ComputaMaps Data (www.computamaps.

com)

Programs Affected: All Programs

The free terrain and clutter data found on the Computamaps.com website is
compatible with EDX software. Here is how to use the data:

Terrain Elevation (DTM) Data

In the EDX Databases -> Terrain dialog set the database type to "MSI-Planet".
The data location is the DTM folder that was created when you unZIPped the file
from Computamaps. The DTM folder will contain three files:

• the binary data grid file (example: "10s_dtm")

• "projection"
• "index"

If you wish to use two or more Planet terrain height data files at the same time
you first need to convert them to the EDX 201 format using the EDXCV
conversion utility. The conversion type is for Terrain data and "MSI-Planet to
EDX 201". Enter the appropriate parameters into the "Geographic parameters"
dialog:

• Transverse Mercator projection

• ref longitude is the second number in the fourth line of the "projection" file.
If this line does not exist the ref longitude can be calculated from the UTM
zone number as follows: ref_long = Zone_number * 6.0 - 180.0 - 3.0
• ref latitude, standard parallel 1 and 2 are always 0
• scale compression is 0.9996
• false easting is 500000
• false northing is 0 for data North of the equator and 10000000 for South of
the equator
• major axis is 6378137
• flattening is 0.003352811
• datum x,y,z shifts are all 0

Once you have your 201 files, they should all be put in one folder on your hard
drive and then use the "EDX Universal 201" terrain database type in the
Databases/Terrain dialog.
Clutter Data

Clutter Data found in the CLT or Clutter folder is loaded into the EDX program in
the same way as the terrain data above except that the database type and
location of the clutter data is made in the Databases -> Clutter dialog. The
Clutter folder should contain four files:

• the binary data grid file (example: "10s_clt")

• "projection"
• "index"
• "menu"

In many cases the "clutter" folder might not contain a "projection" file. If so, then
copy the "projection" file that is found in the "DTM" or "Heights" folder.

The "groudcover attenuation file" that is specified in the EDX program Databases
-> Clutter needs to be edited to correspond with the clutter types found the Planet
"menu" file.

As with terrain/height data, if you want to use two or more clutter data files at the
same time you need to convert them to the EDX .GCV format using the EDXCV
conversion utility. The conversion type is for Land Use data and "MSI-Planet
format to EDX GCV". You need to enter the appropriate parameters into the
"Geographic parameters" dialog as described above. Once you have your GCV
files, they should all be put in one folder on your hard drive and then use the
"EDX .GCV format" type in the Databases -> Land Use.
