[031:008 Verily, those who believe in Islamic Monotheism and do righteous good deeds,
for them are Gardens of Delight Paradise.]

[031:009 To abide therein. It is a Promise of Allah in truth. And He is the All-Mighty,

the All-Wise.]

Today we are Inshallah going to discuss the 8th and 9th holy verse of surah Luqman. May
Allah give me strength to explain them. Inna (verily) allatheena (those who) amanoo
(believe) waAAamiloo (and do) alssalihati (righteous deeds), the people who embraced
Islam and did noble and virtuous deeds, and for them Allah set aside for the paradises full

of blessings. Khalideena (to abide forever) feeha (therein) and they would dwell in
paradise forever. waAAda (it is a promise) Allahi (of Allah) haqqan (in truth) – it is the
promise of Allah and it is the truth and rightfulness. It would certainly take place. There
could be, would be, and should no doubt in this regard. wahuwa (and He) alAAazeezu
(is the All-Mighty) alhakeemu (the All-Wise) – Allah is great, full of strengths, and all
the might what a human brain can think He is thousands and millions of times heavier
than that. He knows what is hidden in the highs and lows of the universe. This holy
verse is after the holy verse - Wamina alnnasi man yashtaree lahwa alhadeethi liyudilla
AAan sabeeli Allahi bighayri AAilmin wayattakhithaha huzuwan ola-ika lahum
AAathabun muheenun. This holy verse has already been discussed – and of mankind is
he who purchases idle talks music, signing to mislead mand from the path of Allah
without knowledge, and takes it the path of Allah, or the Verses of the Quran by way of
mockery. For such there will be a humiliation torment in the Hell-fire.
And there is no doubt that these people are Wa-itha tutla AAalayhi ayatuna walla
mustakbiran kaan lam yasmaAAha kaanna fee othunayhi waqran fabashshirhu
biAAathabin aleemin – And when Our Verses of the Quran are recited to such a one, he
turns away in pride, as if he heard them not – as if there were deafness in his ear. So
announce to him a painful torment.
This holy verse relates to the holy verse Inna allatheena amanoo waAAamiloo alssalihati.
lahwa alhadeethi are the talks which are idle and have no meanings of solidity. But
masoomin explained more in detail that what actually are these. We have been told that
these are ghinaa. Ghinaa means those talks, which are indecent, vulgar, and obscene.
And no mind of good taste and standards likes to read and hear them. In Urdu literature
Rekhti is also ghinaa. The purpose to present something in ghinaa form is to take the
mind of the people away and not to leave them with intelligent mind to think about the
holy Quran and Din-e-Islam. So any matter having neither head nor tail, indecent,
vulgar, and inappropriate is ghinaa. Be it a sound or voice uttered from the human vocal
cords, or produced from the strings, bows, keyboards, drums etc is all ghinaa. If ghinaa
is kept with continuous use in our life there creates immoral affairs. It also creates
erection to do some lascivious activities in the human heart. That’s why it all has been
declared haram. It is because we proceed to commit sins. Though there are also some
benefits in wine. But because the side effects and evil effects of wine is multiple that’s
why it has been declared haram (unlawful or prohibited in Islam). The people who are
civilized and intelligent they drink wine in their homes, because they know that after
having the alcoholic intoxication they would become out of sense. And the uncivilized
people they fall in sewerage gutters and drains after drinking cheap wine.
So the ghinaa of music makes a man away from the truthfulness and the virtuous
messages of the holy Quran. You must have noted that when we hear the music our feet
begin tapping on the beat of the music. We do have the music in ourselves. We become
rhythmic on the flow of music notes. And if somebody plays the tape recorder of the
holy Quran the holy Quran sits directly in heart and you have seen the children of minor
age are Hafiz-e-Quran. The impact of Quran also prevails and the impact of music also
does exist. Now it depends on you what to select for you and for your life. The impact
3

