NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HVFAC: CATALYZING INFRASTRUCTURE GROWTH

High-Volume Fly Ash Concrete Technology

Conferences on High Volume Fly Ash Concrete : 12 – 13 December 2005

National Conference on High Volume Fly-Ash Conrete: Catalyzing Infrastructural Growth was organized by
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and International Center for Sustainable Development of Cement and
Concrete (ICON), CANMET, Canada on 12 – 13 December 2005 at Hotel Taj Palace, New Delhi. This
conference was a part of CIDA supported CII – CANMET project “Implementation of High-Volume Fly Ash
Concrete Technology in India for the reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emission from the Cement and Concrete
Industry”.

In November 2003, the project started with a national seminar series that was held to create awareness of
HVFAC Technology and to understand the issues and apprehensions of Indian construction industry with the
usage of high volumes of fly ash in concrete. This was followed by further laboratory development work on
HVFAC technology, both in India and Canada towards adapting the technology to Indian materials and climatic
conditions. Entrepreneurs forthcoming to use the technology in their applications were encouraged and a
variety of projects were selected from different regions of the country using concrete in varied applications.
Prestigious projects like the Bandra - Worli Sea Link Project, Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant 5 & 6, Delhi Metro
Rail Project and several other housing and roads projects were undertaken.

The conference was organized to highlight the results and findings of the project. This two-day event provided a
platform to share all the data and experiences accumulated over the past two years in implementing the project
and also to showcase the projects built with HVFAC in India so far.
