Confirm that caches are DISABLED and ZEROED by using Navisphere CLI to check cache status.
Use the CLI command: navicli –h <hostname> getcache
Ensure that all caching statuses from the CLI state are DISABLED and that all cache sizes are 0MB
before continuing.
Use the Navisphere GUI or enter the following CLI command to verify if cache is disabled:
navicli –h <hostname> getcache
Trouble shooting :
In case cache status hadn’t been changed to disable using the Navisphere use the following CLI
commands to force the clariion switching to that state .
(*) Execute the following commands from the navicli home directory .
3. Mark or label each cable to ensure that you correctly connect the replacement storage processor. Do
not disconnect cables yet.
5. Use the handles to disengage the storage processor module from its slot.
6. Remove the cables attached to the SP. Gently release the connectors as you remove the optical,
copper, LAN, and SPS cables from the SP.
At this stage the Navisphere window will show the following status :
WARNING: Danger of explosion if the lithium battery on the storage processor board is incorrectly
replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by the equipment
manufacturer. Discard used batteries according to local ordinance and manufacturer's instructions.
NOTE: Check the back of the new SP for plastic connector covers. Failure to remove these covers
will bend pins if the SP is forcefully seated. This will require the SPE or DPE chassis to be replaced.
2. Align the storage processor module with the guides on the side of the enclosure. Gently slide the SP
into the enclosure but do not engage it to the midplane yet.
3. Reinstall all cables (including backend) to the new SP except the front-end optical or ISCSI cables.
5. Turn the latches on either side of the SP module to the secure position.
NOTE: The storage processor latches hold the module in an established position. They do not pull or
otherwise help to seat the SP.
CAUTION: Depending on the system’s state and configuration, it may take several minutes to boot
and integrate the new SP. Monitor the process patiently and pay particular attention to the SP fault
LED codes.
The SP will go through its normal power up sequence of POST tests through OS boot. When the SP
has fully booted, the boot LED will extinguish from a 4hz blink rate.
8. Re-enable caches and set to prior settings (cache size as been observed at paragraph 1.6.1.2) by
executing the following command from the navicli directory :
9. Using Navisphere, confirm that all LUNs are again under the control of their default SP owner.
If not, wait a few minutes and check again.
The Trespassed Luns window should be empty . In case the window is not empty as in the example
above perform the following actions to trespass the luns back to their owner SP .
1. PowerPath should automatically trespass LUNs to the owning SP when the replaced SP is again
available for use.
Verify that all LUNs are under correct SP ownership by clicking on Tools → Trespassed LUN Status
from the main menu in Navisphere Manager. If any LUNs which are accessible by attached servers
are still trespassed, they will be in this table.
2. If there are still LUNs in the trespassed state (not under control of the default SP owner) after 15
minutes, have the customer issue the following command from the server running PowerPath with
trespassed LUNs:

4. If LUNs from some attached server remain in the trespassed state while other do not, this must be
addressed separately from this procedure. It is unlikely that the SP is faulty if it is currently
controlling some LUNs.
Follow the procedure in 1.5 section and verify the functionality of the CMD
2 Responsibility
Comverse:
• Job documents preparation, support and integration phases: Systems Engineer.
• Job implementation assurance: Customer Support Manager.
• Coordination and customer contacts: Project Manager.
Customer:
• Assurance of the availability of the auxiliary resources (phone lines, fax, test equipment, etc.) during the
installation.
• Review and approval of SOW.
3 Reporting Requirements
• After each phase there should be a meeting with the customer and a document should be signed confirming
phase implementation.
• Any outstanding problem should be documented:
• Help Desk Tickets
4 Follow-up Requirements
• Comverse takes any corrective actions needed on all outstanding problems.
• Comverse/Customer continues to monitor system performance.
It is recommended that you should have the generated report handy for reference upon request. The
contained information is useful for audits, hardware/software configuration reference, and
troubleshooting.
a. If necessary, create a new directory folder on your service laptop that will be used
to hold the generated configuration reports.
For example:
navicli -h 10.11.22.333 getall > c:\log.txt
This command will generate a current configuration report of the CLARiiON and all
attached hosts and send the report with the specified file name to the directory.
1. Handling FRUs
This section describes the precautions that you must take and the general procedures you must follow
when removing, installing, and storing FRUs.
• While the Clariion is powered up, you can service or replace any FRU, although
removing an active SP will affect operating system access to the disks it controls. You
should not remove a faulty FRU until you have a replacement available.
• Since you can replace or add any FRU without sliding the enclosure out of the
cabinet, you do not have to use cabinet anti-tip devices when you upgrade or service a
Clariion.
• If you need to power down a Clariion, first stop I/O to the storage processors. For
systems using ac power, shut off power to each SPS and then, if necessary, power/cooling
module B. For systems with dc power, turn off power using the ON/OFF toggle switch
on dc power/cooling modules. You do not need to shut down main power lines to the
disk enclosure unless you need to power down all the cabinet/rack contents connected to
that line.
CAUTION: Never shut off or disconnect an SPS-connected power/cooling module to shut down a
Clariion. Bypassing the SPS in that manner prevents the system from saving write cache data to the
vault drives and results in data loss. You lose access to data and the storage processor event log
displays an error message similar to the following:
When you replace or install FRUs, you can inadvertently damage the sensitive electronic circuits in
the equipment by simply touching them. Electrostatic charge that has accumulated on your body
discharges through the circuits. If the air in the work area is very dry, running a humidifier in the work
area will help decrease the risk of ESD damage. You must follow the procedures below to prevent
damage to the equipment.
Read and understand the following instructions:
• Provide enough room to work on the equipment. Clear the work site of any unnecessary
materials or materials that naturally build up electrostatic charge, such as foam
packaging, foam cups, cellophane wrappers, and similar items.
• Do not remove replacement or upgrade FRUs from their antistatic packaging until you
are ready to install them.
• Gather together the ESD kit and all other materials you will need before you service an

enclosure. Once servicing begins, you should avoid moving away from the work site;
otherwise, you may build up an electrostatic charge.
• An ESD wristband is supplied with your disk enclosure. To use it, attach the clip of the
ESD wristband (strap) to any bare (unpainted) metal on the disk enclosure; then put the
wristband around your wrist with the metal button against your skin.
• Use the ESD kit when handling any FRU. If an emergency arises and the ESD kit is not
available, follow the procedures in the Emergency Procedures (Without an ESD Kit)
section that follows next.
In an emergency when an ESD kit is not available, use the following procedures to reduce the
possibility of an electrostatic discharge by ensuring that your body and the subassembly are at the
same electrostatic potential.
These procedures are not a substitute for the use of an ESD kit. Follow them only in the event of an
emergency.
• Before touching any FRU, touch a bare (unpainted) metal surface of the cabinet or
enclosure.
• Before removing any FRU from its antistatic bag, place one hand firmly on a bare metal
surface of the enclosure, and at the same time, pick up the FRU while it is still sealed in
the antistatic bag. Once you have done this, do not move around the room or touch other
furnishings, personnel, or surfaces until you have installed the FRU.
• When you remove a FRU from the antistatic bag, avoid touching any electronic
components and circuits on it.
• If you must move around the room or touch other surfaces before installing a FRU, first
place the FRU back in the antistatic bag. When you are ready again to install the FRU,
repeat these steps.
