1. TravelShop is a traditional ticketing agency in the high street which is facing


strong competition from growing numbers of web based companies selling travel
tickets and package holidays. TravelShop CEO [Chairman] decides to ask George
Consultancy (a new media consultancy company) to draft a plan for the company
to move from a traditional channel of commerce and distribution to a web based
channel. As one of the consultants in George Consultancy, you are asked to
produce a brief report clearly outlining the advantages and disadvantages of
moving to e-commerce for TravelShop (you are required to critically discuss at
least 3 advantages and 2 disadvantages).

2. “Exponent.com” is a major new financial company offering a variety of services


including insurance, loans etc to both businesses and the public. The company’s
management team has asked the xSecure, a well known Network Security firm, to
propose a comprehensive e-Security package to the company. The security
requirement of the company is as follows:
• Network security against outside intrusions
• Secure and safe e-transactions.
As a consultant with xSecure you are tasked with the job. You need to discuss and
justify your proposal on:
a) – Possible network security threats and how they can be overcome

b)- Three possible solutions for a secure e-commerce transaction that the
company can adopt (i.e. secure methods of selling goods and services on
the web)

3. School of Computing at the University of Greenwich wishes to develop an


Intranet site in order to computerise its internal processes. The School has set up a
technical team to start the development work on the Intranet. The development
team has been asked by the school’s management group to use a formal life cycle
model and write a brief report clearly explaining the design and development
phases. As the leader of the development team, you are expected to respond to
the requirement.

4. Spam is now a major problem for many companies and individuals using the
WWW. Some research shows that around 870 billion Spam messages were sent
in one year in the US alone (Guardian 2003). Legal measures to combat Spam
have had limited effect so far. Experts have discussed various measures that could
be used to combat Spam.

(a) Using examples, discuss 3 different techniques that could be used within a
company to combat Spam.

(b) Outline 5 guidelines that could be used to minimise Privacy issues.

5. EasyMobile is a new Web based Mobile phone company that sells a variety of
mobile products (handsets, contracts and services). The company employs a
marketing consultancy to advise them about developing a successful on-line and
off-line marketing promotion before the official launch of EasyMobile.
