engineering and inspecting welding products to participate in the first training course for
Associate Welding Engineer (AWE)

Associate Welding
Engineer (AWE)
A training course conducted in collaboration with Japanese Welding Engineer-
ing Society (JWES), which leads to the Welding Engineer qualification

Interested parties must:


• Be Malaysian citizens
• Be in charge of welding engineering or teaching welding engineering or inspecting welding products
• Be between 22 and 55 years of age on the starting day of this program (Participants' dates of birth
should be between 18 November 1955 and 17 November 1988)
• Not be doing military service or work for military related organizations.
• Have a sufficient working knowledge of English
• Be physically and mentally fit to undergo an intensive training program and are able to attend all the ses-
sions of the course over the 6-day period

INTRODUCTION

In order for the fabricator to fabricate welding constructions which satisfy the quality requirements of
the customer/user and maintains safe performance of the welding construction through its service life,
the welding coordination personnel having adequate technical knowledge, job competence, and
experience in welding-related activities shall be engaged.

In other words, good quality of welding constructions can be secured only through proper welding
production executed under responsible control by welding engineer who are engaged taking
responsibility in deciding design, welding production plans, welding procedure specifications, and
inspection procedure specifications.

JWES has classified THREE levels of certifications of welding coordination personnel which shall be
determined by the assessment and examination stipulated in WES 8103:2008: Standard for
Certification of Welding Co-ordination Personnel;
1. The Associate Welding Engineer (AWE),
2. The Welding Engineer (WE) and
3. The Senior Welding Engineer (SWE).

Notes:
1. College = Polytechnic or equivalent
2. High School = IKM, ILP or equivalent
3. Required years of experience in the above table are the minimum requirement.
4. Required years of experience in welding engineering/production shall be the years in which the
applicant has been fully engaged in the welding-related jobs. If the applicant has not been fully
engaged in the welding-related jobs, decision shall be made based on the actual state of the job.
5. A graduate of university/institute of science or engineering as in ⑤ include a graduate of a college
of technology/engineering who has completed the graduate course of two years and a bachelor’s
degree certified by University Evaluation.
6. The academic career of the graduate of science or engineering special college given in ⑪ shall be
approved when the applicant is a graduate from a high school.
