NATURE OF DATA
What new kind of local knowledge can we gather? (local economical information, e
tnicity, land used/category/owernship)
Framework:
- Category of data,+ data
- Context of usage (+importance 1-4 in this context),
- Source
Category:
What kind of information are status
(no, lacking, outdated)
- xxxx baseline data (adminsitrative region, residential area)
For each categories
The goal for this draft is for me to :
1/understand the nature of the data that are commonly missing and that could be
annotated by digital volunteers and local volunteers/UN Staff
2/Beyond traditional baseline data, investigate new opportunities to collect (an
d valid) new kind of data for humanitarian crisis and development purpose via su
ch volunteer mapping approach.
I quickly started to list some area of geographical related aspect and all the d
ata , their status or potential, their context of use
Complete the unit data rate the potential value of such information (if it depen
ds on the context , indicate in which case the data are very relevant or no rele
vant)
Let's start by understanding the different dimension of geographical data
- Baseline data / Urbanism (road, school, hospital)
- Cultural Geography (ethnicity , local communities, pakastan)
- Health (capacity of hospitals, epidemia spreading)
- Agriculture/land (land cover, land used by category, ownership e.g. public/com
mercial)
- Environmental (natural resources related data)
- Economical Geography (village/area as hub for commerce)
natural hazard earthquake, tropical cyclones)
issues: lack of accuracy (hostipal)
- Assessing destruction
Quality data
Who?
new kind of organisation between people?
- expertise assessing destruction
- volunteer for work (health) , and (eathquake)
- machine (not mature technology to asset building destruction , flood), Depen
ding the nature of the dommage
* Semi-automatic :floods; landslide)
* no interesting to use machine: Earthquake, tropical cyclone,

INNOVATION
- Temporal dimension
- Commons Management: Pluriliste view between different stakeholders (multi trus
t / Versionning (can use incorporated Git/SVN/CVS version for maps. versioning o
nly a subset of a map))
