SAIMALA GOES TO LAMPUNG:

GIVING CHANCE TO LAMPUNG VALUABLE PEARLS TO FEEL ATMOSPHERE

Abstract

In 2009, the University of Indonesia opened SIMAK UI. SIMAK UI is driveway that
implemented and managed independently by the university rector premises. SIMAK UI
held several months earlier than the other UI driveway such as UMB and SNMPTN.
Number of students accepted via the SIMAK UI also represents the largest number;
more than 50% of new students will be filtered through SIMAK UI.

Saw the publication SIMAK UI that is not so massively to the remote areas, we as a
student from Lampung province who joined in SAIMALA (University of Indonesia
student union from Lampung). Then we try to find solutions together and then come
idea of making a project called "SAIMALA goes to Lampung".

Saimala goes to Lampung has a program that consists of road shows around the SMA,
recognizing UI and SIMAK-UI Try out. The first event is a series of Road show around
high schools in several districts in Lampung province. Of course, there were not just
urban schools that we visited, but also in remote rural schools. In addition to
introducing global UI front of the class, we also explain how to register SIMAK UI via
internet. The second event is recognizing UI campus. These forms of the opening
ceremony stand 12 faculties. At this booth, students could directly discuss with UI
students. The third program is Try out. Try out is the simulation test program as SIMAK
UI test. We tried to create a similar atmosphere as real SIMAK exam to made students
accustomed and no longer awkward when faced the true exam.

From road show process known there were many students in the province of Lampung
are not familiar with the UI as a best college in Indonesia. Never refer to UI, how to
open Registration Website they do not know. Of course, we already provide
information about UI start from the cost of living up to the stories of success neglected
children in the UI. The result is not disappointing; many of them are interested into the
UI. We could see their Interest by their enthusiasm to follow Try Out and SIMAK UI real
exam. We believe that they interest to make their life better

University of Indonesia should realize that not only students from the city who want to
enter the UI but also the local students, the UI should provide more massif publication
as the best university in Indonesia. Local governments should also help facilitate
students' achievement motivation to enter the best university in Indonesia. To all UI
students, who come from the area, try to look at our brother or sister. Give your best
for your area. We have been trying it, now, it's your turn.
