GRATITUDE

Sub – Value of the Week

At the end of the week, you are expected to:

• Explain the concept of gratitude

• Appreciate the importance of being thankful as an important trait of an
LPCian
• Evaluate yourself if you manifest the trait of gratitude

Day 1: What is Gratitude?

Gratitude is the virtue of being thankful for all of the things that happened to
us. It is also being positive in facing problems that we encounter almost from day to day. It
is very difficult indeed to be grateful to God if we are burdened with a lot of problems.
However, we should avoid blaming God or even questioning him on his decisions for us.
Remember that we He is not giving problems that we cannot handle. Gratitude is
acknowledging the perfection of things even amidst the imperfection. When you become
grateful, you will draw into your life all the love and abundance that you could ever want.
You are able to see beyond the challenges and see the treasures found in it.
According to Melody Beattie, gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns
what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order,
confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a
friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for
tomorrow.
Lastly, according to Thomas Kemphis, “Be thankful for the smallest blessing,
and you will deserve to receive greater. Value the least gifts no less than the greatest and
simple graces as especial favors. If you remember the dignity of the Giver, no gift will
seem small or mean, for nothing can be valueless that is given by the highest God.”
Day 2: Bible Reading

Refer to the format to be given by the CSF in reading bible verses.

Matthew 25: 31-46

Guide Questions:
Why did God reward the people?
How does the virtue of being grateful shown in the bible verse?
Do you think you can also achieve the rewards given by God?

Day 3: Story telling

Ten Lepers

Leprosy was a terrible skin disease. It was infectious. This means it could spread
from a person to others, and they also would have the disease.
There were strict rules which a leper had to observe. The person had to live outside
the camp away from other people so the disease would not spread. If the sores went
away, the leper had to go to the priest to be examined. If the priest said that the man was

The story about the ten lepers occurred when Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
The men met him, but stayed a distance away. (The law said a leper must not come near
and must call out "Unclean!" so people would know he had leprosy.)
Guide Questions:
What is leprosy?
Why were lepers avoided by the people?
What did Jesus do to the ten lepers?
Did the lepers show their gratitude to Jesus? How?
How can you show your gratitude to Jesus if you are healed by any disease?

Be ready to present this letter to your classmates tomorrow.

You will submit that to your teacher at the end of the period.

How would you feel if someone you dearly love died unexpectedly and you were not able
to say how much you are thankful to his/her?
