as outlined in this prerequisite table, before a more advanced course is studied. The knowledge gained in the prerequisite course is
necessary to adequately comprehend the material in the more advanced course. A prerequisite is satisfied by a pass – P or transfer

the Association’s requirements for certification. CGA practical
experience is assessed on the basis of professional competencies.
To qualify for certification, all candidates must attain a specific set
of competencies through approved full–time work experience. This
normally requires 36 months. Of the total experience requirement
outlined, all students must have one year of accounting/financial
experience at a professional level in Canada to be certified.

Laurentian Degree Partnership

The CGA degree requirement is an exit rather than an entrance

requirement for all students in the CGA program of professional
studies. The degree may be from any approved post-secondary
degree-granting institution and may be obtained in any field.

CGA Canada has degree opportunity agreements with Laurentian

University for an honours bachelor of commerce degree and a
master of business administration degree.

The degree partnership agreements arranged by CGA Canada

have been designed to fully satisfy the degree requirement for
CGA certification. Students admitted to the Laurentian programs
may attain CGA professional certification as well as a degree from
a fully accredited Canadian degree-granting institution, while
continuing to work full time.

To satisfy the degree requirement, students who do not currently

hold a degree are strongly advised to apply for admission to the
Laurentian HB Comm. program.

To apply for admission, students must be enrolled in the CGA

program and have successfully completed, or been granted,
transfer credits for all foundation level courses of the CGA
program.

For further information, please visit www.cga.laurentian.ca.

36
Professional Certification Requirements

To qualify for membership, students must complete a minimum of four PACE Level CGA courses/exams. In addition to successful
completion of all academic requirements, students must satisfy the work experience requirement (PEAQ). For the course and degree
requirements, please refer to the program requirements on page 20.

Application for Membership

Once all certification requirements are met, you will receive instructions concerning payment of initiation and first year’s membership
dues. You will also be asked to complete an application for membership form.

Deadlines related to certification requirement documentation submission are listed below. Extensions will not be permitted. If required
documentation is received after the deadlines, the application for membership will be delayed until the next available session.
