INTRODUÇÃO
Um dos principais fatores para se adquirir fluência em inglês é ter um bom
vocabulário. Em geral quanto mais palavras você souber, maior será a facilidade em
se comunicar.

O processo total da comunicação envolve falar, ler, escrever e entender a


palavra falada ou escrita. Destes, entender o que se lê é o mais fácil, obviamente
para alguém que já é alfabetizado.

Isso porque o idioma inglês tem uma série de palavras muito semelhantes ao
português e ainda outras de fácil dedução do seu significado.

Juntando a isso as 1000 palavras mais utilizadas no idioma inglês, você


entenderá quase 100% do que ler!

Isso pode ser obtido num curto período de tempo como veremos mais para
frente.

A Origem das 1000 palavras mais comuns em inglês
A Universidade de Oxford digitalizou, transformou em textos para
computador, milhares de livros, revistas, jornais e textos da Internet. Após isso,
separou todas frases em palavras, o que somou mais de 1 bilhão de palavras.
Através de um programa agrupou-se todas as palavras iguais bem como a
quantidade de vezes que essa palavra ocorria nos textos.

Assim, soube-se em média, quais as palavras mais comuns, com mais


ocorrência na língua inglesa.

O espantoso foi descobrir que as 1000 palavras mais comuns representavam


mais de 90% de todas as palavras compiladas pelo programa.

Disponibilizamos essas palavras para você com seu significado, sua


pronúncia e sua utilização dentro de um contexto.

Se você colocar um certo esforço em aprendê-las, dedicando alguns minutos


por dia, te garanto que seu entendimento na leitura vai melhorar muito.

Como estudar as 1000 palavras
Depois que você conhecer as 1000 palavras mais comuns da língua inglesa
você poderá verificar como o aprendizado da leitura da língua inglesa se torna muito
mais fácil e inteligível.

Para ajudá-lo a organizar seu estudo, sugiro que você estude 10 palavras por
dia. Isso deve demorar de 15 a 30 minutos, dependendo do estudante. Assim, em
100 dias de estudo você terá adquirido uma incrível compreensão do idioma escrito.

Minha sugestão de estudo é:

Se puder, imprima o livro. Se não puder imprimi-lo, salve-o como texto, assim
você poderá escrever nele. Tenha também um caderno à mão para anotações
voluntárias e sugeridas.

1) Escolha as 10 palavras do dia. (A partir do segundo dia revise as 10 palavras


que você estudou no dia anterior).
2) Leia as palavras. Note como são escritas. Se puder as escreva no seu
caderno.
3) Ouça a pronúncia de cada uma clicando duas vezes sobre o ícone de som e
tente repetir o som que ouviu.
4) Ouça novamente e escreva o fonético da palavra em seu caderno. Por
exemplo, para a palavra ABLE escreva /êibôl/. Procure não se ater como o
fonético foi escrito no livro, desenvolva seu próprio modelo conforme você
ouviu.
5) Veja o significado da palavra em português, caso ainda não a conheça.
6) Veja a utilização contextual dessa palavra na frase que demos como
exemplo.
7) Se puder, usando um computador, copie essa frase, cole no Google tradutor,
ouça a sua pronúncia e tente repetir o que ouviu.
8) Ainda usando o Google tradutor, veja a tradução aproximada da frase, assim
indiretamente você assimilará mais algum vocabulário que não conhece.
9) No início, tente escrever uma frase em seu caderno, diferente da sugerida no
livro, mesmo que simples, utilizando cada uma das palavras estudadas. Por
exemplo I LOVE YOU, quando estiver estudando a palavra LOVE.
10) E por fim, deixei o mais importante que é uma técnica para assimilar e
memorizar a lista das 1000 palavras. Essa técnica se chama associação
mnemônica.

Associação Mnemônica

Associação mnemônica consiste em você associar uma palavra em inglês a


uma imagem ou a outra palavra no seu idioma nativo, no nosso caso em português.

Você pode, por exemplo, escrever uma frase onde a palavra em inglês e o
seu significado em português sejam usados dentro do mesmo contexto.

Essa associação deve, na maioria dos casos, ter algum impacto emocional.
Pode ser engraçada, triste, ridícula, nojenta, etc. Quanto mais absurda for a
associação, maior será a facilidade de retenção dela.

Procure, de preferência, fazer a associação com a pronúncia da palavra, mas


às vezes vale fazer com a forma escrita também.

Vou dar alguns exemplos para te ensinar a fazer isso, pegando algumas
palavras da lista que iniciam com a letra A, e as utilizando com outra em português.

AGE – pronúncia aproximada /eidj/, significado: idade


Na IDADE certa AGE (hei de) encontrar minha alma gêmea.

ALLOW – pronúncia aproximada /aláu/, significado: permitir


ALLOW (olha lá o) o professor que PERMITE consulta na prova.

AGREE – pronúncia aproximada /agri/, significado: concordar


Nossa que milAGREE (milagre), você CONCORDAR comigo!

APPLE – pronúncia aproximada /épol/, significado: maçã.


Com a fome que estou uma MAÇÃ APPLEco (é pouco).

Outro tipo de exemplo de mnemônico é criar uma imagem mental para a palavra,
conforme exemplo a seguir.

ALWAYS – pronúncia aproximada /ól ueiz/, significado: sempre.


Imagine que você namora uma moça, mas SEMPRE que você sai com ela vocês
cruzam com o ex-namorado dela, e quando você o vê, logo vem a sua mente
– “Ó o ex (/olha o ex/ always) dela SEMPRE cruzando nosso caminho.”

AFTER – pronúncia aproximada /áfter/, significado: depois


Imagine sua boca cheia de AFTER (afta) DEPOIS de comer abacaxi.

Com o tempo e com a prática você verá que vai ficar cada vez mais fácil criar
mnemônicos o que te auxiliará muito a assimilar mais e mais vocabulário.
