Applying for exemptions

We will confirm your exemptions when you have registered with CIMA and paid your registration
and subscription fees.

Follow these steps to register as a CIMA student and apply for exemptions. Please note that
special arrangements apply to AAT students, ICWAI and ICMAP members and MBA holders.

1. Register
See our checklist before registering as a CIMA student.

2. Check if you are eligible for any exemptions

Use our exemptions search to find out whether you are entitled to any exemptions from CIMA's
exams. You may be entitled to some exemptions even if your qualification is not on our database.

3. Read our exemptions policy

Our exemptions policy will give you important information about exemptions requirements and
the exemptions process.

4. Send your documents

You must send us copies of your highest level educational certificates and transcripts. These must
include details of the subjects you studied and the marks you achieved.

All certificates and transcripts must be in English. If your documents were not issued in English,
please have them translated and certified as 'An accurate translation of the original' by someone
who is fluent in both languages. Please then send your original language documents and your
certified translations to us.

Please do not send us original documents as we cannot guarantee that these will be returned
to you.

Send your documents to us by fax at +44 (0) 870 787 9408 or email them to
documents@cimaglobal.com

5. Confirm we have received your documents

Once we have received your documents, we will email you within 72 hours to confirm receipt. If
you faxed your documents to us and don't receive confirmation in this time, please assume we
have not received your fax and resend your documentation.

We do not send confirmation of receipt at weekends or on bank holidays, so please factor this time
in when waiting to hear from us and resending documents.

6. Our decision
When we have assessed your documents, we will email you with details of any exemptions
awarded or any further information required. If you have been awarded exemptions, we will also

post you details of your exemptions and your exemption fees. You will also be able to view these
in your MY CIMA account.

You should allow 20 days for this assessment to be completed.

7. Accept or decline your exemptions

If you have been awarded exemptions, you need to be confident that you could have successfully
passed any exams that you may be exempt from, since the material will be built upon in the later
stages of the qualification.

If you want to accept your exemptions, you must make sure you pay your exemption fees within
eight weeks of receiving your exemptions. Once you have paid for your exemptions we will only
be able to refund your money in exceptional circumstances and during the three months following
your payment. No refund will be offered if you paid for your exemptions more than three months
ago.

If you choose to decline your exemptions, visit declining exemptions to find out what you need to
do.

8. Wait for written confirmation

Please wait until you have received confirmation of your exemptions before you sign up for any
CIMA tuition courses.

If you learn that you are exempt from an exam after signing up for a course, we will not accept
liability for any course fees.
