This incredible store was
established in 1888, and it’s
always finding new ways to
meet customers’ needs. The
pharmacy, which has made
sure you and your family could
get a prescription 24 hours a
day, seven days a week, has
expanded once again.
Now, they carry everything
for baby. Among the items
you’ll find in this new depart-
ment, on the second level,
will be high chairs, car seats,
baby carriers, clothes, and
strollers, which range in price
from “$24.99-$900,” says Tom
Sutherland, the manager.
The huge influx of families
with young children to the
Park Slope area has brought
about this recent change.
“We’ve expanded the one-
stop shopping experience,”
says Tom. Neergaard Baby
is right near the existing toy
store on the second level,
where there is an elevator
making it convenient for par-
ents to shop.
This fun-filled place is adja-
cent to games, puzzles, edu-
cational toys, arts and crafts,
ride-on vehicles, and stuffed
animals. Browse from the end-
less array, and when you make
your selections, Neergaard
Pharmacy will wrap your pur-
chases for you.
Of course, it’s not all fun and
games. You can still depend
upon the Neergaard staff to be
there for you and the count-
less borough residents who
have been awakened in the
middle of the night by a sick
child, says Tom. “When they
didn’t know where to turn, we
were here to support them.”
For decades, they were just
about the only pharmacy in

the borough opened 24 hours.
Now, Tom says, there are a few
that may be open 24 hours,
but they don’t all have a phar-
macist available during the
wee hours. “We are one of the
few who have a pharmacist
on duty at all times,” he notes.
And, when your doctor pre-
scribes something, odds are
Neergaard Pharmacy has it.
“We carry hard to find medi-
cations,” he says.
For Neergaard, it’s all about,
“the personalized service
we provide,” says Rosemarie
Tomassetti, whose family has
owned the business for the
last 22 years. Three genera-
tions of families have kept the
Neergaard traditions going,
including her family. “We pro-
vide the same quality service”
for which the pharmacy has
always been noted, she says.
As a result, they’ve not only
survived, they’ve doubled
their size.
It’s a feat that’s incredible
by any standards. When you
consider that in recent years,
some of the large chain phar-
macies have moved into the
neighborhood, it’s even more
impressive.
In fact, Neergaard
Pharmacy is the proud
recipient of an award of
accreditation status by the
Accreditation Commission
for Health Care, Inc. (ACHC).
Accreditation is a voluntary
process during which health-
care organizations submit
to peer review of their inter-
nal policies and patient care
delivery, comparing them to
national standards. By attain-
ing accreditation, Neergaard
Pharmacy has demonstrated
its commitment to maintain
a higher level of competency
and to strive for excellence
in its products, services, and
customer satisfaction, says
Tom.
The surgical showroom is
still located on the lower level.
It contains equipment such as
scooters, wheelchairs, walk-
ers, oxygen equipment, lift
chairs, hospital beds, bath-
room safety items such as
grab bars, stools, chairs, mats,
hand-held showers; and so
many other healthcare prod-
ucts people need. Customers
are permitted to try out a
number of them before mak-
ing a purchase, says Tom. For
some items, there is free deliv-
ery and set up in the home,
he adds.
You’ll also find neces-
sities such as therapeutic
shoes; canes; breast-feeding
accessories, including bras
and pumps; diabetes testing
equipment; support stock-
ings; and so much more.

department, and choose
from among the many skin
care and fragrance gift sets.
