~ IN THE GALLERY ~
“Members Exhibit through Jan 28”
Southern Arts Society members have artwork on
exhibit and for sale in the gift shop and gallery.
Everything is “cash and carry” to suit your holiday
shopping needs. Our 2011 hand printed calendars
“Myths and Legends” have been selling briskly, but
we do have a few left. Calendars $20, Frames $25.
NEW GALLERY EXHIBITS
Lori Lytle and James Norman
Lori Lytle and James Norman will fill the gallery
with new works starting January 30 through March
12. Lori works primarily in acrylics and mixed
media, abstracting known forms into varying degrees
of recognition. James paints in oils with a more
representational style. Both painters use strong
colors, bold compositions and a lot of surface texture
in their work – but with very discernible results.
Opening reception will be early February.
Earth and Fire
March 20 through April 29 will feature local potters
displaying and selling work. This is an open show of
regional artists working in clay – from traditional
forms to creative art pieces – all available for sale
(cash and carry). Prospectus will be available online.
Would You Like to Teach?
Southern Arts Society is looking for teachers for art
classes or workshops in any media. We have a large
class space with tables, chairs, work sink and ample
lighting. Call 704-739-5585 to schedule your class.
2011 Dues
Membership dues are payable January 1st each year.
Please bring payment to the members meeting on
January 4. We will have new membership forms to
update our files with your current information.
Southern Art Society has increased our Individual
Membership from $20 to $25 and the Family
Membership from $30 to $35. The increased fee will
be used for facility improvements and to bring you
more classes and programs.
Raffle Winner and New Raffle
During our November Open House Audrey Brooks had
the winning ticket for “A Long Time Coming”, a print
donated by SASI artist Lorene Lovell.
New raffle – 42” TV – tickets $1, drawing March 1st.
Stolen Artwork
James Norman has lost a storage building of his
paintings to thieves. Please call local police or James
if you see any of his work in flea markets or pawn
shops or anyone unauthorized to sell his work.
~ PROGRAMS ~
Southern Arts Society – Tues. Jan 4
To start off the New Year, we will elect new
officers for 2011: President Bernice Chappell, V.
President Camiel Bradshaw, Secretary Kathy Pope
and Treasurer Johnsie Reavis. Nominations may be
made from the floor. We will also discuss
themes for the 2012 Calendars. Bring ideas!
Then artist Chris Tessnear will show us how to
create folded journals. Bring your supplies and
work along with her to make this personal journal
to use or make a gift for someone special.
MATERIALS: 4 pieces of 8x8 inch paper (scrap,
cardstock, anything sturdy); Glue stick, double stick
tape or favorite paper adhesive; Ruler and/or bone
folder; 12 inch scrap of ribbon.
Optional: Two 4x4 inch squares of matboard and
paper to cover them (for durable covers for your
journal) Embellishments: stickers, pens, paint, collage
materials

Shutter Light Group – Tues. January 18
(The photography club of Southern Arts Society)
The Shutter Light Group voted at the
December meeting to change its meeting day
to the Third Tuesday each month. Tom Pacheco
was elected to remain as president of the photo
club for the 2011 calendar year.
The photo assignment for the January meeting is
"Holidays". Bring your images and the technical info
for them for discussion. The meeting itself will be
"More HDR and Photoshop". Everyone come
prepared to share a Photoshop tip or two.
