Karate for Christ 61981 US HWY 231 Cleveland, AL 35049 205-529-1891 or 205-274-4780 This document should not be construed as anything more than a brief overview of some areas of philosophy and a few basic techniques of the Shinsei System. Do not assume any thing deeper and a surface knowledge can be imparted through this document. What you are about to see are excerpts from the notes, pictures, sketches, and scribbles from those who have founded and studied Shinsei. The information spans 30 years. Some pages are faded. Some are illustrated with hand drawn figures. This document is meant to be the companion supplement to the video tape offered through Karate for Christ entitled, “Shinsei Jujitsu / Hapkido”. We hope you enjoy and learn. Joseph Lumpkin Karate for Christ 61981 US HWY 231 Cleveland, AL 35049 205-529-1891 or 205-274-4780 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ; Tam from a rural town in Alabama, Itis not a place you would think that drugs and gangs would be a problem... But they are huge problems here. Three years ago my son was 4 years old, our community was in decline, and the fabric of our southern society was unraveling. I felt I had to do something, A friend of mine, one of the local deputies, came back from a clinic on serial killers and murders. He was stunned to find such a direct correlation between a child’s environment and antisocial behavior. Latch-key kids, Joners, and kids with no extracurricular activities are the template that sociopaths and violent criminals are cut from. He agreed we had to do something. So we did. We started a Martial arts ministry, We targeted “at risk youth”, those children ages 4 — 18 with single parent, low income homes. We encouraged the loners and the rejected to come. We prepared for 20 or 30 kids. 400 kids came. We begin and end classes with prayer, teach bible lessons and counsel the kids on anger ‘management. It is making a difference in our community. It is stopping the conditions that are causing our decline. The children are exposed to a strong father image, given lots of love, taught about Jesus, and offered something to get them off of the streets. This program has made such a difference in our church and community we wanted you to know about it. If you decide to try this program you will not be disappointed. If we can be of any assistance please feel free to call. All assistance is free of charge. We will help you set up and start a ministry. We will advise as requested, we will speak to your church on this issue if needed. There are never any charges or fees, Our membership is free. Our information is free. Your church needs no money to start this program. It requires only a little space and someone willing to teach and coordinate the outreach, If you want a growing children and youth ministry, and if you want to truly reach outside your church walls please consider this type of ministry. Yours in Christ Joseph Lumpkin President of Karate for Christ International www. karateforchrist.com 205-529-1891 or 205-274-4780 A BRIEF HISTORY OF SHINSEI HAPKIDO SHINSEI began by being endorsed by Six Grandmasters. Shinsei means - Sacredness, Holiness, Divinity, Genius, Truth, Purity, A New Face, A New System, A Nova. We intend this new system to be one where everyone and every age can find a place. Shinsei contains the basic kicks and punches of Karate, soft blocks, the basic throws and holds of Judo, the wrist techniques, bars, and takedowns of Jujitsu, and the good news of Jesus Christ. The Philosophy of Shinsei is to evade, invade, and control. Evade the attack by never meeting force with force. Invade by penetrating the opponent's defenses. Control the opponent by throws, holds, and bars. Once contact is made control is acquired. We are members of the United States Jujitsu Federation and have begun a lifetime alliance with Akayama Ryu Jujitsu under the teachings of Grandmaster Barlow. Thus Shinsei was born. It was decided that Shinsei would offer two paths to make it easier for the diverse membership to acquire ranking. Since the majority of membership fall into a Japanese or Korean background we offer Shinsei Jujitsu and Shinsei Hapkido, ‘These two systems are identical except for terms and approach. That is to say the same techniques are used but the terms and context are different. This allows the Japanese and Korean Artists to transition smoothly without having to learn new terms, names, titles, or approaches. Dr. Daryl Covington will be heading up Shinsei Hapkido. Dr. Covington is the Do Ju Nim (Founder) of Wha Moo Do Hapkido but has laid aside his title to follow God's will and become the Head of the Hapkido branch of the Shinsei System for Karate for Christ Intemational. He also holds 2nd Dan In Kodokan Judo, and is 6th Dan in Shinsei Hapkido, He is a great asset to our ministry. He coached our national team in 2000, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.