By

Hujjatul Islam Moulana Muntazir Mehdi Rizvi (Lecture 8- 2007)

of holy Quran would Quranic and the impact of music would be musical. So we should
take keen care of our children to mould and grow them with holy verses of the Quran.
And if there had been no impact of the holy verses of the holy Quran, Muhammad (Salla
'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) would not have been directed to recite the holy verse before the
disbelievers. It means there is a great impact of the recitations of the holy verses. So we
should train our children with the divine wisdom and recitations of the holy Quran. So
that he may think and act in accordance with the holy Quran.
Thus there are three disadvantages/drawbacks. The biggest drawback is the divergence
from Din-e-Islam. And to sidestep the Haq – truthfulness. The condition maintains in
them that when the verses are presented before they do avoid and in pride they keep aside
of them. Even the stout followers of Ahlul Bayt they also have involved in such kinds of
activities. In their homes there should be only the voice and sound of Quran not of
music. They perhaps think that Quran is for the past ages. No. Let me clear once again
that holy Quran is not the past. It is the present and future. That’s why it is the directive
from Allah that when you hear the recitation of the holy verse, be silent and attentive
what is being recited. It is farz on us to hear with full attention in order to understand the
divine wisdom.
And if you did not do your halal (lawful or permissible in Islam) job you did tark-e-
wajib. It means you did haram. Please be aware of the religious responsibilities on you,
lest you commit sins. The people who are doing these kinds of nefarious activities
actually they have no strength to face the Haq. Their tongues are tied. They are unable
to speak the Haq-e-Qurani. They are unable to hear. So when such people have become
stubborn and intractable then Allah sets for them torments in hell. And He asked
Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) to let them know their destiny. There are
fires of hell for them in jahanam.
So there is a clear message that if denied the facts of the Quranic verses, then for them
who do and did it, there are perpetual and torments fires and flames in hell for them.
There are two dimensions of verses, one is the holy verse in the holy Quran and other is
the sign of Allah told to the mankind through messengers. For the rebuttal of both verses
there are torments of punishment in hell for them. So it is the bounden responsibility of
us to accept and act upon the verses of the holy Quran, as our Allah wants. Otherwise we
would be out of the circle of Islam. And the people who are giving attention on the verse
of the holy Quran they are virtuous people and they deserve to be sent in Paradise in
accordance with the divine rules of designs. And there is huge promise of Allah for the
people who are not only reciting the holy verses but also understanding and practicing the
teachings of the holy Quran. As Ahlul Bayt did in their holy moments of holy life. We
do have the visible pattern of the holy family. So Allah would give them pleasantries and
sweet mellow fruits in hereafter life. Their next destinations would also be great and full
of other divine pay off that the human brain is unable to understand and calculate it.
Most of the people ask what is the dimension of heaven. The width between the earth
and sky is the one portion of the heaven. Rest of the size and dimension we can
understand by ourselves. Subhan Allah (all glory to Allah). It is the space between sky
and earth. Sky is the name of the limit of the human vision. So the more we go into the
4

By

Hujjatul Islam Moulana Muntazir Mehdi Rizvi (Lecture 8- 2007)

skies the more we get the horizons of visions. It means the space is limitless and the
heaven is also limitless in its dimension. And all that would be for the mouminin. But
what a paradoxical situation that the heaven is limitless in its space and the worth sending
to heaven are few. And also remember the size and dimension of the heaven is equal to
the size and dimension of jahanam. And they both are integral part of one another.
Some would proceed to heaven and others would proceed to jahanam in accordance with
the Law of Requital.
The moumin who is pious and devout would go to heaven. Heaven is the property of
such moumin. But what is the case of those moumineen who are moumin but are not
pious and devout? A verse of Ghalib comes in our mind:

Hum ko maloom hei jannat ki haqeeqat laiken

Dil key Bhelaney ko Ghalib yay khiyaal achhaa hei

We do understand the (ingenious) fact of paradise, nevertheless

In order to console the heart Ghalib this speculation is good.

