Before Memorial Day was known by its traditional name, it was called Decoration Day.

The original ceremony took place at 10 a.m. in Mound Cemetery, Charleston. Also among area events to
honor veterans on this Memorial Day weekend, Charleston VFW Post 1592 and Ladies Auxiliary conducted
observances in Charleston and Ashmore.
