AENOR Task

AENOR is a private, independent, non-profit making

Spanish Body, recognised at national, European
and International levels. Through the development
of Standardisation and Certification (S+C) activities,
it contributes to the improvement of quality in
enterprises, their products and services, as well as
to the
protection of the environment and thus to the well-
being of the society.

Quantifying GHG Emissions and communicating
On Environmental Impacts

ISO/TC 207 was established in 1993, as a result of

ISO’s commitment to respond to the complex challenge
of “sustainable development” articulated at the 1992
United Nations Conference on Environment and
Development in Rio de Janeiro
Quantifying GHG Emissions and communicating
On Environmental Impacts

Before the constitution of the WG#5 and WG#6 of

ISO/TC 207, ISO conducted various studies to
determine the desirability of standardization in the field
of climate change.

After the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, was

formed the WG#5 which is the first Working Group in
ISO done standards on Climate Change.

The ISO Business Plan Task Force (chair by José Luis

TEJERA, AENOR) in its meeting in Berlin in 2007, laid
the groundwork for the constitution of the SC#7 of
ISO/TC 207 (Greenhouse gas management and related
activities.
Standards elaborated by ISO/TC 207 SC#7

- ISO 14064-1:2006 specifies principles and

requirements at the organization level for quantification
and reporting of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and
removals. It includes requirements for the design,
development, management, reporting and verification
of an organization’s GHG inventory
Standards elaborated by ISO/TC 207 SC#7

- ISO 14064-2:2006 specifies principles and

requirements and provides guidance at the project lever
for quantification, monitoring and reporting of activities
intended to cause greenhouse gas (GHG) emission
reductions or removal enhancements. It includes
requirements for planning a GHG project, identifying
and selecting GHG sources, sinks and reservoirs
relevant to the project and baseline scenario,
monitoring, quantifying, documenting and reporting
GHG project performance and managing data quality
Standards elaborated by ISO/TC 207 SC#7

- ISO 14064-3:2006 specifies principles and

requirements and provides guidance for those
conducting or managing the validation and/or
verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) assertions. It can
be applied to organizational or GHG project
quantification, including GHG quantification, monitoring
and reporting carried our in accordance with ISO
14064-1 or ISO 14064-2.
Species requirements for selecting GHG
validators/verifiers, establishing the level of assurance,
objectives, criteria and scope, determining the
validation/verification approach, assessing GHG data,
information, information systems and controls,
evaluating GHG assertions and preparing
Standards elaborated by ISO/TC 207 SC#7

- ISO 14065:2007 specifies principles and requirements

for bodies that undertake validation or verification of
greenhouse gas (GHG) assertions.

It is GHG programme neutral. If a GHG programme is

applicable, the requirements of that GHG programme
are additional to the requirements of ISO 14065:2007

AENOR mirror committee on climate change

AEN/CTN 216 “Renewable Energies, Climate

Change and Energy Efficiency”

This Technical Committee of Standardization shall

address the topics of organization and definition of:

- Tools for the promotion of electricity through

renewable energy.

- Tools to preserve emission of greenhouse gases.

AENOR mirror committee on climate change

Working Groups of AEN/CTN 216 “Renewable

Energies, Climate Change and Energy Efficiency”

WG# 1: Renewable Energies

WG#2: Climate Change
- Participate in the WG#5, WG#6 and SC#7 of
ISO/TC 207
- Develop the necessary standards for the
measurement and certification of emissions of
greenhouse gases.
WG#3: Energy Management System
AENOR performance in climate change Area

Standardization

AENOR actively participates in the committees and

subcommittees of ISO/TC 207 which AENOR belong to,
specially those WG and SC concerning to climate
change:

- ISO/TC 207 WG#5 that has elaborated the ISO 14064

parts 1, 2 and 3
- ISO/TC 207 WG#6 that is elaborating the ISO 14065
parts 1, 2 and 3.
- ISO/TC 207 WG#7 that is elaborating the ISO 14066
and ISO 14067
Communicating on environmental impacts

Good practice in environmental claims and

communication

- ISO 14020:2000, Environmental labels and

declarations – General principles.

-ISO 14063:2006, Environmental management –

Environmental communication – Guidelines and
examples

voluntaries schemes

Voluntary Schemes:

-ISO 14064 is consistent and compatible with the GHG

Protocol, published by the World Resources institute (WRI)
and the World Business Council for Sustainable
Development (WBCSD). ISO, the WRI and the WBCSD
have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work
together to promote their GHG accounting and reporting
standards.

-The Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS), developed by the

Climate Group (TCG), the International Emissions Trading
Association (IETA) and the WBCSD specifically integrates
the principles of ISO 14064 and uses the validation and
