In the book of Laurie M. Bagby, she focuses in the different types of Philosophy.
The Philosophies are Idealism, Realism, Liberalism and the history as progress. Each
Chapter of her book was discussed properly. She started it by giving the definitions of
In the first chapter of the book, she explains the nature of idealism. She defined
the word Idealism as well as the meaning of idealist. We all ready know that idealist is
the one who accept the doctrine of idealism. She added their beliefs like the absolute
truth and reasoning. There are also certain standards stated in her book such as what is
right and good and etc. The next Philosophy is Realism, realism was considered as the
opposite of idealism because they do not accept the goals and beliefs of the latter, they
simply rejected it. Laurie totally distinguished why realism is different from idealism. She
also justified the beliefs of the realists like the issue about change. Furthermore, it was
found out that realists are optimistic than the other. Liberalism is another Philosophy in
her book. In this chapter she defined the meaning of it that really usually comes into our
minds. What I like the most is that Laurie uses the definition of the three great authors
Mill, Locke and Rousseau. I discovered that Liberalism started from the assumption that
well discussed and you can really see the difference compared to others, though there
are similarities like liberalism and realism, but it does not dominate.