This is the skeptical mentality of Ghalib. He is suspecting the entity of paradise. And
there are so many others, who really suspect the existence of paradise for the devout
people. There is nothing like that. It does exist and waiting for the devout pious people.
Paradise is Bilhaq. And it is the promise of Allah to give paradise to the moumineen.
The people who think like that it means they do not place their trust on Allah Subhana-
Wa-Ta’aala. Allah is Haq. Quran is Haq. Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam)
is Haq. Ahlul Bayt is Haq. Holy imams are Haq. Paradise is Haq. Hell is Haq. Haq of
Allah can never change or vary. This is the biggest possible Haq.
The mighty power of Allah Subhana-Wa-Ta’aala is hikmat and wisdom. The might
power of the wisdom of Allah is not prone to error. It is constant and forever. And the
one who ran from the battlefield being defeated is insane. And the one who stayed in the
battlefield and did not surrender is sane. He is hikmat walla. And the strength in heart
comes when there would be vigor of Iman in it. So the hearts swelled by the vigor of
Iman (faith in Allah and His universe governing laws) never surrender and never get
buried under tension. Don’t you see the life of Imam Ali (AS)? Subhan Allah (all glory
to Allah). Firmest faith in Allah becomes the base of the power vigor. So the paradise is
for the people mentioned above because they ever perform cherubic and purified
activities in this mortal world. Always remember:

“Faith in Allah with assurance can not take place in our hearts unless we lay the
foundation of love of the holy family – Ahlul Bayt”.

The love of Ahlul Bayt serves you from the vagitus of birth to the last breath of life. So
many people quoted this from Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam). For example
5

By

Hujjatul Islam Moulana Muntazir Mehdi Rizvi (Lecture 8- 2007)

Abdullah Ibn-e-Umar, the son of 2nd caliph, once quoted that Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu

'alayhi wa sallam) said “ he who loves Ali, Allah

mitigates the hardship of death on him”. We have seen that the love for Ahlul Bayt also
serves in life and also takes care of us in death. And even it would also serve us after
death. And as Allah shows His kindness to the prophets at the time of their death, in the
very same ways Allah does the kindness with the people who have love for Ahlul Bayt in
their hearts. The prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said about the commandment of

Allah “ I heard from Allah on the sky he who loved Ali

and if he died in his grave Allah made a piece

of paradise”. These are the trustworthy narrations found in all the schools of thought in
Muslims. And there is no doubt that the love of Ali would also serve you in hereafter
life.
The venerable Aban sult-e-Hirani who is the companion of Imam-e-Raza Islam, he states
that Imam-e-Raza Islam says that he heard form his forefathers and they heard from their

forefathers that Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) is addressing I

heard from Allah Ali is the basic cause of Mine on all the creatures of

the universe, and Ali is light for all mankind. And he is the guardian of
knowledge. Allah further says I would not take him to the hell who does not

recognizes Ali. be he is sinful. I would not enter

him in the fire.
Further Allah says that the person would not be entered into the paradise who did not
recognize Ali. Did you see the status of Ali? If there had been no Ali, there would have
been no concept of the spread of Islam. Dear readers these are the facts not
overstatements. If there is any doubt the pages of history are witnesses in this regard. Do
confirm and attest it by yourself too. In point of fact the love for Ali is by itself is a kind
of Iman. Paradise is for the people who have firm belief in Allah and all His laws. But
the mention of Ali is also of paramount importance. The person, who does not believe in
Ali, he is certainly out of the circle of Islam. There are no two opinions in this regard.
Now we come to our previous point that if a kafir went to the hell and there a moumin
also went to hell, then what would be the difference between kafir and moumin?
Common sense does not accept it. Also remember that there are only 14 masoomeen.
This is the divine design that not all mankind may become masoomeen.
Allah says don’t commit sin but also don’t be disappointed. One portion is the
commandment of Allah and other portion is the kindness of Allah. Subhan Allah (all
glory to Allah). So a person who loves Ali though he committed sins but would Inshallah
go to paradise, because he does affirm oneness of Allah and believes in other

commandments of Allah. So the wilayat is the source to send a moumin in paradise

though he committed sin against Allah. So the kafir does not believe in Ali. There is no
concept of paradise for the kafirs.
Also note he would not be entered in paradise who denies Ali
though he does not obey Me. Actually Allah made it very clear that the
condition to recognize Ali is the first step towards Islam. So how it is possible to ignore
Ali? There is no way. Such persons do not possess any right on paradise unless they
recognize Ali in true letter.
Ibn Abbass said to the prophet (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) to grant him something.

