Main Idea: Our Enemy Tries To Scare Us Into Looking Away From His Crimes
Scene Setup: Prince Malagant once sat at King Arthur's Round Table of Knights. But
pride and rebellion have led him to create his own army, which preys on the poor and
the weak. When Arthur brings his new bride-to-be from her small town of Leonesse to
Camelot, Malagant shows up for a parley.
Jesus teaches that our enemy is mobile, like a lion looking for prey, and that he
comes only to kill, steal and destroy. Malagant represents this adversary. Notice that
Malagant, knowing he cannot destroy the entire kingdom of Camelot, negotiates for a
piece. The enemy of our own soul will come and look for the areas of our life that he
can control. As he establishes his presence in these seemingly outlying areas he then
breaks his treaty and expands his battle to attempt win the entire area. Arthur
understands that you cannot give this kind of enemy even a small part of your life.
Arthur resists the offer of peaceful co-existence.
Arthur is right when he stands his ground and fights for his kingdom. His adversary
warns him that if he doesn't capitulate, he is going to have to fight to keep his
inheritance. But Arthur is wise. "There is a peace that can only be found on the other
side of war," Arthur reluctantly admits. Arthur knows that our lives will have an
element of battle if we want to experience genuine peace. Sin is not slack. Sin is
crouching at your door waiting to consume you. Just like Malagant in this clip, once
you give it an inch you can see that it is only a matter of time until it tries to take the
whole. Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee. That is our strategy and God's
promise.
