Fiscal 2012 budget, free parking top town council agenda

Leesburg Town Manager John Wells will present the preliminary fiscal 2012 town budget to
Mayor Kristen Umstattd at the town council’s Feb. 23 meeting.

Preliminary budget meetings have indicated that it could mean some layoffs for town
employees. Those layoffs will be highlighted in the presentation if they are included.

Leesburg’s annual operating budget contains general, airport, utility and capital improvements
funds. Wells will also present a proposed tax rate as part of the budget.

In the next few months, the town council will discuss and make adjustments to the budget
before it is approved in April.

In addition to the budget presentation, the council is scheduled to discuss the Town and VDOT
administrative agreement for the Sycolin Road Widening Phase III project, and to authorize the
town manager to execute it. There will also be a discussion on the expansion of the Utility Rate
Advisory Committee.

After Feb. 23, free parking in the garage in downtown Leesburg may end. At the meeting,
members will decide whether to keep the parking garage free, revert to the previous rate
schedule, or limit free parking to nights and weekends.