Then on it Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said “

“it is bound on you to love Ali”. Ibn Abbass said that he again requested Muhammad
(Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) in this regard. Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa

sallam) said “ be aware of the fact that it is bound on you to

love Ali”. When Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) was requested third time,
the answer came form him the same. Then after it Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa

sallam) began saying no good act is to be accepted by Allah

except the love of Ali. So without having love in heart for Ali,
neither Iman is acceptable to Allah nor our any act is acceptable to Allah. If you read the
pages of history there is mention of wilayat and love of Ali and Ahlul Bayt. That is the

part of Iman. Sixth imam was asked which one is the noblest act He

said “ My love and to adapt my wilayat”. It proved that pinnacle of ibadat can
not be achieved till you achieve the love for Ali and Ahlul Bayt.
Abu zer ghafari said that Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said
the man who loves Ali he is moumin. And the person
who has meanness in his heart he is kafir. So love of Ali – is the
guarantee that someone is moumin. The meanness for Ali in heart – is the proof that
someone is kafir. After it was also said that “ who left Ali who is he

he is hypocrite. Then said he who denied Ali he is mushriq.

So if someone denied Ali it is shirk. Because he never did shirk in his life. Al-Quran

says Allah can not forgive the sins of the

person who is mushriq. Such people would go to hell. It is mentioned in some narrations
that how it is possible that Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said
7

By

Hujjatul Islam Moulana Muntazir Mehdi Rizvi (Lecture 8- 2007)

“ Ai is the divider of janaat and jahanam”. Ahmad Ibn Hambal

wrote in his book that when someone asked him that could it be the hadith of Rasool?
Because there was a question that would Ali divide paradise instead of Allah? Imam
Hambal replied that what is the objection in it? He said Ali is dividing paradise in this
world. Then he asked to tell him that is there any doubt that hadith did not belong to
Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) – Ali your love is Iman.
and the enmity of Ali is the kufer”. They accepted that this is the

hadith. Then Imam replied ask holy Quran where is the place of moumin to

live? where is the place of kafir to live? Thus Imam Hambal gave a
decision by himself that the person who loves Ali would go to paradise. So we have to
earn hell and paradise in this world.
Hurr gave a message that he was strolling between jannat and jhannam. And he said that
he did not know where to go. He would go to and fro. His son said to him that he had a
big army and military and despite the fact he was frightened. He replied that was not
fear. Then he was asked that what was the cause of the restlessness. He clasped his son’s
hand and proceeded to the enclosure of Hussain. He said to his son if he heard
something. He told that he was hearing the voices of small children. On it Hurr asked
his son that was he not the cause of the thirst of those small children? Hussain is the
beloved of Fatima and Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam). He is the son of Ali.
His children were dying of thirst. The children of Fatima were dying of thirst. The
children of Rasool were dying of thirst. Hurr asked his son that the person who made the
children of Rasool die of thirst would he deserve to be sent into heaven or hell? He said
that he was unable to decide what to do by that time. He asked his son to tie his hands at
his back so that he could go to the enclosure of Imam Hussain. Because he told Hussain
is kind and is a son of the kindest. Hurr said that he would go to the enclosure of Hussain
and beg him to forgive for his sins.
Here is a lesson for us that the penance would not be accepted until one felt remorse and
compunction. Hurr felt that. And to demonstrate his remorse and compunction Hurr got
his hands tied at his back. Hurr knelt on the feet of Hussain. He forgave him. History
wrote that Imam kissed his face. Hussain gave us a great message that as he could
forgive Hurr, likewise he could also forgive others too. Other lesson is that tauba
(repentance) means to pick up the person from where he fell and forgive him.
In history there is one great personality by the name of Allama Kashwal writes that
Allama Hinri was an admirer of Ali, and when his last time came, enemies of Ali were
before him. He looked at Ali. A dark reflexion appeared on his face and after it all face
turned black. All enemies became very happy that perhaps it was the result of his some
kind of black act. Because he was an admirer of Ali. Then Hinri wiped his face. After it
his face began shine like light. Hinri spoke that they lie who think that
8

