Answers to M1 A level questions Edexcel Past papers

Much of what you learn in M1 is technique – how to solve problems and how to tackle A level questions.
Success in any technique comes with practice, so try as many questions from A level papers as you can –
practice, practice, practice….
These answers on their own won’t get you full marks. Indeed you get most of your marks for showing good
clear working following the principles of Mechanics that you have learned.
Use these answers to check your working. If you get the right answer then you have probably used the right
thinking, and if you lay your working out clearly you should get full marks. If you don’t get the right answer,
look carefully for your mistake – that in itself is a valuable learning exercise. If you still cannot find your
mistake, talk it over with your colleagues and/or ask your teacher – who will be happy to help you out!

Key:
m distance in metres km distance in kilometres kg mass in kilograms
ms-1 speed in metres per second ms-2 acceleration in metres per square second
N force in Newtons Ns impulse in Newton seconds
g acceleration due to gravity (9.8 ms-2). In Mechanics g does NOT mean grams!!!
