2.2 INTRODUCTION

 Bhusaval Division with its geographic location is the fulcrum of Railway

operation on Central Railway. It has 742.71 route Kms on Broad Gauge and 243.90
route Kms on Narrow Gauge.
 Bhusaval division is one of the most critically located division in Central
Railway, whose performance makes a decisive impact on the loading of adjacent
divisions and helps them to fulfill their loading targets and interchange forecast made to
adjoining railways.
 Bhusaval division which used to be an unloading and through traffic division, is now
known as a loading division for POL, perishable traffic of Onions, Raw Plantain, Grapes,
DOC, Grain and pulses. Timely catering to the demands of farmers and traders in the above
traffic has led to the dramatic increase in the loading performance of the Division as well as
in the socio-economic status of Khandesh and Nasik region. It has proven the superiority of
railways in catering to Perishable as well as non-Perishable traffic over other modes of
transportation.
 Bhusawal division acts as a feeding point for empty N-BOXES to collieries situated
in NGP Division and South-Eastern Railway as well as empty jumbos required in Mumbai
Division on Central Railway, Bhopal and Jabalpur Division on WCRly and Western
Railway, besides meeting its own demands of oil-tanks at Panevadi Oil siding and jumbos
for raw plantain, perishables and other Outward traffic.
 Bhusawal Division has to function as a buffer division requiring to hold back the
traffic not accepted by the adjoining divisions in an eventuality of any operational
problems & bottlenecks.
 Bhusawal Division has undulating gradient in all the sections. Loaded stock of 40
BCN/BCX with WAG-5 and 58 BOXN with WAG-7 locomotive requires banking in –
BSL–KNW section between NPNR to DGN (19.33 Kms) due to rising gradient of 1 in 110.

• KNW - BSL section between KNW to DGN (23.21 Kms) due to rising gradient of 1
in 150.
• BSL – BD section between VNA to BDWD (18.27 Kms) due to rising gradient of 1
in 132.
• BSL - IGP section between NGN – SUM (36 Kms) due to rising gradient of 1 in 150
provided train shall run through at KJ, VGL, CSN, HPR, NI and PKE stations. Otherwise,
banking is required to be done right from KJ to SUM ( 97 Kms).
• IGP – BSL section between IGP to AV ( 24.96 Kms) due to rising gradient of 1 in
110.
• Loaded stock of 40 BCN/BCX with single WDM-2 and 58 BOXN with Multiple
WDM-2 locomotive requires banking in MMR – ANK section between MMR to ANK
(13.11 Kms) due to rising gradient of 1 in 100.

 Operationally Bhusawal division is divided into three main sections viz.

Igatpuri-Bhusawal, Bhusawal-Khandwa and Bhusawal-Badnera. All the trains are
worked with AC/Diesel traction.