By

Hujjatul Islam Moulana Muntazir Mehdi Rizvi (Lecture 8- 2007)

Ali does not give relief to his admirer. Then testified that Allah forgave
all his sins. Then he said
to give glad tiding to others that from now on begin giving their love to Ali till they die.
And keep love for Ali in your heart. It would serve in life, death, and in hereafter life.
Dear readers these were the children of Hussain who were dying of thirst. To forgive the
sins is the status of Hussain. Oh people come in the court of Ahlul Bayt and beg them to
show you light of the holy Quran and also beg them to forgive your sins. The children of
Hussain were dying of thirst. That a stone-hearted cruel person would also beat his chest
on this kind of cruelty.
It is also mentioned that in a prison in Shaam, Sakina used to cry that small children
would come besides her. They also would cry that the thirst was killing them. Dear
readers just imagine that after 1400 years it is being mentioned before you, your eyes
become moist with tears. But what would have been the condition when those children
would cry due to the killing thirst. Perhaps no human can think in mental picture the
condition of those poor without water and dry parched lips. Syed Sajidin Aleah Saalaam
used to weep and wail till 40 years when food would be served to him to eat. Once his
servant asked him up to what would you weep? Once he became angry and he
said to the servant that he did not do justice. There were 12 sons of prophet Yaqub. One
son separated from him by the Hikmat of Allah. But prophet Yaqub knew that he was
alive. He wept so much that eyes and hair became white. And before me my beloved
relatives were ruined. Why shouldn’t he wept he said to his servant.
That little girl would cry for the water. That a passer by asked that why that little girl
would weep? He was told that they were kept devoid of any water. The water though
supplied to them after three days but it was not sufficient enough to serve them. His
mind changed.
Allama Syyed Dawood writes that Bibi Sakina was thirsty. A man by the name of
Abdullah who used to live in Shaam but he was a lover of Ahlul Bayt when he heard
these voices and returned his home. He said to his wife that she should have given the
food to the prisoners. Further he told his wife that the prisoners seemed Muslims because
they recited Kalima. When the night approached, the wife arranged food for them. They
came to the prisoners. Abdullah was ahead of his wife. When they reached the prison
they requested the sentry to open the door of the prison. He opened the door, and
Abdullah proceeded into it. But he asked his wife that there were women so she should
have gone therein. There was a woman surrounded by small children. She put the food
before them. As and when she put off the cloth from the food, the children came nearer
to food, but Bibi Sakina asked that what kind of that food was? Because they were Ahlul
Bayt, they do not eat zakat/sadaqa. She told that food was very good but it was not
known either were they Muslim or not. Bibi Sakina told that it was the misfortune of
them. Then the wife of Abdullah asked that if they were Muslim she must have known
about Nabi. Bibi Sakina said yes. She said that there was one daughter of nabi. Hassan
was given poison. Hussain was alive. Then the wife of Abdullah spoke that that food
9

Hujjatul Islam Moulana Muntazir Mehdi Rizvi (Lecture 8- 2007)

was for Hussain, because for him she offered Nazr-e-mannat. She also told that when
she fell ill her father took her to Muhammad (Salla 'Llahu 'alayhi wa sallam) and there
Hussain ran his hand on her head. Her disease cured. That’s why she told that she
offered Nazr-e-
Hussain. As and when she said that Zaineb raised her head. Then she said to her not to
offer the Nazr-e-Hussain, because he was murdered. Zaineb told that she was Zainab.
Zaineb also introduced to Sakina. After hearing that and meeting those personalities, she
came out of the prison and called her husband. She told her husband that about the
helpless people in prison. When he heard it he came in hurriedly. He prayed to Allah for
death. Because he was utterly unable to see that blood chilling scene.

May Allah fill our hearts with the love of Ahlul Bayt.
