed in the left panel of the Hyperion Financial Management Web page.
You can minimize or enlarge it as needed. The View Pane window can display a Project View or
Browser View, depending on the selected option. The Project View lists the collection of
workspaces for each user. You can expand each workspace to show the items that make up the
workspace. The Browser View lists all documents and tasks within the application that the user
is allowed to access. The Browser View is a split pane. The bottom pane reflects the contents of
the item selected in the top pane. You can double-click parent items displayed in the bottom
pane to expand them. You can select child items, for example, document names, or tasks, with
a single click, which displays the item in the main window.
Top Menu
The new user interface provides a general top bar menu for File, View, Administration, and
Help options.
Smart Tags
Smart Tag are predefined properties that associate available actions with a keyword. For
example, if you type smartview in an Excel cell, the Smart Tag icon is displayed next to
Smart View. You then have access to a menu with the following options:
● Ability to use Hyperion Smart View Function (HsGetValue) to display data
● Ability to import images to Word and PowerPoint and grids to Excel
● Ability to refresh previously inserted images and data
For more information, see the Hyperion Smart View for Office User’s Guide or online help.
Note that users have implied access to the parent and ancestors of any member to which they
have been granted access. This means that users see those ancestors and parents in a
hierarchical tree structure but are not able to access them.
HFM 4.0 Metadata filtering supports Organization by Period setting. When the Org by Period
setting is specified for the Entity list enumeration, the system checks the Active account value
for the Parent/Child node to determine whether the entity is active for the given
Scenario/Year/Period.
For more information, see the Hyperion Financial Management Administrator’s Guide.
Document Attachments
Hyperion Financial Management 4.0 introduces new compliance updates designed to support
better documentation by end users.
● Document attachments provides the ability to attach documents in Web Data Entry forms,
Web grid cells and in Process Management cells.
● Cell text has the ability to support up to 1900 characters (increased from 256 characters as
supported in HFM 3.5x).
The documents are stored in the database and you can apply security classes to them. You can
load all types of documents into Hyperion Financial Management, for example, Excel
documents (.xls), Word documents (.doc,) text (.txt), and PowerPoint ( .ppt) files.
For more information, see the Hyperion Financial Management User’s Guide.
In Hyperion Reports 7.2, you can display document attachments. The cells with attached
documents are underlined and you can access a document by clicking on the list. In PDF
format, the attached documents are printed after the regular pages.
Database Management
Hyperion Financial Management 4.0 enables Database Management on the Web. The Web
module includes the same features as the Win32 Database Management module.
The Database Management module enables you to:
● Copy data from a specific Scenario, Year and Period or a group of periods to a specific
destination.
● Clear Entity and Account data from a specific Scenario, Year and Period or list of periods.
You can only clear input data.
For more information, see the Hyperion Financial Management User’s Guide.
Extended Analytics
Hyperion Financial Management 4.0 improves the Extended Analytics offering by introducing
new extract types, the ability to save extract query criteria and accessing Extended Analytics
from the Hyperion Financial Management Web interface. Extended Analytics is available from
the Hyperion Financial Management Web interface under the Administration tasks. The
Win32 desktop is no longer required to access the Extended Analytics module.
Aggregation Options
Standard Aggregation Option
This is the original schema that was available in prior versions of Hyperion Financial
Management. The Standard schema creates 14 tables (13 dimensions and 1 data). The
following example displays the tables created using the Standard Aggregation.
The Standard schema tables include parent information, descriptions, user-defined fields,
dimension sharing, ICP, dimension member leaf information, as well as the default currency.
Metadata Only
The entire metadata structure is exported using the standard schema. The standard 14 tables
are created; however, the fact table is not populated with data.
Selected Metadata Only
The metadata structure selected by the Administrator is exported to the standard schema
format. In the following example, the Administrator selects partial dimension hierarchies for
the extract.
Workspace
Hyperion Financial Management 4.0 introduces new features in the concept of workspaces. A
workspace provides a seamless way for users to interact with Hyperion Financial Management
applications without having to know multiple modules or have extensive knowledge/training
on the system.
The concept of workspaces has been extended to Hyperion Tools and external objects.
Incorporating Hyperion Reports and Analyzer objects in a feature called Related Content
enables you to better group all of the documents that are included within Hyperion Financial
Management and simplifies your process flow.
The ability to include non-Hyperion items also enhances the usability of workspaces and
enables you to create a workspace that covers a total closing cycle.
Two new sections have been added to the Document Manager:
Links - the ability to define URL links in Hyperion Financial Management and to incorporate
them in a workspace or define them as Favorites.
You define a specific URL in the Hyperion Financial Management Server and Web
configuration utility. After you set up the URL, you can access Hyperion Reports and Analyzer
repositories in the Related Content section in the Document Manager.
Items are saved in Hyperion Financial Management and you can then add them to a
workspace, or launch them separately from the Related Content menu in the View Pane.
For more information, see the Hyperion Financial Management User’s Guide.
For multiple member selection (available in Extended Analytics, Database Management and
Data Extract), you can select multiple individual members or use the system list to define the
selection.
Searching for dimension members is also available in the member selector. You can search by
the name (for example, EastSales), or by using a wildcard (for example, East*).
Note: Java grids that were created in previous versions of Hyperion Financial Management are
compatible with the new HTML grids. Previous HTML grids are not compatible and need to
be recreated.
Style
The string in the style field consists of one or more style properties, separated by a semi-colon
defined in the Style field. Each property consists of the property name, a colon, and a value.
The value may be one or more words, separated by spaces. For example: “Style: color: red;
text-align: right”.
Blank
The Blank option allows you to specify a blank row, column, or cell in a form.
Read-Only
The Read-Only option allows you to specify that a row, column, or cell has read-only access in
a specific form.
In addition, Hyperion Financial Management 4.0 introduces new suppression options for both
the row and column.
For more information, see the Hyperion Financial Management Administrator’s Guide.
