Expressing
opinions

When we are negotiating, expressing opinions or simply chatting with a friend, we often have to
agree or disagree with the other people. We must know how to show empathy with different opinions
and also disagree without sounding aggressive. We need to express our opinions and, at the same
time, show that we are listening, understanding and appreciating the other opinions. If the other
people feel comfortable, they will be more open to our ideas, opinions or suggestions. Here there are
some opinion phrases.

Neutral Opinion: Strong Opinion

In my opinion... I’m absolutely convinced that…

In my experience… I’m sure that…
Speaking for myself… I strongly believe that…
I think... I have no doubt that…
I believe that…
I really feel that… Explaining things better
If you ask me…
As far as I am concerned … What I mean is…
From my point of view… What I’m trying to say is that…

It is always a good idea to justify your opinions; don’t just say 'I agree' or 'I disagree', but say 'I agree
because I think that ... (explain your reason)', etc.

A) Think about teamwork and about your personality, and then imagine that you have already
finished your studies (Piensa en trabajo en equipo y en tu personalidad, e imagina que ya has
terminado tus estudios).
B) Read these job advertisements and choose the job that best suits you, and the one that least
suits you, giving reasons for your selections. (Lee estos anuncios de trabajo y elige dos
empleos, el que más y el que menos se adapta a ti, explicando las razones).

A) I imagine myself as an electrician and leader of a team because I think I’m demanding with my own
work and with the others, I like things well done but I know that for that to happen the leader must
be involved and willing to give everything for his team in addition to maintaining high morale and
support when there are complications besides knowing how to act as mediator if some conflict
between the team members. Also to be critical with the work but if it is well done to give the
congratulations and not to assume for itself the credit and achievements of the group work, the
leader is a member of the group like all the others only he has a greater responsibility and I am
willing to take that responsibility.

B) The work that best suits me is a writer because I love to read and at some point in my life I thought
about becoming a writer but I found another passion that is eletricity although I still love to read.

The work that is least suitable for me is that of sports instructor because although I practice some I
do not see in a future exerting some prophecies related to sports.
