ORMOC CITY – One of the city’s
oldest bakeshop and grocery, situ-
ated in the city’s most populous
barangay, was held-up this Tues-
day, December 21, early evening,
in what is the latest in a series of
hold-ups that have been happening
here and in neighboring towns.
At around 6:00 PM of December
21, three armed men boldly barged
into the Cogon Family Bakeshop and
Grocery. One held-up the cashier at
gunpoint while another shot the secu-
rity guard as he tried to grapple with
them. A third man stayed outside the
store premises, acting as a lookout.
The guard was rushed to the
OSPA-Farmers Medical Center where
he was operated on.

DECEMBER CELEBRANTS. Photos show two birthday celebrants this December. Left is Liza Makabenta of Eternal Plans
Inc and the bubbly wife of Engr. Lino Makabenta who settled for a simple dinner with family and friends at their new abode
at Brgy. Bagong Buhay. Right, Bella Dagpin enjoys a swing with a dance instructor during her natal day, also celebrated at
their home at Sitio Kalipay, together with family, friends and their employees. Her birthday was also their Christmas party for
their employees.

OLBA-HOJ Christmas Party

DENTAL OPTIONS, a partnership venture between Dr.
Michael “Mike” Tan and nephew Dr. Luis Miguel Espina, opened
its doors this month. The plush clinic which offers a wide-range
of modern dental services is located at the second floor of the
Gaisano Riverside Mall. The two dentists are seen in the picture
with their assistants (on the left) Mercy Onitiza and Angeline

INSTEAD OF THE USUAL PRESENTATIONS from the various offices of the Hall of Justice here and from the Occidental
Leyte Bar Association, the group opted for a more laid back Christmas Party with gay comedians from the 22nd Street
Comdey Bar in Cebu coming in. Of course, the night was not complete without the parlor games like the Tomato Dance
where Atty. Jasper Lucero and wifey showed their prowess. Photos below show the male lawyers in their dance number

December in Baybay, Leyte

December is one of the busiest months in Baybay. Aside from the usual Christmas activities, its fiesta also falls
on December 26 and 27 which is preceded by many sectoral activities. Leftmost shows Mayor Carmen L. Cari
with the Women Association Officers during their induction on December 16. Middle, with Leyte board member
Junjun Cayunda during the Little Mister and Miss coronation and rightmost, posing before the Belen.

Baybay was also an awardee of one of the Best Health Practices in the Region. Here, Mayor
Cari is seen with her citation together with other awardees during the recently concluded Health
Summit held at the DPWH Convention Center.
One of the most awaited events in Baybay is the annual agro-trade fair. On the podium is Roger
Portula, provincial agriculturist, paying homage to Mayor Cari and VSU president Dr. Jose
Bacusmo. Portula is an alumnus of VSU.

relief to the General is a bad precedent.
It will encourage future thieves to copy
his style and be accorded VIP treatment
with the generosity of a magnanimous
philanthropist. Ugh! It is very evident
that the General abused his position in
the military. He even shared it with his
whole family. All of them have luxury
cars and well traveled. What happened
to that time-honored tradition of the
military about honor and country? They
swore by it.

The readers are also urged to make
their New year’s resolution for 2011.
Every time the year ends, you can al-
ways review and gauge whether you
are a better person compared to the one
a year ago. Eventually, you will attain
perfection if you make the necessary
corrections. You do not have to make
it a long list.
Merry Christmas to one and all!!!
