Writing a Job Posting
The job posting should be 4-5 sentences, which give a snapshot of the congregation and
of the qualifications that are required for the youth ministry position. A church should
also try to sell itself and its community, giving details on why one would want to live
there. It should pique interest, not say it all.
Read through the samples below. Consider what information about your church and the
position you want to include. Then consider what details should come first (i.e., location,
size, theology, congregational culture, priorities, responsibilities) Cut and paste. Cross
out and add your own thoughts!
Sample 1
A 2,100-member congregation is seeking an energetic and creative fulltime Director for
Youth Ministries to serve a well-established Presbyterian church in Highland/Forest Park
area of Birmingham, Alabama. This person will be responsible for creating a program
that will inspire and launch discipleship for youth, commitment and trust with parents,
and training and equipping for volunteers.
Qualifications for this position include a strong personal faith consistent with confessions
of the Presbyterian Church (USA), as well as strong teaching, relational, and
organizational skills. Interested candidates should have a college degree and some

Sample 2
INDEPENDENT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, a well-established, traditional Presbyterian
church in Birmingham, Alabama, is looking for a full-time Director of Youth Ministries.
The Director will build upon and strengthen a youth program which currently involves
about 60 youth who participate in Sunday school, Wednesday evening bible study, youth
group, confirmation class, youth choir or the acolyte program. The Director will work
with a staff of an Assistant Director of Youth Ministries and an Administrative Assistant.
Our candidate will need to bring high levels of passion and energy for undergirding the
many different aspects of our churchs ministry to youth. Our hope is to find a Director
who, in addition to programming, can build a team volunteers that can work within a
unified vision. Interested candidates for this position should be well versed in the

Sample 3
We are seeking a full-time Director for Youth Ministries for our 2100-member
Presbyterian church in Birmingham, AL. This person will build a team of parents,
volunteers and paid staff to create an exciting and welcoming faith community where
youth can build relationships with other youth and their families and nurture their
relationship with Christ
The Director must have at least a college degree. He or she will be responsible for
guiding the implementation of the vision and goals set forth by the congregation for the
youth program. Interested candidates should be well versed in the Presbyterian tradition.

A well-established Presbyterian church committed to discipleship and growth is seeking a
full time Director of Youth Ministries. Independence Presbyterian Church, a 2100member congregation located in Birmingham, AL is committed to its youth and is

have at least 5 years experience in youth ministry leadership, will build a team of parents,
volunteers and paid staff to create an exciting and welcoming faith community.

60 active youth, the Director will be responsible for leading and expanding a program
that will inspire and launch discipleship for youth, commitment and trust with parents,
and dedicated involvement for adult volunteers. Through such a program, the Director
will lead IPCs efforts to create a nurturing and welcoming faith community where youth
can build relationships with other youth and their families, strengthen their relationships
with Christ, and participate fully in a Spirit-led, mission-oriented church. The Youth

The successful candidate will have a college degree, experience in youth ministry
leadership and strong personal faith consistent with the Reformed tradition. He or she
