Introduction
Palm ’n Go is a touch-less palm-based biometrics system which is integrated with both software and hardware device. This project is
motivated by the public’s demand for non-invasive and hygienic biometric technology. For various reasons, users are concerned
about touching the biometric sensors. This problem is particularly exacerbated at the height of the A H1N1 pandemic. Therefore, we
develop an integrated stand alone palm-based capturing system that can be mounted on the wall for access control purpose. The
user does not need to touch any device. The user just positions his/her hand naturally in front of the sensor and the system will
automatically unlock the door for him/her (provided that the person is a genuine user or registered user). The system can perform
both verification (1-to-1 matching) and identification (1-to-many matching). Verification, in average, can be performed in less than
1 second. The system has been tested with 110 users palm data and the accuracy rate is 98.9%.
