Ronald Drzewicki
Superintendent
Mason Public Schools
201 W. Ash Street Suite 2A
Mason, MI 48854

Dear Mr. Drzewicki,

Please accept my resignation as a special education teacher for Mason Public Schools. My last
day will be February 26, 2021.

My students and the relationships I have formed have brought joy to me each day. I have had
the opportunity to support students in their individual growth and cheer on their
accomplishments each step of the way. However, my values and integrity as a person do not
align with this district or the policies and practices currently in place. Denying students,
particularly students of color, within the EI classroom opportunities to learn about diversity,
equity, and current events is a shameful and unacceptable directive. I urge the district to
strongly analyze the core values in place and prioritize diversity and inclusivity at all levels. The
fact that members of administration in this district believe that diversity is political and a
controversial topic is discriminatory and completely heartbreaking.

I wish the district all the best in furthering the vital work of promoting and genuinely supporting
diversity and inclusion. As a parent and community member in this district, I will continue to
advocate for the leadership growth and change that is necessary for real progress to occur in
this district.

Respectfully,

Katelyne Thomas
