POWER PLANT

Introduction with experince

There are two branches, Central Workshop Aniyakanda and Power Plant Branch Kolonnawa.

Maintenance of motor windings is done by Central Workshop and maintenance of generators is

done by Power Plant branch. Supply generators for different tasks here also. We got brief

knowledge about generators, alternators, motor windings etc. all Installation, Repair, Maintenance,

Wiring, Recover from breakdown of generator sets are done in power plant branch kolonnawa.

In a situation such as water level of a reservoir becoming low, some generators in kolonnawa

power plant connected to the national grid to give some amount of power to the demand required.

Other things done by the Kolonnawa standby power station are maintaining generator, repair when

some thing happened to the generators works under Ceylon electricity board and supply generators

for some important government occasions and for day and night matchers like things that the

uninterrupted power is very important.

Generator

I saw very large capacity of generator. Some generator output power is 2000kw.during war

time, they used to give power for village. The generator is the device that converts mechanical

energy to electrical energy. Usually this is directly coupled to the prime mover. In general four

stroke engines are used as prime movers of diesel generators.

I get the basic knowledge about generator. Repairing generator is very hard work. When miss
very little think faulty happen.
The starter motor is used to turn the engine flywheel fast enough to get the engine running.
The starter motor has a solenoid. Normally starter motor run less than 15 second but starter
motor get 100A current

The turbine side of the turbochargers is fastened to the exhaust manifolds and the compressor
side of the turbocharger is connected to the after cooler.
