Walk through the installation and configuration of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

5. Purpose of Hands-on Lab

Learn about the installation and configuration options available in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
such as installing a new farm, configuring global workflow settings, configuring incoming e-mail,
administrative tasks, farm topology and provisioning new web applications.

6. Pre-Lab Setup

In order to save time some of the installation steps have been pre-completed for this lab. The complete
installation can take up to 2 hours. The steps taken are detailed below to give you an idea of what is
required to install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

Installation Step 1 – Getting Started with Windows

Installation Step 2 – Using the Microsoft
SharePoint Products and Technologies
Configuration Wizard

This exercise will take you through the initial


configuration of a new SharePoint farm.

Run the configuration wizard. • The Welcome screen will appear, click Next to continue.
• An information dialog box will appear explaining the services that will be affected by the configuration

• Select No, I want to create a new server farm and then click Next.

• The Configuration Database Settings page will appear. Fill in the page using the following
information and then click Next:
o Database server: moss
o Database name: SharePoint_Config
o Username: LITWAREINC\administrator
o Password: pass@word1
Note: In a production environment, creating a different user to manage the SharePoint
database connections is recommended.

• The Central Administration Web Application Configuration page will appear.
• (Optional) Check the Specify port number box and enter the desired port number.
• Click Next to continue.

• The Completing SharePoint Configuration page will appear. Click Next to continue.

• The Configuring SharePoint Products and Technologies page will appear and using the
information supplied, 9 tasks will be completed. Some steps will take several minutes each, please be
patient.

• The Configuration Successful page will appear. Click Finish to launch into the Central
Administration homepage.

Exercise 1 – Windows SharePoint Services Central Administration –


The Home Page

This exercise will highlight the new layout of the Central Administrator site
and the new configuration options that are available.

Administrative Tasks • Login using the following credentials:

• Click on Close to return to the Home page.

Farm Topology

The Home tab also contains the Farm Topology which will show a list of all
of the servers in the SharePoint farm and a list of the services running on
them.

• Click on the server listed in the Farm Topology list. The Services on
Server page appears.
• The Services on Server page allows you to start and stop services on the
servers in the farm from one central location.

Exercise 2 – Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Central Administration –
The Application Management page

This page contains links to pages that help you configure settings for
applications and components that are installed on the server or server farm.

Provisioning a new Web Application • Click on the Application Management tab in the top navigation

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 gives you the option to provision a new
web application from within the Central Administration pages. This allows a
SharePoint administrator to work through the Central Administration pages
without needing to login to the server to make updates.

• Click on Create or extend Web application. The Create or Extend Web


Application page should appear.
• Click on Create a new Web application. The Create New Web
Application page should appear.
• Fill in the Create New Web Application form with the following information
o IIS Web Site:
 Select Create a new IIS web site
 Description: Keep the default value
 Port: 80
 Host Header: Leave this empty
 Path: Keep the default value
o Security Configuration
 Authentication Provider: NTLM

 Allow Anonymous: No
 Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL): No
o Load Balanced URL
 URL: http://moss
 Zone: Keep the default value.
o Application Pool:
 Create new application pool.
 Application pool name: Keep the default value
 Select Configurable and use the following values:
• User name: LITWAREINC\administrator
• Password: pass@word1
(Note: In a production environment, creating a separate
application pool account is recommended.)
o Leave the rest of the items with their default values
• Click Ok. The Operation in Progress page will appear and run for a few
minutes.

• After the Operation completes, the Application Created page will appear.
Click on the Create Site Collection link.

Create a new Site Collection • The Create Site Collection page will appear. Fill in the form with the
following information:
o Web Application: Keep the default value
o Title: HOL Install and Config
o Description: Hands on Lab for installation and configuration
o Web Site Address: /

o Template selection: Keep the default value
o Primary Site Collection Administrator:
LITWAREINC\administrator
o Quota Template: Keep the default value
• Click OK to create your site collection; the Operation in Progress page will
appear for a few moments.
• After the operation completes, you will be notified that your top-level site
collection has been created. Click OK to continue.

Configuring Workflow • Click on the Workflow settings link at the bottom of the Application
Management page.
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 integrates workflow into the platform. The • Click Cancel to return to the Application Management page.

The Workflow Settings page allows you to determine if:


• User-defined workflows are permitted (Ex: SharePoint Designer
no-code workflows)
• Users without site access are permitted for workflows

application

Exercise 3 – Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Central Administration –


Operations page

This page contains links to pages that help you manage your server or server
farm, such as changing the server farm topology, specifying which services
are running on each server and changing settings that affect multiple servers
or applications.

Configuring the SharePoint administrator’s group • Click on the Operations tab from the top navigation.

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 allows the SharePoint administrator to


define a group of administrators that will have access to the SharePoint Farm
administration. This gives the SharePoint administrator the ability to ensure a
secure environment and prevent all server administrators from having full
privileges to data contained in a SharePoint site.

• Click on the Update farm administrator’s group link under Security

Configuration. The People and Groups: Farm Administrators page
appears.

• The Farm Administrators page shows the current membership of the


SharePoint Farm Administrators group. Click New ->Add Users.

• The Add Users page will appear.


• Enter phyllis in the Users/Groups field and press Enter.
• Double click the user result that is returned and choose Phyllis Harris to
populate the Users box with your selection.
• Click OK to add this user to the SharePoint administrator’s group
• Click on the Operations tab to return to the Operations page

Incoming e-mail settings • Click on the Incoming e-mail settings link under Topology and Services.
The Incoming E-Mail Settings page will appear.
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 allows e-mail to be sent to SharePoint
sites and stores incoming messages in lists. This allows archiving of
discussion groups as well as giving users a fast and convenient way to share
files in SharePoint sites.

• This page allows an administrator to enable or disable incoming e-mail to
SharePoint lists. This setting affects the entire farm, adding or removing the
ability to enable or disable this at a list, site, or site collection level.
• In order to enable incoming e-mail on the farm select the Yes option in the
Enable Incoming E-Mail section.

• Click OK to save your configuration change.


• Enter http://moss/ in the Address field in Internet Explorer and press the
Enter key.
• The HOL Install and Config site will appear.
• Click on the Announcements link on this page and the Announcements
list view page will appear.

• Click on the Settings  List Settings and the Customize


Announcements page will appear.

• Click on the Incoming e-mail settings link in the Communications
section. The Incoming E-Mail Settings: Announcements page will
appear.

• Select Yes in the Allow this list to receive e-mail section and enter
announce in the E-mail address text box. .

• Choose Accept e-mail messages from any sender in the E-Mail Security
section.

• Click OK to save these changes.
• Click on Start  All Programs  Outlook Express to open the mail
client.
• Ignore the error message about the missing POP3 server.
• Expand Local Folders and click on the Drafts folder.
• There will be a draft email in the Drafts folder, Double click on this email
and click on the Send button.
• Close Outlook Express.
• Return to the browser and click on Announcements in the site breadcrumb
to return to the Announcements list.
• The e-mail may take up to 5 minutes to process. It will be added to the
Announcements list once complete. While waiting you can see the e-mail
queue in C:\Inetpub\mailroot\Drop. The message has been processed
when this folder is empty.
• Click on Weekly status announcement - notice the text formatting is
maintained.
