Depiction  of  the  process  of  tea

making  as  an  Information  Graphic
Concept  1  (Ek  Pyaali  Chai)

This  graphic  was  made  to  depict  the  tea

making  process  and  provide  an
experience  of  having  a  fine  cup  of  tea
at  the  road  side  stall,  as  commonly
seen  in  India.

The  visuals  and  the  terminology  were

carefully  chosen  to  enhance  the  ‘Indian
feel’  for  the  process.

Concept  2

This  graphic  gives  more  stress  on

delivering  the  informa5on  graphically
on  the  tea  making  process.

It  explains  the  recipe  of  4  different

types  of  tea  in  4  quadrants  of  the  circle.

The  blue  color  is  water  content  and

white  is  milk.  Red  line  represents  heat.
The  solid  lines  are  mandatory  steps
where  in  the  do]ed  ones  are  op5onal.

Mobile  Research  Lab,  Gandhinagar.

This  research  project  is  an  effort  to
accommodate  the  requirements  of
the  diverse  scripts  practiced  for
writing,  in  India;  while  typing  on  a
portable  device  like  mobile  phone.  In
effect  the  solution  will  ease  the
phone  usage  for  wider  population
and  for  varied  purpose  rather  than
just  limiting  it  to  making  and
receiving  calls.
The  very  first  interac5on  with  the
device  starts  when  one  looks  at  it.
The  next  level  of  interac5on  is  when
one  touches  the  device,  where  the
physical  interface  of  the  device  plays  a
key  role.

The  project  proposes  some  new  ways

of  interac5on,  which  will  facilitate  an   कखगघ टठडढण पफबभम
easy
interac5on  for  inpuing  Indic  scripts  in   चछजझ तथदधन

Structure  of  the  scripts   User  research

Indic  languages  are  not  completely
linear  in  nature  like  English,  where
consonants  and  vowels  appear  one
aler  the  other.  In  case  of  Indic
scripts  one  has  to  break  the  progressive
wri5ng  flow  in  case  of  vowel.  A  vowel
sign  may  appear  to  the  lel  or  right,
above  or  below  of  the  base  consonant,
and  some5mes  surrounds  the  base
consonant  on  more  than  one  side.

Indic  script  input  for  mobile  phone  :  Concept  development

User  input  for  defining  various  interac5ons  for  a  touch

sensi5ve  device  concept.

The  phone  prototype  was  given  to  the  users  and  they  were
told  to  match  the  ac5ons  and  interac5on  gesture.  They  had
freedom  to  define  new  if  needed.

The  proposed  concept  is  about  mapping  modifiers  spa/ally  rather  that  providing
a  fixed  space  interac/on.
The  vowel  symbols  occupy  par5cular  space  in  a  par5cular  direc5on  around  the
base  le]er,  which  can  be  u5lized  for
the  input  interac5on.  The  core  concept  is  to  separate  vowel  and  consonant
interac5on  logically  as  well  as  spa5ally.

Graduated  in  Electronics  Engineering  from  Thadomal  Shahani  Engineering  College,  Mumbai  University  in  June  2004.
Ac5vely  involved  in  various  ac5vi5es  of  student  council  body  and  Na5onal  Service  Scheme  (Social  Service  Society).

Aler  my  gradua5on  I  joined  as  trainee  solware  engineer  at  Geodesic  Informa5on  Systems  Ltd.  and  worked  on  various  planorms  and
technologies.  While  working  on  User  Interface  development  I  started  taking  interest  in  the  usability  of  the  product  and  started  working  on
enhancing  the  user  experience.    NID  offered  me  the  formal  educa5onal  planorm  in  the  same  field.

During  3  semesters  of  classroom  training  at  NID  I  worked  on  various  classroom  and  industry  projects  which  introduced  me  to  various  fields
such  as  Data  Graphics,  User  research,  Ethnography,  Usability,  Prototyping,  Physical  compu5ng,  product  design  etc.  During  the  internship
project  we  got  an  opportunity  to  apply  what  we  learned  in  classroom.  It  gave  us  chance  to  experiment  and  learn.

I  wish  to  explore  more  on  the  tac5le  and  gestural  controls;  specially  on  the  physical  interfaces  and  controls.  Informa5on  design  has  become
my  hobby  aler  our  Informa5on  Design  Semester  at  NID.

As  a  person  I  am  nature  lover  and  nature  driven.  I  am  always  ready  to  learn  and  try  new  things.  I  posses  interests  in  photography  and  clay
