Que2:-Relate hardware, software and firmware. Also specify why

they are not complete without each other?

An:-HARDWARE: - In the computer world, hardware refers to

the physical components that make up a computer system.
There are many, different kinds of hardware that can be
installed inside and connected to the outside of a computer
there are several pieces of hardware that can be found as
part of computer.

SOFTWARE: - Software is a general term used to describe a

collection of computer programs; procedures and documentation
perform some tasks on an operating system. In Simple words
software is the way to perform different tasks electronically.

FIRMWARE:-Firmware is the software that runs on the

hardware of the machine. The hardware, software, firmware are
not complete without each other. They are related with each
other as explain below:

Hardware needs software to tell it what to do.

for example:
Hardware = Feet
Software = Brain, telling feet to move.

Firmware makes a part run. Software is something that makes the

part do something else. Example: firmware makes the CD drive work,
but the software makes it burn.

Que: 3-How the field of education, science and business is affected

by the capabilities of a computer?

An:-In field of education:

• Computer enable student to research variety of subjects.

• Create project.

• Learning and sort information.

• Student use computer to view assignment and

communicate with teacher about assignment.
• Teachers use computers to access information, engage in video
conferencing, research various topics and create and update
lesson plans
• They use computers to keep electronic grade books

In field of business:-

• Reduces paper work

• By using computer, company owner can manage payroll,

inventory, accounts receivable, accounts payable, taxes, bills
and much more.

• Computer helps in storage of information, such as product

information, inventory, customer phone numbers, invoices or
anything data related.
• Programs can store thousands of files for decades.

In field of science:-

• Satellites can be controlled by computer.

• We can take any information regarding science from computer.
• Functions of robots can also be controlled by computer.

PART-B

Answer=1100110

Q 2:-Discuss the purpose of different types of keys

available on the keyboard. What is the principle
behind working of computer?

As:-There are 80-110 keys in a computer keyboard.

TYPES OF KEYS ON KEYBOARD: Types of

• Alphanumeric keys – all of the letters and numbers on

the keyboard.

A-Z and 0-9

• Punctuation keys – All of the keys such as the comma,

period, semicolon, brackets, and so on.

• Special keys – All of the other keys on the computer

keyboard such as the function keys, control keys, arrow
keys, caps lock key, delete key, etc.

USES OF THE KEYS ON THE KEYBOARD:

• Arrow Keys: - Use to move the cursor up, down, right, or
left.

• Backspace key: – Deletes the character just to the left

of the cursor.

• Caps Lock Key:–Make all alphabetic characters to be

uppercase.

• Delete Key: – Deletes the character at the current

cursor position, or the selected object.

• Enter Key: – Used to enter commands or to move the

cursor to the beginning of the next line.

• Esc Key: – This key is used to exit from programs and
tasks.
• Function Keys – Special keys labeled F1 to F12. These
keys have different meaning depending on which
program is running.

Working principle of computer:-

In reality a computer is an electronic calculating, storage

and display device that can only calculate answers or store
information using 1's and 0's (Ones and Zeroes) and no
other numbers!

Q 3:-Write down the relative merits and demerits of

different storage devices.

As:-Merits of storage devices:-

Hard Disk Drive

• Hard disk drives are the fastest device available for data storage.

• Hard disk drives are not costlier.

HARD DISK DRIVE

Solid State Drive

• Memory of this drive can be written, erased, rewritten many times.

• Consuming less power.

Optical Drive

• These drives are of portable form.

• Inexpensive drives.

OPTICAL DRIVE

Floppy disk:-

• Inexpensive.

FLOPPY DISK

CD-ROM/CD-R/CD-RW:-
Very large storage capacity
Inexpensive
some types can be reused (CD-RW and CD-R)

Zip Disk:-

• Large storage capacity

Disks are durable, robust and rewritable
Inexpensive

Demerits of storage drives:-

Hard Disk Drive

• Consumes a lot of power

• The size is large

• Resistance of shocks is low

• Heat can be generated

Solid State Drive

• Price of SSD is still high.

• The performance of the SSD will decrease during time and usage.

• The capacity available is not enough

• The writing speed of a SSD is slower

• Higher power.

Optical Drive

• They are susceptible to environmental and daily-use

damage

Floppy Disk
• Small storage space.

• Slow data transfer rate.

• After reformatting, tracks and sectors go bad.

CD-ROM/CD-R/CD-RW

• In CD-R The disadvantage is that you cannot copy or record data more
than once. You can only copy data once and only at one-time.

• CD -RW is more expensive and slower to write

• some disadvantages of a CD-ROM are that it is easy to

scratch the surface of the CD and it won't work properly
after that

Zip Disk

• Very limited storage capacity

Zip drives are expensive to buy and install ($100 to $150 to buy and
$30 to $150 to install).
