GOD IS FAITHFUL

I. A FAITHFUL CALLING.
A. God promised the hope of eternal life long ago.
1. Titus 1:1-4 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's
elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God,
that cannot lie, promised before the world began; But hath in due times manifested his word through
preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour; To Titus,
mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ our Saviour.

**God made an absolute, irrevocable promise before the beginning of the world that He would offer to
the world the hope of eternal life through the preaching of the gospel.

B. Now God faithfully calls us into His family.

1. 1 Cor 1:9-10 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ
our Lord. Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the
same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the
same mind and in the same judgment.

**God is faithful, Who called us unto the fellowship of His Son and our Lord; and He commands us to
be faithful to that fellowship.

II. FAITHFUL PROMISES OF SALVATION.

A. God will be true to His promises.
1. 2 Tim 2:11-19 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If
we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he
abideth faithful : he cannot deny himself. Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them
before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study
to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And
their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth
have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some. Nevertheless
the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And,
Let every one that nameth the name of Christ [Christians] depart from iniquity.

B. God’s promises will stand sure and steadfast.

1. Heb 6:13-20 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he
sware by himself, Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee. And so,
after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men verily swear by the greater: and an
oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew
unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two
immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation,
who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an
anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the
forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

**By God’s immutable promise, we have strong consolation in Christ in Whom we have sought refuge;

and we have a sure and steadfast anchor in Christ, an anchor that holds us to and in Christ, who has gone
before us to be with His Father and to be our high priest.
2. 2 Peter 1:2-4 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus
our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and
godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto
us exceeding great and precious promises : that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

III. GOD FAITHFULLY PROTECTS AND CARES FOR HIS OWN.

A. God will make us strong.
1. 2 Thess 3:1-5 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be
glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for
all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil. And
we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command
you. And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ.

**God the Son is faithful in His promise to establish us [make us strong in the faith] and shield us from
evil.

B. God sets apart those who set themselves apart from the world.
1. 1 Thess 5:22-24 Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you
wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of
our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

**Christ is faithful in His calling (the message of the Gospel), and He is faithful to sanctify and preserve
those who avoid even the appearance of evil.

C. God faithfully saves those who commit their souls to Him

1. 1 Peter 4:12-19
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing
happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye
may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you:
on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's
matters.
16 Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the
end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
19 Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in
well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

**God is our faithful Creator and, as such, can surely be trusted to keep our souls.

2. 1 Cor 10:11-13 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our
admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth
take heed lest he fall. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God
is faithful , who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

**God is faithful in His promise not to allow us to be tempted above our strength to resist – without
providing us a way out of that temptation.
IV. CHRIST IS THE FAITHFULWITNESS OF OUR SALVATION.
A. He is the One Who washed us from our sins.
1. Rev 1:1-6
1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must
shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are
written therein: for the time is at hand.
4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which
was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of
the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.
Amen.

B. His blood continues to cleanse us as we walk the Christian life.

1. 1 John 1:5-10 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God
is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in
darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we
say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that
we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

**God is faithful to maintain His fellowship with us and keep us in His fellowship as long as we hold up
our end of the relationship with Him and acknowledge our sins, private or public.
