Pollution

There are different types of pollution, but there is one definition,

which covers all forms:
1. The act or process of polluting or the state of being polluted,
especially the contamination of soil, water, or the atmosphere by
the discharge of harmful substances.
2. Something that pollutes; a pollutant or a group of pollutants:
Pollution in the air reduced the visibility near the airport.

Different Types
---------------
The four main types of pollution are noise, air, land and water.

Air Pollution
Air pollution is the introduction of chemicals, particulate matter, or biologica
l materials that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, o
r cause damage to the natural environment or built environment, into the atmosph
ere.
The atmosphere is a complex dynamic natural gaseous system that is essential to
support life on planet Earth. Stratospheric ozone depletion due to air pollution
has long been recognized as a threat to human health as well as to the Earth's
ecosystems.

Noise Pollution
Noise pollution is excessive, displeasing human, animal or machine-created envir
onmental noise that disrupts the activity or balance of human or animal life. Th
e word noise comes from the Latin word nauseas, meaning seasickness.
The source of most outdoor noise worldwide is mainly construction and transporta
tion systems, including motor vehicle noise, aircraft noise and rail noise.Poor
urban planning may give rise to noise pollution, since side-by-side industrial a
nd residential buildings can result in noise pollution in the residential area.
Indoor and outdoor noise pollution sources include car alarms, emergency service
sirens, mechanical equipment, fireworks, compressed air horns, groundskeeping e
quipment, barking dogs, appliances, lighting hum, audio entertainment systems, e
lectric megaphones, and loud people.
Water Pollution
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans
and groundwater).
Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water; an
d, in almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and
populations, but also to the natural biological communities.
Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly int
o water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.
Land Pollution
Land pollution is the degradation of Earth's land surfaces often caused by human
activities and their misuse of land resources. It occurs when waste is not disp
osed properly. Health hazard disposal of urban and industrial wastes, exploitati
on of minerals, and improper use of soil by inadequate agricultural practices ar
e a few factors. Urbanization and industrialization are major causes of land pol
lution. The Industrial Revolution set a series of events into motion which destr
oyed natural habitats and polluted the environment, causing diseases in both hum
ans and other species of animals.

2. Does pollution affest your health?
