This unit provides an introduction to the main production processes, styles, planning
and techniques used in music programme production. This unit is linked with the
learning in Unit 2: Media Industries, Unit 3: Research Techniques, Unit 5: Practical
Skills Audio, Unit 13:Radio Documentary, Unit 17: Radio Magazine, Unit 20: Music

Assignment Outline B
This assignment gives each learner the opportunity to work alone or with a fellow learner to see a
whole production from idea generation, through interviewing, to assembly and editing of the
package. Having already produced a group package for LCR FM , you are now asked to consider
the following possibilities for broadcast to a larger audience – you must choose a suitable national
station for your tx.
DAILY OBJECT
Produce exploration of an object in everyday use eg. Mobile phone, loo, johnsons talcum powder, fig
rolls, 99s. This can be ‘the story’ of the object or a montage that allows creative use of audio
material.
OR
DAILY ACTIVITY
Encapsulate what it’s like to do an activity/attend an event, where you are there for the listener who
then feels totally clued into what’s involved eg. Ballroom dancing, kitesurfing, fishing, greyhound
racing
DURATION: 5’00”, or 7’00”, 20 Seconds leeway either side (if really keen, can return short and long
versions)
