These fingerless mitts are simple and
quick, and use approximately 50
grams of worsted weight yarn. The
cables on the mitts twist in different
directions, one to the right and one
to the left for a little added interest.

Due to the ribbing used for these


mitts, sizing by altering the stitch
count isn’t an option. So, for larger
or smaller mitts I would suggest
either using a different size needle
or a different yarn/needle
combination all together.

Size:
Women’s L/Men’s M

Materials:
o 50 g worsted weight yarn
(shown in Cascade 220 superwash)
o 5 Size 5 dpns
o Waste Yarn/Stitch Holder
o 3 stitch markers
o Cable needle (optional)

Gauge:
5.5 stitches per inch

Pattern Notes:

Abbreviations:
c4b: Slip the first two stitches on to the cable needle and hold to the back of the work, knit the
next two stitches, knit the two stitches on the cable needle

c4f: Slip the first two stitches onto the cable needle and hold to the front of the work, knit the
next two stitches, knit the two stitches on the cable needle

m1: Make one stitch

m1l: Pick up the left hand leg of the 1st stitch in the 2nd row on your right hand needle (the
stitch that was just knit) with your left hand needle, knit through the back loop.

m1r: Pick up the 1 stitch (the one knit the previous round- not the one on the needle now) on
the left hand needle with the tip of the right hand needle, place on to the left hand needle and
knit through the back loop.

Right Cable Ribbing (Multiple of 10):


Rounds 1-3: *k4, p2, k2, p2* around
Round 4: *c4f, p2, k2, p2* around
Round 5: *k4, p2, k2, p2* around

Left Cable Ribbing (Multiple of 10):


Rounds 1-3: *k4, p2, k2, p2* around
Round 4: *c4b, p2, k2, p2* around
Round 5: *k4, p2, k2, p2* around

Begin!

Left mitt:
Cast on 40 stitches and join in the
round being careful not to twist. Work
rows 1-5 of the Left Cable Ribbing
three times.
Next Round: *k4, p2, k2, p2* around
Next Round: Knit

Thumb Gusset:
Next Round: k6, place marker, m1, place marker, k to end
Next Round: Knit
Next Round: k6, slip marker, m1, k1, m1, slip marker, k to end
Next Two Rounds: Knit
Next Round: k6, slip marker, m1r, k to marker, m1l, slip marker, k to end
Next Two Rounds: Knit

Continue as established until there are 13 stitches between the thumb gusset markers

Knit two rounds

Next Round: k6, remove marker, slip the next 13 stitches on to scrap yarn, cast on two stitches
using the backward loop method, remove marker, k to end

Next 6 Rounds: Knit

Beginning on row 2, knit the Left Cable Ribbing twice.

Bind off in pattern.

Right mitt:
Make as for right, but substitute
the Right Cable Ribbing for the Left
Cable Ribbing

Thumb (Both mitts):

Place the 13 held stitches on DPNs

Round 1: Knit, picking up 2 stitches


in the 2 stitches cast on using the
backward loop method.
Round 2: Knit to 1 stitch before the
end, k2tog
Round 3: Knit
Rounds 4-6: *k1, p1* to end*

Bind off in pattern.

Finishing:
Weave in the ends and fill and holes around the thumb. I have a tutorial on my blog for using
the duplicate stitch to fill in the holes created when picking up stitches for the thumb.
